Overall I am very impressed with my GLI. I purchased it with around 30k and now have 78k and only had to have the front driver window fixed under warranty for randomly falling down once. This is a beautiful car and is sneaky fast. The interior looks great but the back seat is small so not the best bet for a family car. Great value for a small car with European engineering and good gas milage. This car gets a lot of comments on the looks and often turns heads with drivers passing by....read morehide

Rattling, reliability, made in Mexico

Have a 2004 Jetta GLS, and I've had to take it in the shop for the seventh time coming up. Mostly for minor problems. My heat vents rattled (and still do). The car made a loud creaking sound when turning left. There was an annoying snap every time I hit a divet in the road (turned out a wire harness was lose behind the rear door). Numerous other small problems. Others I know with VW's have had issues with their's.

The only major problem I've had is my transmisison went stiff, and would not shift into second gear. Also, the dealer's service department has been outstanding. Never-the-less, I find it really hard to recommend this car. It's made in Mexico, and it shows. I won't be buying another one....read morehide

I love my GLI. As with any car there are some things you need to tweak. I gave myself a nice 100hp boost with a few mods from neuspeed.(p chip, p flow, turbo inlet pipe, downpipe, and intercooler pipe 0-60 5.2secs from stock 6.9 secs.) The suspention has a little more body roll than I expected but it was easy to fix. (neuspeed front strut bars(upper and lower), lowering springs) after this there was no body roll. Everthing cost me less than $1800.00 and I was able to do it all myself(execept for the springs and downpipe). Neuspeed is such a good company this didn't even void my warranty and can take just about any car on the road. I'm in MN so I run 16" steel rims with blizzaks in the winter and the car handles awesome. The 1.8T is one of the best engines out there (the 05 gli was the last jetta to have it) I love this car!!!! My husband bought me the 2004 in 2003 had it until two months ago. It was too expensive to maintain!! Brakes alone cost a few hundred. Had electrical problems a lot!! But I must say that the warranty responed every time. But imagine the embarrasment of having you new looking car towed away.

I have a 2001 TDI which I have driven since new and it has 130K miles. Overall it has been a great little car with very little repairs. What was repaired was covered and VW would send by mail a notification of any needed repairs.

This is my second TDI and I would buy another.

I don't know why people are talking so bad. I have a 2004 GLS 5 speed. I have only taken it to the shop for routine maintenance and a few small problems. I had a 2002 Ford Ranger Tremor. If you want to find out what problems are go and buy one of those. I have gotten good gas mileage in the 4 cross country trips I have made. I personally think that it was priced a little to high compared to the other cars I was looking at. Matrix, Mazda3 5 door, Chevy HHR, Cobalt. I think that it is a good first time buyer w/o a family. It runs great and gets good gas mileage....read morehide

my car is not even three years old and its had so many problems. water pump broke, transmission acts up, recall on seat warmers and back seat locks, once it could not get out of park-had to tow it because of that....i hate this car!!

I enjoy the fuel econ, I do get 48 mpg on average. The style makes me feel young and smart

It rides really firm and smooth, but lots of rattles, makes the value seem lower!

The manufactor seems as though they don't stand behind warranty well compared to manufactors like Hyundai does. I enjoy everything about the car except for the tinnyness when shutting doors and the ratterles in the car even over the slightest bumps, I even tryed to switch the air pressure, and didn't work, I also have had a shimmy in the wheel since new and they so far weren't able to fix. It also has been pulling from side to side exspecially when you go over a bridge, " a metal bridge, like the ones that have tiney grides over the whole bridge....I would think it has to do with tires but unsure......read morehide

I love VW. My parents have it and now i do. i bought mine in 2002 and i still have it. I won't chan ge it for anything even in ten years from now i still keep it. I am planning on getting a new one soon but i won't sell mine. i never had any problem with the engine or anything else. In the pst 4 years the only thing i had to fix was the glass that fell into the door but the warranty took care of it. Beside that i never had any problem with it.I am surprised other reviews were so degrading about VW and that they had so many problems. I would raccomend VW jetta to anyone.It looks great and the engine is superior to any American cars(i had pontiac and ford and none of them compare engine wise or interior wise which are really cheap)....read morehide
