I have owned my 2005 Mountaineer for about a month and have put about 2,500 miles on it. I like the vehicle very much, with very few complaints. The build quality is very good, performance with the V-8 is more than adequate and I find it easy to drive for such a large vehicle. I like the brakes, and the steering is nicely weighted, though I would prefer more road feel. The ride is excellent on smooth roads and much better than I expected on rougher roads. It doesn't pitch and roll and feels stable. Visibility and interior room are great. The gas mileage is not great, though I knew that when I bought it!
On the negative side, I am beginning to hear some rear end gear whine, which I will have checked out at my first oil change. No rattles or squeaks so far. I personally find the automatic transmission annoying - it is not responsive enough to take advantage of the power provided by the engine. It is slow to downshift and generally could be better at understanding what my right foot is doing.
I have owned two European cars prior to going back to Fomoco, and the auto transmissions in the Euro cars were much more responsive. Other than that, I am happy as a clam!...read morehide

The suv has a lot of features for the price. It included leather, pedal adjustment, cruise, alot of safety features (my insurance went down), and my note was a few dollars more than my previous note! What a deal!

I got this truck simply becuase of the deal they were offering, the outside looks are ok but front headlight could of been done nicer. The engine gives plenty of power for passing and towing. the v8 has hitch attached standard. one thing i found intersting was that the tjird row folds down but not completely flat the headrests make it stick up a little bit but its no big deal....read morehide

Great SUV. Much smoother ride than in my previous Explorer. Be sure to test drive the V-8 before buying the V-6. There is a major difference in both noise level and throttle response.

Definitely one of the better looking mid-size SUV out there. Nice lines and overall body design flow that doesn't have any angles that look weird. Doesn't look like the toy like looking styles of old "Colt" design or been there done that of the old Nissan PathFinder body style that copy cats such as the MDX, Pilot, BMW, Lexus, or Highlander try to emulate. However the new 2005 PathFinder looks very nice and more original than the import SUVs that I've just mentioned. Only had second thoughts between the Mountaineer and PathFinder after I bought the Mountaineer and saw the 2005 PathFinder on the road. The Lincoln Aviator also is my top choice....read morehide

I love my Mountaineer! I bought a 2002 and loved it so much, I just bougt a 2005! The best thing about it, is that my wife, at only 4'10" tall can drive it very comfortably since it has adjustable petals.
