It has been our experience that our 2006 Chevy Impala will not start if not run within 14 days. In 9 months , we have had this new car towed 5 times. We are afraid to use the car. We can't leave it at the airport because when we get back from our trip of 7 to 14 days - the car won't start. Dealer and General Motors say this is normal. We think not. They must think we are stupid. GM so far has not solved our problem....read morehide

Used at 12,500 miles and an extremely good value overall. Lighted controls at night are very nice. Averaging about 22 between city/xway and expected better. 3.9 engine is the same as the 3800 from my 93 Buick Riviera and the power is very nice and hopefully, just as dependable. I miss some luxury features from my Riv, such as cornering lamps and a more comfortable seat. Love the extra goodies such as traction control and pass through rear seat. This is the first 4 door car I have owned and swore I'd never have one. It's extremely sporty, very well put together with straight and neat body lines. The interior gadgets were a little overwhelming at first sight, but yet has an excellent blend of simplicity for cleaning and ease of use. Factory started leaves much to be desired as far as the starting range....read morehide

After 9,000 miles my 06 3LT has an annoying engine rattle while stopped in gear. The dealer informs me it is normal with nothing to fix, however, I will keep taking it back until they find the problem.
I am most disappointed with the gas mileage. I have not exceeded 26MPG yet. My 02 impala 3.8 L was rated for 29MPG and I exceeded 31 MPG routinely. Alao I sit up too high in the 06 in comparison with the 02. The seat will not lower any further!
I bought the 06 because of the tremendous reliability of my 02 175,000 miles without any major repairs.
In retrospect, I should have got the 06 Charger!...read morehide

At 3,000 miles, I'm still in the honeymoon phase, but I can't say enough good things about my '06 Impala 3LT. I think the design is gorgeous and well-detailed with hints to Impala heritage like the chrome wings surrounding the Impala logo on the dash board and the round tail lamp enclosed by the larger red surround.
Every time I look at the car, I find a new and intriguing design feature.
The interior and especially the dash board is great. If I'm not mistaken, the switch gear found on the Impala is GM universal and on the Lucerne and Tahoe, too. The driving position is sporty and comfortable, and mimics the low-prow front-view perspective found on Hondas and Acuras. Sort of makes you wonder how GM moved from their unfortunate designs of past to the head of the class which seems high-quality and intuitive design.
With out a doubt, the most impressive thing about the Impala interior is the quality and positive feel of the electronic switch gear like the windows and sunroof. WOW.
The seats are very supportive with strong and adjustable lumbar support. Wish they offered a touch of side bolstering. When I'm not sitting in the car, I miss the support.
The engine is a strong runner with surprising power and torque for 240 horses. Makes me think the V8 might be too much. Too new to predict milage returns.
The rear seat folds flat (flush - really!!!) with the already cavernous trunk. If Toyota offered this on the Camry, the automotive press would be besides themselves offering praise for the revoulutionary design.
The only other vehicles I've been impressed with as much as this is the '00 Acura TL my mother bought six years ago and a Toyota Tundra I drove two years ago. There could be some things done differently, or better, like a dead pedal on the left side of the driver's foot well and a touch of side bolstering to the seats, but all-in-all, this car gets an "A."...read morehide

I love the new 3.9 engine. Plenty of power and is good on gas. Nice and quiet inside.

I took delivery of my new 2006 LT3 Impala in late September as soon as it arrived at my local dealer and have put 26,000 miles on it. Yes I did say 26,000 miles. I travel a lot for my job and usually get a new car every other year(my job pays for it). The only problem I had with the car is one of the day time running lights burned out. Other than that small issue, nothing has gone wrong with it. All of my other cars have had problems but this one has never let me down. Rear wheel drive would be nice but the front wheel drive works fine. I do commute through New York and front wheel drive will probably work well in the snow. The ride is smooth and Chevrolet has built many convenience and saftey features in the car. During the break in period, my gas milage was not so great but after my first oil change I believe I started getting around 31 miles to the gallon (highway miles)even with the upgraded engine on regular fuel. I do have the mid size engine (3.9L)in the car which is quiet and powerful. I would not hessitate to buy another Impala in the future and have ordered a 06 Impala LTZ (luxury edition) for my mother. I have owned about 25 cars of various makes in my lifetime so far and this is my favorite one by far....read morehide

My only major complaint is that this car does not come equiped witha full size spare tire. Toyota does come witha full size spare tire. G.M. may save a couple of bucks but can cost the consumer in the long run. I've been told that is a matter of weight. It is small wonder that Toyota has passed Chevrolet in sales. I hate to buy an imported car but may be convinced by G.M.'s cutting cost in this manner. I would be happy to pay for the cost of a full size spare tire if it were offered....read morehide

The new chevy impala is a great car. I'm happy that they went with a V8 engine on the SS. The styling of the car is beautiful inside and out. The only downside I saw with the new Impala is that they made the SS a front wheel drive car, other than that the ride is amazing, the fuel economy is great (especially with the displacement on demand on the SS). I have never been a big chevy fan but after driving this I starting to reconsider....read morehide
