Purchased As New
I bought my '06 Expedition Ltd new, it seemed like a decent car with only minimal issues. Then the 3yr/36,000mile warranty had been expired for 60 days and I only have 27,200 miles on the vehicle and the transmission failed. I had it towed to a Ford Dealer and they estimate $2500-$3500 to fix it. I appealed to Ford as the warranty was only 60days expired and it was well below mileage. They reviewed the case and said they will offer NO ASSISTANCE.
When I buy a new vehicle I expect the major parts to last beyond 27,200 miles - This is a bad situation and the manufacturer is not standing behind their product. I WOULD STAY AWAY....read morehide

For appearence this SUV is tops compared to other choices. 07' models look even better! Comfort without a doubt is also tops, I have two children with car seats and there is plenty of room. My other choice was a minivan and I'm not going down that road buddy! Performance the big V-8 does it all, stands out in a crowd as well, nuff said bout that. For value, I'm not quite sure if the value is quite there due to high gas prices. I drive some 70-80 miles round trip (daily) and I'm filling up almost twice per week! Ouch! But you know what, if you can afford a SUV like this, you're probably not worried about gas prices anyways. My overall satisfaction score was low due to several problems. 1) Wind noise on the drivers side door. It gets to the point of down right annoying. 2) Water leak, yea, the back window leaks. I had my Expedition in to replace the seal, guess what, still leaks! 3) Tire pressure warning light seemed to be always on despite dealer checking and saying all's good?? Huh! Otherwise the 06' Expedition rocks! My guess, many owners feel the same way I do when it comes to Appearence, Comfort and Perrformance....read morehide

This has been a great vehicle for us...so versatile. Sits high with good visibility, but handles more nimbly than anticipated. Wish that we would have found one with the tailgate sensor to help with backing-in parking. Lots of get up and go when you need it. Can't complain about anything...other than the price of gas...but we knew that going in!...read morehide

Overall i love it good for the night out. I would definitely recommend this SUV for anyone. Downside is the fuel economy and so is any SUV.Either way i've driven Ford my entire life and I'm not about to stop now

This is a great vehicle for things such as long trips, carpooling, families that need space, a family tow vehilce, and a parent that wants to have fun. This car is big and weighs in at about 7,000 lbs, but it moves when you put the petal to the metal! On more than a few occasions I have left tuner cars at stop lights and broken the rear tires loose! The 5.4L has AWSOME responsivness, is capable of putting out over 400 HP with minor mods, getting 22 MPG Interstate not towing, and towing loads up to about 7,000 lbs. It also has the same vents and gages found on some 2006 Ford Mustangs. The 2WD model makes up for lack of traction with weight and a smaller turning radius. Thus making it VERY easy to whip around considering the size of the vehicle. The XLT model has lots of space and if one folds down both rows of seating, they can fit 4'x8' sheets of building materials in the vehicle. The XLT model is also a good balance between economy and sheer expensive luxury. With the middle row upright., you can fit 5 adults in comfort and still have a 4'x4' cargo area.
On the darker side of this vehicle, it can get fuel economy as low as 11 MPG towing 7,000 at 85 MPH hill and dale on the interstate, it is a domestic with only a 3 yr warranty, it is NOT a small vehicle, costs in excesse of $34,000, and there is NO limited Slip to help you when things get slick. However with proper driving technique, it is better than 2 WD Jeeps, GMC SUV's and other vehicles in the same class. Performance parts for this vehicle would be great, but there are hardly any available. Other Expedition owners get 20 MPG city and 25 MPH highway with certain mods, plus they have the get up and go of smaller sports cars....read morehide

It's a beautiful truck that rides smooth. Worth every dollar spent. Great for familys of all ages.

Nice family starter vehicle, gives you all the room of a minivan - without making you feel... well, like your driving a minivan.
HANDLING:
After upgrading from a 1994 Bronco, I feel this has a BIG change in the road handling (after all the Bronco was basically just a SUV body bolted atop a F150 truck frame - very rugged, real manly, but very bumpy). The Expedition handles surprisingly well for a large vehicle, (this may have something to do with the front and rear coil-over shock system instead of just having coil-overs in the front and leafsprings in the rear?) very smooth and quiet ride - and at times you don't even realize that you are doing over 80mph on the highway!
Which brings me to my next point; the Speedometer: Very hard to read the speedo on this trim level - numbers are small and WAY too close to one another... When traveling at highway speeds, this could get you into real trouble, as they are not easy to read at 'a glance'. Digital speedo is the way to go.
POWER:
This trim level doesn't give much *UMPH* to speak of for being an 8cyl 5.4L engine - the 3.31 ratio makes it feel a bit lacking in the take-off and acceleration and I would just really recommend if you are set on getting this trim level, at least upgrade to a 3.55:1 ratio... Or the 3.73:1 if you are going to pull your toys, have a large family that likes to go on outings, or are the designated person to help everyone move 'cuz you've got a big truck. You'll really appreciate the significance in the response when you're going uphill, passing, merging, etc.
INTERIOR:
Very good and comfortable ride, lots of room in the 2nd & 3rd rows (even for me & I'm 6')... Love, Love, LOVE the cloth seats, don't know what the material is - but it's really nice and gets much attention and comments. No AC vents for the 2nd or 3rd rows, but AC is strong enough to eventually reach your mother-in-law and other backseat drivers.
However, with all this room, there is NO STORAGE on the 60/40 split bench package - at least in the previous years models the center armrest folded down in the front seat and had a small compartment built in to the top of it - this has NOTHING! Not even a place for your sunglasses or garage door opener.... But I have NINE CUPHOLDERS! (FOUR are in the front row? - Why not throw in the extra two and make it a six-pack?) EXTREMELY DISSAPOINTED with the LACK OF STORAGE.
All in all - This is a good Truck/SUV - very basic, yet very roomy and quiet on the road... But for the couple extra dollars I would really recommend getting at least the XLT model with the Power Driver & Passenger Captains Chairs & the 3.73:1 Gear ratio and powerfold seats... Spend the extra money and be happier....read morehide

Traded my Chevy Astro for this because I love the looks and style. Drives and rides much better than expected. So many features I haven't learned them all yet. Love it!

Love this truck, but... My wife and I are on our 5th Ford SUV (Explorer, Expedition) because we've liked them so much, but have noticed a trend -- they have all had transmission problems. Just noticed my Expedition dripping transmission fluid the other day...
When I took it in for an oil change the other day and mentioned the transmission issues we've had with our Fords, the guy just laughed and said, "yea, I know, we see it all the time and by the way, your transmission fluid was so low it wasnt even registering on the stick"...sigh...
So, put aside some dollars to have the transmission rebuilt at some point, consider the extended warranty (this usually happens 40,000+ miles) or plan on trading in on a regular basis....read morehide
