WE REALLY LOVE THIS VEHICLE, AND THIS IS BASED ON 5 YEARS OF OWNER SHIP AND 37000 MILES OF CAREFREE DRIVING. I PURCHASED A SILVERADO IN 2007 AND MY WIFE WANTED MY 04 AVAL FOR HERSELF. SHE LOVES THE BODY ARMOR, COMFORT AND STYLE OF THE VEHICLE. THE ONLY MAINTENANCE IT HAS REQUIRED IN THE PAST 5 YEARS IS OIL, FILTERS AND TIRE ROTATION. HOPE I WILL BE ABLE TO SAY THE SAME ABOUT MY 07 SILVERADO IN 5 YEARS. YES, FUEL MILAGE COULD BE A LITTLE BETTER, AVG 14 MPG CITY BUT YOU CANT HAVE EVERYTHING. I PULLED A 8000 LB TOY HAULER WITH OUT ANY PROBLEM, BUT I WAS PUSHING THE TOWING LIMITS OF THE VEHICLE. I WOULD HAVE PURCHASED A ANOTHER AVAL IN 07, BUT I COULD NOT GET A 07 2500 AVAL WITH BODY ARMOR, YES I LOVE THE BODY ARMOR TOO, SO I ENDED UP WITH 07 SILVERADO VORTEX MAX TO PULL THE TOY HAULER. THE 04 AVAL WAS MY FIRST CHEV IN 45 YEARS OF DRIVING, I THING I MADE THE RIGHT DECISION WHEN I SWITCHED......read morehide

I bought my 2004 2500 Avalanche from the dealer. It was a demonstrator and had 5600 miles. Didnot realize it had the 8.1 liter engine. Dumb on my part. It is a powerful motor but around town expect 12 mpg, if you are careful with your foot. Not sure what the highway mileage is as of yet. Scarey. Large fuel tank, 37 gallons. Expect $50+ fill-ups.
Nice and roomy. I have every option other than the navigation system, sweet. XM radio and On-star, CD, leather, power everything and extendable exterior mirrors and all excellent.
I would give this vehicle a positive evaluation....read morehide

This is my second Avalanche I first had a z66 loved it but later wanted the Z71 4x4, There must be a reson why this truck/SUV made me want to buy another one. I compared the Silvarado but it drove to much like a truck and did not have all the bells and whisles that i was looking for. The Avalanche was more all in all a better truck that drove like a Corvette....read morehide

Great ride on and off road. Tows 6500 lbs like my old truck towed 3500lbs. Smooth and quick. Great job General Motors. Only down side 12 mpg with the 4x4.

I just took my 04 Chevy Avalanche on a 5400 mile road trip from the midwest to the Rocky's and Sierra Nevada Mountains. The truck was very comfortable on the long rides. This truck has a range of almost 600 miles between fill-up's. There was more then enough power from the engine to climb steep mountain grades. With cruse control I got about 22 miles to the gallon on the interstate. The "cool" factor is very high for this vehicle when you take the cover's off of the bed and lower the midgate. Even with the windows down, there is very little wind. Fill-up's can be a little painfull, but that's the fault of the oil company's not chevy. But hey, if you can afford $43,000 for this truck. you can afford $60 for a tank of gas...
I have no regrets about buying this truck....read morehide

I had a 2002 Avalanche and traded it in for a 2003 model with more features. Both the 2002 and 2003 are the Z66 models that ride like a luxury car. This truck/SUV is so versatile it can fit the needs of many different types of people. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend an Avalanche to anyone.

I have 14,000 miles on mine and love it. I have hauled 5 sheets of plywood with the seat down and fliped it up and picked up my two kids from baseball the same day. It changes for your needs. Handling and cornering are remarkable for a truck and very quiet inside. Only draw back is gas mileage, but hey your driving a fullsize truck....read morehide

In Michigan, where a man's worth is measured by the truck he drives, this is one of the "must drive" truck's. Forget them toy-ota's, and datsun's. Get the a Chevy, the "big boy" truck. Get this truck, and you will blind the poor sap you are tailgating with those big bright headlight's. Get this truck cause chick's dig it! Guy's wish they had one. "I'm changing the ecology..!" Get this truck, and you can look down on them poor chump's driving them subaru's with the mountain bike rack that's bigger then the subaru. I got a mountain bike. I got a nice one. it dont have to ride pirched on the roof. Heck there is enough room for it to ride inside.
Seriously, this truck rides as smooth as a Caddilac. Can accelerate to 70 quickly, and get you onto traffic. Once you learn how to use the midgate, you can convert the truck in about a minute.
If you live in snow country like I do, then you know. Nothing handle's better in the snow then a General Motors automobile. The rear seat has more leg room then any other car or truck I have driven in. The only downside is the cost of gas. But if you can afford this truck (mine was $44,000.00), then $2.00/ gallon gas is nothing to you. Another downside is the market price. You can "build" and price a loaded Chevrolet Avalanche on the Chevy website, for about $38,000. But when you try to find one. You will find that there all going for the mid 40's. If you cant get into a Avalanche try a Silverado. You can get a fully loaded one for about 37... If you cant afford that, keep your isuzu... It may be a piece of junk but at least it's paid for....read morehide
