Purchased As Used
I think I bought a lemon. The best mpg's so far is 31 mpg. I've tried multiple driving techniques, even rode around w/ a Honda mechanic for hints. It has very sluggish acceleration. I bumped the curb on my driveway and my front bumper came off on one side. This is my 5th Honda. I've had more problems w/ it than all of the others combined. The transmission is not smooth. It feels like I'm driving w/ someone who is just learning to drive a standard....read morehide

This is my second Civic Hybrid, the 2007 replacing my 2004. Over its' lifetime, I averaged 46.9 MPG, compared to the 47/48 EPA estimate, I'm not sure how some drivers only get 30-35 MPG, I had only one tank ever go below 40 (38.8) MPG. The first tank on the new 2007 came in at 47.2 MPG. The style in the new design has improved a great deal over the first generation, with added pep under the hood as well. I'm looking forward to many years with this car. On top of all that, combined Federal and State tax credits total $4,876! Hard to argue with that one....read morehide

I am extremely disappointed in Honda's blatant misrepresentation of the true miles per gallon achievable for the 2006 Civic Hybrid. I was assured by the dealer that the EPA rating of 51/49 was achievable with light-footed driving. Instead, 6 months of driving reveals an average of 38 mpg (combined city and highway). A call to the service section of my Honda dealer resulted in the manager telling me that the service dept. was at odds with the sales dept. in being truthful about gas mileage. He also told me that mileage would improve significantly after a 10,000 mile engine break-in period. Subsequent conversations with other Civic Hybrid owners reveal there is no significant improvement after 10,000 miles. Get it right, Honda! Truth in advertising. If EPA's fuel efficiency testing method is inaccurate, tell your customers about it up front!!! A 25% discrepancy between advertised and achieved fuel efficiency is inexcusable....read morehide

I love my civic hybrid! I have a standard transmission and it drives more smoothly than any car I've ever owned. It glides. It has great pick up and incredible gas mileage.

MPG varies based on the weather. In summer, 41~43MPG. In winter, 37~39MPG in mainly highway driving.
The civic hybrid has very serious quality issues that shuts down the hybrid system. IMA/Maintenance/Battery lights tuned on and the car became the non-hybrid car. The dealer does not have clue how to fix the problem. 1st time the dealer reset the internal computer and it fixed the problem. 2nd time the dealer upgraded the software. Before making a decision please do google with keyword "civic hybrid IMA check engine light." I wish I had dome more research....read morehide

We just bought this car and we love it. I was suprised to see just how much room this car has. I'm a big guy (6'1" 315) and have no trouble fitting in this one. We are still on our first tank of gas, and we are averaging 39 mpg. It will get better as we break it in. I recommend this car to anyone who is tired of paying high gas prices. We looked at the Prius and it's too small for me.
Please test drive this car and you will be pleasantly surprised....read morehide

Can be dificult to enter becuase the car is so low to the ground. Needs a larger and taller door.

Daily roundtrip commute is 60 miles. Gets 40.5 miles per gallon combined city/highway with 90% on the highway during this commute. I recently did a 200 mile round trip with virtually no city driving and at 65 mph using the cruise control nearly the entire way (had to slow down and stop for brief bridge toll) and it did 49.5 mpg. If you're familiar with the San Francisco Bay Area, the commute was from the mid-Peninsula along 280 north and then across the Bay Bridge, up 80 to Sacramento, and then back again. Up and down a bit but also a fair amount of level driving....read morehide

We've been very happy w/our 2006 Civic Hybrid so far. Mileage on the highway is 50+ as advertised, especially in cruise, although city mileage is usually just above 30 for us (we live in a very hilly area). I expect that to improve with time, as we learn the car better. The interior and interface are modern and "fancy" without being too much, and my only main criticisms are (1) I found the unusual forward-leaning headrest to be really uncomfortable, and had to put a pillow under my back to get my head forward, and (2) it's really frustrating that the seats don't fold down and there's no pass-through. I know it's a hard problem w/the batteries, but for this reason alone we wouldn't have this as our only car.
Otherwise we're very happy with this car, and very glad we didn't spend $5000 more on a Prius!...read morehide
