In December 2003 I purchased a 04 Escape XLT and regret it. Approximately three weeks after purchasing the vehicle I began having problems starting it up. The car has power but the engine does not kick over and start up. I experienced the exact same problem with my old 1999 Chevy Cavalier. The ironic part was after several unsuccessful attempts to repair the problem I traded it in for the Escape. One month after doing so, I received a recall notice on the Chevy for ignition circuit thermal events. What that means is, if your vehicle does not start up, do not continue to try to start it. Continually turning the key in the ignition will cause the ignition wiring to overheat causing a fire in the steering column. I took the Escape to a Ford Service Department and was told that they did not find anything wrong and could not duplicate the problem therefore there was nothing they could do. I am verrrry disappointed in the vehicle and with Ford's service. What do I have to do, wait four years till Ford decides to recall the problem or until the vehicle bursts into flames?
