I own a 03 jeep liberty and I though my suv was a true chrysler product (thats a bad thing) until i was ready to trade it in for an xterra. the test drive of an 04 xterra was pretty horrible. no power when i step on the gas, the car couldnt get out of its own way. whenever i hit a blemish in the road on the highway, the whole backend would shimmy. this test drive made me appreciate my liberty.. jeep junk or not, my jeep has lots of power and handels great, the styling is a whole lot fresher than the box xterra and i do not want to trade it in anymore. test drive both vehicles and get back to me if i am wrong....read morehide

I drive about 50,000 miles a year and this vehicle is pretty comfortable, has plenty of power and looks great! I would recommend an Xterra to anyone interested in a mid-size SUV. The only down fall to this vehicle is the gas mileage. Nissan could work on making it a bit more economical, but don't let that keep you away from driving a fun vehicle. I would definitely purchase another one....read morehide

I love this car!! I have a 2003 4x4 XE V6 and it is the best car I have ever had. It has power, comfort, and reliablity. I wouldn't trade it for any other car out there.

I am slowly getting used to this car. First off, the bad: The 3.3 liter engine just doesn't give you much to work with. As much gas as this thing uses I expect better power, yeah I know its a truck but if you're gonna put a 20mpg rating on it, at least get it close! The stereo is pretty much junk but Nissan will help if you ask nicely. I would like to see more lighting on the controls (windows, locks, CC) . And for the good...I had a 2003 s-10 z-r2 which I traded in for this Xterra. I frequently took the s-10 off-road, and I will guarantee this SUV will keep up with that truck, and probably beat it, anyday. The Xterra has always been marketed to my age group cause were all crazy. This vehicle looks great and fits my tastes pretty well. Like I said if this had a better stereo and either more power or better gas mileage, this would be a perfect fit for anybody who likes the outdoors but likes a nice lookin car....read morehide

I've had Ford, Chevy, Mitsubishi & Toyota SUV's. I decided on the Xterra because I really like the way it looks. It handles great in bad weather, has wonderful visibility (that's what those side mirrors are for) and turns on a dime. I read the other reviews and i'm not sure what the shaking or gas complaints are. Mine doesn't shake and picks up and goes on the freeway. As for gas mileage? Good lord it's a truck, if you're looking for gas mileage perhaps you should try the Honda CRV? Why complain about a V-6 engine, what do you expect? I do recommed the SE fully loaded, if you're going to pay up, why not get everything? And if you run around pricing they all cost about the same anyway....I already did that research for you ;-).
Mine handles really well on and off-road, in every situation i've put it in. I think most of the complainers don't really want a "truck" but a luxury SUV, well hey BMW has one so does Mercedes, get your soccer mom one of those. The Xterra is on a TRUCK frame...hmmm those who try cars without seeing how their vehicle is made..tsk tsk..and no I don't work for Nissan.
I recommend one all the way!!...read morehide

I liked Xterra's look so I decided to have a test drive. Everything went down the hill then on. This SUV is shaking around 60 miles per hour. The delaer let me drive three of them and they all were shaking. He did not believe me so he came with us for a test drive. Than he also said this needs allignment. The SUV has 9 miles on it, what alligment are you talking about? Than he says that this is Ok. WHAT? I am NOT sure how people can drive this SUV. The SUV looks good but rides worst than my 97 Altima. Those people who summitted their reviews might be working for Nissan. TEST DRIVE IT AND THAN YOU WILL BELIEVE ME. This SUV is real bad. Be careful!...read morehide

Overall, I like the truck, but I am looking to replace it soon for two reasons...one, even with the V6, it's a hazard when trying to keep pace with traffic on the freeways. A step on the gas pedal makes a lot of noise, but not a lot of acceleration. And this is the V6! Those with the I4 should have their own traffic lane. If you live in a small town, or never use the freeway, then the V6 will be fine. Second, because you have to flog the engine to get any sort of acceleration, fuel economy is horrible. I only avg. 15 mpg, and that's with mostly freeway cruising. Around town, it's worse, and I only use enough gas pedal to keep from getting run over by little old ladies in 66 caprices. On the plus side, the truck looks great, is solidly built, and has not provided a problem in the 2+ years I have had it. But with all the newer trucks, including the new Xterra, coming out with power packages that deliver respectable performance for the fuel economy, my 02 Xterra will be finding a home on a dealer lot soon....read morehide

I bought a new 03 XE-A little over a year ago. I have taken it in 5x with superficial problems-Auto Doors had to be replaced-gas cap cracked-etc.Cheesy interior. If I want to hear music have to keep windows up-very loud when windows down. Terrible stereo- No ashtray-no mirrors on visors. Not enough kick when going up hills. Very poor gas ecomomy. But for the price I guess it's alright -it is on the lower end of price compared to other SUV's -And it is fun to drive and does catch attention....read morehide
