Purchased As Used
I bought my 2006 Impala with a 3.5 L Motor 6 months ago. It has 85,000 miles on it. They are mostly highway miles. I've been reading about the car and it scares me. My water pump just went out which is very common. It costs right at $550 because you can only get a AC DELCO Part from the dealer. The part alone is $275.00 or so. Anybody that wants to do it for more is ripping you off. The other problem I'm having is with the traction control light going on and off which is causing my car to shirt hard. When it is off it shifts just fine. Then the check engine light is on and it is making my car run rich which decreases my gas mileage. I took it to the mechanic and they thought it was a leak in a hose..now they are unsure. If I find a solution I will post it. If anybody has found a solution please let me know. I'd say pass this car on by....read morehide

I rented this car for three days to drive up to Boston from New York City for my company. I picked it up at Avis, because it had an EZ pass so I did not have to wait at toll booths. I was immidiately impressed with the raw power of this vehicle. You just tap the gas pedal, and it flys! -- NO Delay!
It started snowing on the way back to New York from Boston; the car handled extremely well in the snow, and I felt very secure. Overall, the car seemed very well built and reliable. This car makes me proud to be an American, and want to buy American!
Cheers...read morehide

Had a 2003 Impala that I gave to my son. The 2003 was the best car I've ever owned and I have owned many, foreign and domestic. When the chance to get a new 2006 at a deeply discounted price developed I jumped at the chance. If this car performs as well as the 2003 I think the Impalas will continue as the car of choice for me. The 2003 would get 32 MPG on trips and 27 around my small town. Hope the 2006 is similiar because there is absolutely no reason to go for those 4 cylinder runabouts when the comfortable Impala is available....read morehide

Pros: the steering wheel radio and cruise buttons, remote start, comfortable seats, huge trunk, 36 radio presets, jack for mp3 player in dash, heater warms quickly, defrost works quickly, love the sapphire blue color of mine, this body style is really sharp compared to previous models, many friends have commented that it rides nicely, huge backsteat, dual climate control
Cons: my mileage is usually around 23mpg on average, doesn't like to get up and go when I'm at 1/4 tank, have to use handles in back as clothes hangers - but the clothes stay on them and aren't really in the way more than regular hooks, stereo sound could use more oomph, wish the gear shift was on the floor instead of on the steering column
I am almost 25, and traded in a 2000 Grand Am GT (110K mi) for my Impala. I had been looking at Accords, Camrys. and Altimas, but since I am trying to finish grad school, the Impala fit in our budget.
We are thinking of starting our family in a year or two, and chose this car for the excellent safety ratings, large trunk, and spacious interior. It's still sporty enough that I don't feel like a total granny (the previous body style looked boring, IMO), but it's responsible enough to be a mommy wagon. I bought the Impala with 7K miles in Nov '06 (program car) and it has about 14K right now.
I had the car in the shop a couple of weeks ago - check engine light came on after a long road trip. Called GM Roadside, they were great, had my car flatbed towed to the dealership it came from. Turned out that a little wire had come loose and shorted out, which has not been common in Impalas according to the guys at the shop. They provided me a loaner car for free, and got my car done by the end of the same week, all repairs covered under warranty. It's been fine since. It's never fun having your car in the shop, but GM took good care of me.
If you are looking for a very sensibly priced sedan, and aren't worried about the frilly stuff you'll pay for in Toyota or Honda, definitely get an Impala....read morehide

Looking out at the curb this car doesn't look that big. Inside it feels huge and very roomy. We bought the car used with 16,000 miles on it and paid about $17,000. This car has leather seats, satellite radio, sunroof, will open my garage door, flip & fold rear seats, it tells me how much pressure is in each tire, remote start (which when it's cold outside it turns on the heat, hot it turns on the a/c), it tells me what direction I'm heading, it even tells me to drive carefully because it is cold enough for ice on the road. I haven't taught it to make me a sandwich yet but I'm working on it. I love this car!...read morehide

Great value if you are going with a new car. The car is large enough to feel safe in, yet it handles like it is very light. It's quick at all speeds. It runs good on E85 (Ethanol), but it takes up to ten miles to adjust. I had some sensors go off because I didn't drive it far enough after I filled up with E85. The fuel milage is much worse on ethanol, somewhere around 17 MPG for the 5 tanks I monitored. Highway, city, Sunday driving and hotrodding seemed to have no affect on the 17 MPG. This is not the case with regular petro. I would buy one again....read morehide

Oh my gosh!!! OK, so this is quite possibly the perfect car. I've owned it about 3 weeks now and will submit another review later on. But I absolutely love this car. It looks great. It is so comfortable to drive. More than enough power from the 211 HP V-6. Yet, I'm getting between 16-18 mpg in town and I'm not driving like a grandpa for sure...wink wink. In fact...I just blew the doors off a fairly new tricked out Ford F150. He came up on me as I was doing around 30mph. He hit the gas and I was unprepared for the race. I floored it and blew him away. It was funny. He turned off at the next intersection...embarrassed I'm sure. ; ) Anyway, I just got a new job where I will be travelling quite a bit. This car is a program car with 17,000 miles on it. Just broken in you might say. So I picked it up from the dealer with plenty of bumper-to-bumper warranty left and for only $14,998. The tires were like like new and the interior was flawless. It felt like I was driving a new car, but I didn't have to put up with the new-car break-in period or the new car price (07's are selling for $25,000). I love everything about it. Great power, great mileage, great looks, great ride, huge trunk space, hidden compartments all over the place, slide out telescoping sun visors (I just love this for blocking the sun as it comes in my side windows), great sounding radio-cd-mp3 player, beautiful interior and exterior, room enough for my family of 6 to fit if the minivan is in for service...this is QUITE POSSIBLY THE WORLD'S MOST PERFECT CAR!...read morehide

I rented an Impala for four days, drove 1400 miles through three states. I rented this full size car because I had a lot of miles to cover and needed a comfortable ride. All I can say, this is one smooth cruiser at any speed. At 80 mph it just hovers over the freeweay. With cruise control engaged, the car practically drives itself. Plenty of room all around. At first the styling looked a bit outdated, specially compared to the European cars. But I have to admit, the looks kinda grow on you. Example: This car has a wheel column shifter. Something my grandpa had. The center column does not reach the floor either. It seems awkward, but this will actually free up a lot of space underneath the console and free up a LOT of legroom. And honestly, compared to many other cars with a center column, I started to prefer this "outdated" style. Even though the design seems outdated, it grew on me mile after mile.
The quality of the car feels comparable to cars from Japan and Europe. The plastics are of high quality and all feels nice to the touch. The best thing about this car is of course that it has plenty of room everywhere. I arrived at my destinations not all tired and worn out. Engaged with cruise control, I stretched my legs, back and arms. Super comfortable and spacious. Suspension are a mixture of old American "float" feel with advance European tightness. The combination feels very nice. Not stiff like the imports, and not as wobbly as the domestic cars of years past. Real smooth. The trunk is opened with a button, either on key chain or from the inside dashboard. I wished it had a handle though. We had some rain which froze at night. And the trunk did not pop open with pushing a button alone. If it had a handle, then one could apply a bit of human muscle to open it. I did get it open though. Once you see the trunk, you will be amazed how huge it is. You can literally crawl in there. Very much comparable to the NY taxi cabs.
This being a rental, it only had the basic options. I would like to drive this car in leather and with a sunroof.
Gas milage: The onboard economy computer calculated an average of 24.4 m/gallon. On the freeway the economy indicater displayed a range averaging about 30 m/gallon. Not bad for a big car.
Braking: The brakes are extremely sharp. I was really impressed.
Transmission: Very silky. Never noticed that it was even there.
Noise: There is some tire and road noise. Could be slightly improved.
I was really sad having to turn this car back into the rental agency. I am not in a market for a new car right now, we own an SUV and a sports car, but I am thinking about replacing my gas guzzling SUV with a sedan. The Impala would be on that list, guaranteed....read morehide

This car looks so nice and rides so good it's hard to believe it beats the Camry, but it does.

I shopped the internet for many cars (Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Toyota Camry, and Honda Accord) and they did not offer what Chevy did. Most of these cars either had one or the other as far as price, beauty, room, and engine size. At first I did not even want an Chevy, but when I saw what they had to offered I feel in love. The impala's price is very reasonable, its trunk space is really something you have to see, comfortable seating, it is very, very quick, and the gas milage is amazing. I put more gas in my 03 Nissan Sentra and the gas milage is the same, and this car is way bigger. Baby, Chevy is back, so all others better watch out. I am totally in love with this new impala, I had to tell my boyfriend thanks for he's the one that convience me to take a look at Chevy. He always has had confident in Chevy, he wont buy no other. Also, these cars are easy to work on and parts are easy to find. All I have to say is American made cars are back....read morehide
