Upon introduction, the SL500 is equipped with a standard 5.0-liter, V8, 302-horsepower engine that achieves 16-mpg in the city and 23-mpg on the highway. The SL600 is equipped with a standard 6.0-liter, V12, 389-horsepower engine that achieves 13-mpg in the city and 19-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard on both trims.
