I bought my H3 based on looks definately not performance. I saw the H3 with the Adventure package and knew it was me. The gutless inline 5 is absolutely worthless. If you look at GM's lineup you will wonder how they could still be in business. However, when I purchased it I already knew I was going to put a new exhaust system and a new air intake and combined has given me an estimated 30 additional horses which make a huge difference. My H3 actually moves, I can change lanes when I need to and not slow down traffic. I Have taken my H3 up to Gorman (those of you who live in Los Angeles might know where this is) and went through the rock pit and up a few trecherous hills and ripped it around with no problem, I was extremely surprised with the performance and handling. Further, I tow a trailer with 3 motorcycles on the weekends up to the desert to go riding and my H3 pulls the trailer with no problem. My wife and I took the H3 down the 26 mile dirt road down from Angeles crest to Azusa canyon which was pretty fun. The down side about the exhaust and air intake I installed is that my H3 now gets about 10 miles to the gallon which isnt to bad considering before the modifications I was getting about 13. Most people who purchase these SUV's already know that the gas mileage is poor but are willing to bite the bullet just to look cool. My advice is that if you are not going to use your H3 as a true SUV and beat on it you might as well buy another brand SUV that will give you more performance and comfort for your money. I plan on driving my H3 into the ground and eventually dropping a 350 small block into it. My prediction is that in 20 years you are going to see H3's still on road but with aftermarket V8's the same way you still see old Ford Bronco's on the road. The H3 is very rugged and solid but gutless! And for $36,000 to $40,000 for the luxury model, dont do it! Unless you are rolling in cash, buy a Chevy Tahoe or Check out Dodge's lineup on nice SUV's for the same money as a H3 you can get a Dodge SUV with a 350 Horsepower Hemi. Dont be fooled by the Hummer name, shop around or plan on modifying your H3 to make it go faster!...read morehide

This is my 12th car and I think I have finally found the one I'll payoff! It is so easy to drive through the curves! My last car was a '04 Jeep Liberty, which was very perky and cute, but a little tippy on curvey roads. My H3 is splendid! It drives easy, it looks great, too! I have actually had people (mainly men) ask what it is! We live in a small town, so I think I may have paid a little much for it, but, it's the only one in town!...read morehide

Just got rid of mine. I did not like it at all. With two kids in the back no pick up, poor performance, bumpy ride, gas mileage very bad on highway average was 15 going 65 mph. Turning radius bad, even with many aftermarket upgrades was not up to the factory glory. Would not reccomend to anyone.

I was very skeptical about purchasing this car but my wife begged me so we got it for her 40th. I have to say it has grown on me to the point where I truly enjoy driving it.
First, I read some of the other comments and had to laugh. Anyone who has driven one knows this car drives like it has more than 220h.p. It is not a race car and will not pin you back in your seat but it has decent pick-up if you know how to drive. I recently went on a trip with my in-laws in their Chevy Tahoe and your right ...it does have more power. It also averaged 9.5 m.p.g. when fully loaded with five people and stuff. We would have been better off taking two cars! If you want an S.U.V. that gets more than 10 m.p.g. you have to sacrifice a little power. If aren't towing a boat you can hardly notice.
We ordered the luxury package and were not disappointed with the interior. Great leather seats, steering wheel and the stereo is first rate. The only thing they could improve is the location of the window controls but I have gotten used to them.
Were this car excels is off road. You don't drive off road you say? Well neither do I until I went to a family party at a campsite in mexico. The road is about 2 miles of mexican washboard ( very rough ) and most of the cars and S.U.V.'s were crawling along. This car flew on that road and you barely feel the bumps. I had the suspension checked at the dealer afterward and it was fine. We didn't even order it with the "off-road" package.
The only complaints I have with the car are the wind noise with the odd body shape ( this was expected ) and some brake noise coming from the brake pedal. We ran the A.C. at full blast in 100+ degree weather and it did run a little hot ( again to be expected ) but I could not overheat the car and it blew ice cold. Our last car was an import S.U.V. and the A.C. was pathetic in hot weather from day one.
This is a very nice mid-size S.U.V.. If u want better mileage get a plain wrap Toyota Highlander. If you are towing a boat get a Tahoe or Expedition. If you want a fun, mid-size S.U.V. take a look at this car with some realistic expectations. We have had ours for a little over 9,000 miles and it has really grown on me....read morehide

I just bought my HUMMER H-3 with the luxury package and I AM IN LOVE WITH IT! I read a lot of quotes from people saying it needed more power. I disagree!!! I got on and off the freeway in Dallas traffic with no problems! The ride was smooth even on bumpy roads. Also, my wife and I both have bad backs, (herniated disks), and we both agree that this is the most comfortable vehicle that we have ever ridden in or own. We also have a dodge truck and a Volvo car. Neither of our vehicles compare to the ride and comfort of the HUMMER. the HUMMER's turning radius is second to none in it's class. I will be a repeat buyer, especially when they come out with a diesel! INCREDIBLY SATISFIED AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ANYONE THINKING OF PURCHASING THIS FANTASTIC VEHICLE!!!!!!!!!!!!...read morehide

I love the styling an the Hummer Family details. On the bad side, My Jeep Cherokee had much more power (sometimes I worry about merging in fast moving traffic). I know I souldn't expect good fuel economy, but I am not a heavy-footed driver, and I consistently get under 10 miles per gallon. I have also had my rig into the shop 3 times for a transmission that would not upshift... At least the Dealer is Friendly to work with......read morehide

Poor mileage. Rough ride. Clumsy handling just a poor vehicle. Replacement tires would bankrupt the average person. Poor warranty, except for the so called image there is much better vehicles for less money. To sum it up just not worth the money. Built on a Chevy Colorado cheap chassis with a 5 cylinder engine....read morehide
