Just purchased my '05 silverado and only have about 800 miles on it. This truck is great. It's a '05 silverado 1500 extended cab sportside Z71. This truck has just about every option except the sunroof. The ride is absolutely incredible for a 4 wheel drive truck. It rides better than my '97 Z28. Extremely comfortable. Gets good gas mileage for a full size pickup (310hp 5.3 with 3.42 rear) and has plenty of power. Brakes work great but I just wonder why a $40 thousand truck doesn't have 4 wheel disc brakes. The bridgestone tires collect rocks like crazy in the tread.
I could not be happier with this truck. Great looks, great performance, and a great price (GM red tag sale)...read morehide

I am a die-hard Silverado owner. For me nothing else will do. The appearance of this truck can not be beat. Like a Rock. Nothing ever gets to me.

This truck is so uncomfortable its not even funny. Not someting you wana ride in for a long time or use as a family vechicle. ITS ONLY A WORK TRUCK.
Other than that its a great work truck.

Been driving Chevrolet for 25 years, I have never had Front brake's sqeak and rotors be grooved out at 7600 miles. Dealer says that this is common on '05 trucks. Nothing that they can do about it.

Overall it's a good truck. It has good acceleration but sometimes it's a little too much. It sits pretty high off the ground, so it's handling is kind of bad. It's very roomy and the Bose sound system is great! It looks awesome too.

I don't think there is a more loyal Chevy person out there than I am, however; I am not a gear head and took the dealership's word.
I took advantage of all the great incentives that have been offered lately and replaced my 03 with a new 05 crew. Now the problem, I was told by the salesman, also part owner, that the 3.73 gears were dropped and the only options available were 3.42 or 4.10. I was told not to worry, Chevy increased the horse-power by 10 horse and it will pull the same as my 03...Can you smell whats coming up?
Exactly!!! I pulled my camper, which weighs 5600lbs and thought I was going to blow my engine. Halfway through a 45 mile trip my check engine light came on. I returned it to the dealership and told them of the problem. Now guess what???
Nope...I was told Chevy re-introduced 3.73 gears, in the 1/2tons, 6 weeks ago. I was also told that lots of complaints of no power when towing brought this about. I asked that my gears be changed out to the 3.73... sorry, but we can't unless authorized by the factory.
O.K. Made the call to Chevy, twice...Sorry sir, your vehicle is performing at its optimum design. We are sorry we can't help you and we will file you as dissatisfied. Bull!!!!
Now my only option is to go through arbitration and prove there is a fault in their design. I've already told them that they advertise a pulling capacity that is greater than what I am actually towing, and mine is not cutting it. I don't think a tach should run at 4500 when driving down the highway. So much for the extra money I spent to get the trailer towing option.
Buyer Beware...If you are hauling flowers, go for it. If you need some dirt, buy a 2500HD....read morehide

I own a totally stock 2002 F-150 FX4. This Z71 is a loaner while one of my cars is in the body shop. I've had it 5 days now...long enough to conclude that, compared to my FX4, this thing is a joke. It rides hard, it sits too low and the seats are too mushy, so when you get in, you sink down even further...it's like you're down there with the 2WD's. The cheap hard plastic armrests are murder on your elbows. It has no grab handles on the driver's side. The cruise control setup is on the turn signal. I can't begin to describe how screwy that is. The Bridgestone Duelers constantly throw rocks into the fenderwells after a trip down a gravel road. This truck has many other annoying quirks about it too, not the least of which is the thing's just plain ugly. I would suggest to anyone considering purchasing one of these, go to the rent-a-car place (mine came from the one that's named after the famous starship), and rent one for a week. Forget the test drive stuff. You need to drive this thing for about a week to really appreciate it. It'll be a couple hundred bucks well spent....read morehide

I've been waiting twelve years to finally be able to afford this truck, and it was worth the wait. The luxury put into this chevy is top notch. I test drove (the other truck...) and comfort was definitely a selling factor. The gm employee special going on right now is a dream come true. MSRP for my Silverado LS 1500, loaded with options was 34,000. I walked away with a selling price of 25,500. If you haven't shopped for a Silverado, I highly recommend it....read morehide

I just bought this truck on may 31st(E-cab, sb, Z71, alum. block 5.3, 3.42) and already have 900 miles on it. I was waiting to get this truck all throughout college and got it 2 weeks after graduating. I'm tall and its hard finding something to fit me nice, this truck does a great job. I am amazed at the mpg so far. One my first tank(with a good amount of city trips) I got 17mpg, my 2nd tank with 400 miles of highway I got 18.2mpg(cruising at about 70 the whole way). I expect this to go up a little more once the engine breaks in and I have also added a tonneau cover which I expect to raise milage a little bit. The express passenger side window is a great feature that I'm glad was added. I'm pretty impressed by the brightness of the headlights, good distance and sweep. My only complaint is the back end jumps around on rough turns at higher speeds(35mph?) I expect this though as; 1. It is a truck and does have a light rear. 2. Has the stiffer offroad shocks. Ohh ya, one last complaint. It collects bugs on the highway very nicely....read morehide
