Overall this is a great car. Except for the high insurance on it it is the best car i ever had. this is the first Honda in the family and i am now a Honda customer for life. i only wish that their was a button to turn the engine off instead of hoping that it will shut off at a stop light. On the highway i used a entire tank of gas and got about 700 miles on it with a 62 mpg average. BUT that was when i was in the car myself and no other additional weight. On the way back from that trip i had an additional person and alot of cargo and i only got 35 mpg and had to fill up twice!!!!...read morehide

Over 30,000 miles on my HCH since buying new in April. My mileage has been steady ~48mpg, until it really got cold out. It's below 20F out now, and I'm getting 45mpg. I commute 200 miles a day, so I reap the benefits of HALF my monthly gasoline bill! I figure I'll recoup the extra $3500 for the Hybrid Civic by next Summer.
Decent little car. I've driven cross country with my 2 teen kids with no complaints. So far, no problems(it's a Honda, afterall). I easily keep up with traffic @75mph, and it has good passing ability, which I was initially worried about.
Yes, the oil is expensive @$5 a quart(Mobil 1 0W-20), and I change my oil and filter every month(~5000 miles)....read morehide

I have had my civic hybrid M/T for about a year, and have gotten a high of 46 MPG (55MPH in the summer when the car was new) and low of 39 MPG (70MPH in the winter with studded snow tires), higher cruising speed = less milage, using cruise control helps.
-It is known that Hybrid's get less milage in cold weather (or warm up), this is normal.
-Variables to milage may be, driving up hills (I drive one every day), speed (this does make a difference)letting the car warm up in the driveway (see previous), stop and go traffic and leaving the AC or defrost on so the Auto Stop is disabled.
-The Honda is a Good solid car and does get great real world milage worth $20,000....read morehide

Yes, I love my new hybrid Civic. Reset mileage on Trip meter each trip and mileage is quite variable depending on where I'm driving (hills, freeway, city, etc). Using cruise control and ECON really helps. 04 model built in June 04 just purchased. Overall average about 38 MPG, but have gotten up to 55-61....read morehide

I purchased my Honda Civic Hybrid on Aug. 28th. Averaging over 43mpg for over 1500 miles. Interior and exterior is perfect. I will keep this hybrid and add the Honda CRV when available.
Thank you Honda. Customer since 1976.

Bought new Civic Hybrid, manual transmission, in late June (6 weeks ago). Having read some consumer reviews, such as here, I expected mileage to be somewhat less than advertised. Also, because in California they only sell the PZEV models. I still wanted this car though, because I liked its looks, features, etc.
Turns out I get mileage every bit as good as advertised -- First tank was 45.5 -- Now I get more like 47.5 -- And for the one long trip I took on flat highway I got about 51.5.
So I am thoroughly delighted with this car. Quiet, smooth, comfortable, plenty of power (just down-shift when necessary) great styling and extras, such as automatic climate control.

will buy a hybrid ONLY when they make a mid-sized wagon or minivan!
all of these small cars just don't hold enough room for my big family!
looking forward to roomier hybrids

There are certain techniques to driving a hybrid.. If you're getting bad milage, you're probably inconsistant when driving on a flat road. To get the best MPG, keep the petal at the same level. Continually accelerating and letting off the gas is the major cause for 'extremely lower than sticker MPG' complaints....read morehide

I really love my 2004 Civic Hybrid (auto transmission). I have been getting an average of 51 mpg; almost 53 on the last 250 mile trip. This is better than even the highest mpg advertised on the sticker! It's got enough pep, too. I highly recommend this car.
