I bought my 2002 4Runner Sport Edition in August of 2007, because I needed a vehicle to tow my new boat. I selected the 4Runner because I have always wanted one and Toyota makes the most reliable cars period. In comparison to Domestic SUV's in the same class you are going to pay a premium, but I felt it was well worth the Toyota name; that is why the value is a 4 vs a 5. Performance I gave a 3 because although the 4 Wheel drive system is second to none and comes with a rear diff. locker; I wish the v6 engine had a little more power for towing. My boat is around 2,500 lbs; which is not large and there is noticable lack of power in the hills. For all other applications the V6 is fine, but if you intend to tow a lot with this vehicle keep this in mind. I have put 30,000 miles it since I purchased the vehicle and I have not had a single mechanical problem. "knock on wood" Overall the rating is a 4, but only because of the outdated interior in comparison to other 2002 SUVs and the lack of towing capability.
