This 04 Camry has a very bad gear shift from stop to the 2nd, but the dealer refused to correct it and Toyota also keep quiet on this issue.

When driving my Camry SE V6 with 5 speed automatic transmition at speeds over 40 MPH then reducing speed due to traffic or to turn there is a marked delay in throttle and transmission response on re-acceleration, dangerously slow when changing lanes on the freeway. When the engine and transmission finally due kick in, the tachometer jumps to redline and the car rockets forward!
After returning the car tothe dealer for inspection they informed me that the throttle and transmission are electronically controlled via an onboard computer and that there are no fixes or adjustments that can be made to remedy this problem. They suggest dropping the gear shift lever to 2nd to get faster response. The service manager also informed me that they had other upset customers with the same complaint.
As long as I own this car I will have to adjust the way I drive to make up for what can only be called a deficiency in the design. This is the first Toyota I have ever purchased. I now own an incredibly quiet, comfortable car with a powerful engine dragging a ball and chain behind. If there is not a quick resolution to this problem this Camry will also be the last Toyota I will ever purchase....read morehide

I have been terribly disappointed. Have retruned it three times to dealer for problems with radio (third one and counting!), a bad strut, and rattles and noises from everywhere that they cannot/will not fix. I want to return it and get my money back.

My wife and I purchased a new 2004 toyota camry LE 4cyl. we traded in a 2001 volvo s40 both cars were good on gas, the volvo is much smaller .this is the first time purchasing a japanese car and i must say i am very impressed overall, i admit it doesnt have the pep of the volvo, but, i feel it was a fair trade off for everthing else. the toyota dealer i went to was very fair with my trade in ,and on the price. i passed up the volvo s60 for it so that should tell you something. i also test rode the 2004 accord, no comparison at all to the toyota....read morehide

Thank God someone understands the need for a full sized spare. I would like to think that GM, Ford, Chrysler are trying to improve the reliability factor in their cars but it isn't happening unfortunately.

Toyota has been making great cars for many years. I love Toyota cars. Camry is another success story. I have owned a Honda Accord before but Camry makes me feel that I can relax and enjoy my ride. Great airconditioning too.

Fit and finish, comfort, ride, power the 2005 Camry XLE V6 has it all-for half the price of (so called) top of the line lux, cars. If you cannot afford a BMW, Lexus, of an MB. 2005 Camry XLE has it all. A very good famly car, with a excellent reputation to back it up.

I wanted to get the SE V6 so I wouldn't be driving a :grocery getter", but my wife wouldn't let me. However I am pleased with the regular V6 Camry anyway. The '04 Camry is a secure handler at speeds of 60 mph and higher, it feels like it is connected to the road. Response from the V6 is average, as is to be expected for what is essentially family transportation, yet the V6 is strong and effortless at highway speeds. Wind noise is nonexistent, even at 80 mph. The trunk is spacious and seating is generous. The seats are supportive and the dash if free of clutter and excessive bells and whistles. All in all a worthy buy and something I will keep for at least 7 years....read morehide
