We bought a 2002 LT three years ago and it is the best car we've ever owned. We've owned several SUV's before this, including a Jeep Cherokee and a Ford but this truck has been both comfortable and reliable. Its great for my carpool of kids, snow skiing trips, and taking friends out to dinner. We can fit 2 other couples comfortably. The drawback for me is backing out of a parking space -- the blind spot directly behind my car - since it is so high....read morehide

Bought a new Suburban LT in April 2003. Came out of the dealer in perfect condition and have had no problems with it since then. Rides nice and comfortable, the captain's chairs are great, dual automatic A/C works well in Arizona and the cargo room is outstanding - much better than the smaller "pretend" SUVs. Fuel mileage is O.K. for a large heavy vehicle - probably a bit better than average. We're getting 17 mpg in town and, just crusing on a level interstate, we get between 23 and 25 mpg on the highway. Hilly roads make that less of course. Not bad considering the space and level of comfort we get. The only things I would improve are the fog lights - can't tell if they're on or off - and some easier way to stow/remove the 3rd seat when not in use. Other things we enjoy: the 9-speaker (with subwoofer) Bose sound system, heated seats, the large windows and On-Star. Would buy another one in a heartbeat....read morehide

Nice to have an outlet for power in the rear cargo area, but need one for the third row seating. Information center is very handy. Steering whell controls and dashboard controls are quite within reach. Various of models and options are abailable for everyone.

My 2001 suburban had a total internal engine failure. It used a quart of oil every 100 miles. All the pistons had to be changed. GM did not help because the vehicle had 53,000 miles. These were all road miles, and I changed the engine oil every 3000 miles. There was a design problem with the enjines in 2001, but who cares. If you want a good dependible vechicle BUY ONE FROM JAPAN....read morehide

I just bought a 04 Sub 4x4 LT loaded. Traded a faithful 01 Durango with no problems. Got off the Interstate and the transmission started slipping. Now it won't shift into 3rd gear. Had to drive in second gear at 35 miles an hour to a dealer. Bought Sat. tranny choked out on Thursday with only 394 miles on the truck. $46,500 trunk and it won't allow my family and myself got to Grandmas for Christmas. Not a very happy new Sub. owner.
HINT: When you buy a new vehical make the dealer check all the fluids. The transmission has no leaks but it seems that someone forgot the fill the transmission with enough fluid......
Take this one GM to the bank!!!...read morehide

Light came on often stating that transfer case was in neut.,engine light came on often, dealership couldn't find problem, muffler makes pinging noise,GM aware of problem and is to notify me when they figure out how to fix it,have owned GM products since 1959,will never own another, they just don't get it. Canceled my extended warranty, it is worthless. I purchased a new gas cap and installed it myself and the engine light hasen't came on again. Dealership said they couldn't find anything wrong wiyh the cap. Sub. spent almost a month total at the dealership....read morehide

We just took a 1994 Suburban with 120,000 plus miles on the odometer a 2,000 mile Baja Trip. I used to hate these SUV's, and that is probably because the Suburban is not an SUV in the yuppie sense, it's a spacious truck with off road capability. We packed it with two spare tires, gas and water cans, repair kits, tools, coolers, luggage, etc. Plenty of room. We literally spent days in the vehicle and it was comfortable. Drove well on freeways, backroads, dirt tracks and sand, though it rattled on the latter two. Gas mileage was ok, consdering where we went, and it burned only one quart of oil. My only real complaint is the loose steering, but then the vehicle was ten years old and that was its tenth or so Baja trip. I actually might buy one....read morehide

Why do folks get on here and write a review for a Suburban that they had way back in '97? This is a forum for reviews for the 2004 models not the '97's. You drag the rating of the vehicle down with you irrelevant comments. I love my 2004 suburban. The transmission or the engine has never had a problem. I have an LT Top of the line. This is the third Chevrolet that I have had. I have never had a problem that the folks have talked about on this forum. And to the fellow with the alarm issue. The suburban comes with an alarm. The dealer puts an extra on with a cut off switch. The suburban has one on it. It comes with one on the keys....read morehide
