Purchased As Used

I bought this car as a certified model from local Jag dealer with 26,000 miles. It looked almost new. The car now has 35,000 and has been the BEST car I have ever owned and driven. I love driving it and have been very pleased with every aspect of it. I actually get 30+ mpg highway at 75mph. It drops below to 25mpg at 80mph so it's not worth the extra speed. I will drive this car until the wheels fall off. Thanks to all the other reviewers that gave this car great reviews that convinced me to buy one. I always wanted one since the 80's but never trusted the reliability, now I do and can..no problems yet!...read morehide

Software problems in spades!

I purchased a Vanden Plas in Feb. of '06 and in the past year, the vehicle had been in for service at least 8,count them,8 times for various softwear problems. The final straw was have the engine shut down completely requiring me to drive home in "limp home mode" during rush hour traffic. Car was flatbedded in (3rd time). Long story short, we now have another "06 Vander Plas. At mile 56, the software shut the car down rendering it unable to be driven. Flatbedded again!
Car returned two days later to my home. Drove it another 50 miles and had the same software problem. you guessed it...flatbedded to Jaguar. Has anybody had the same issues with this beautiful, $80K, dare I say, lemon?...read morehide

Luxuriously appointed. Plenty of power. Great performance. Ultra-comfortable.

Cons

Performance computer too sensitive. Road noise more noticeable then on the previous two generations.

This is my third XJ and so far is my most favourite. Albeit it's 6 inches longer, the difference is unnoticeable. The Alpine audio system is superb, GPS is user-friendly, environmental control system works flawlessly, Bluetooth phone sounds great, and all powered devices are well-designed. I also favor the addition of proximity sensors on the front and rear bumpers.

I dislike the cheap-looking rearview mirror housings and the dual windshield wipers setup, though. They gave a feeling of having borrowed components from Ford Tauruses or Focuses on a top-notch and fine automobile such as this. Get rid of them on future models, please!

Once this XJ-8L is paid for, I'll definitely trade it in for whatever comes next. Again, this Jag leaves the Cads, Lexuses, Infinities, Bimmers, and Benzes in the dust!

Put two engines in over burning oil,tranny has software problems

Ok for looks... the 2003 and its weight much better, ut the transmission needs software looked at , serious problems Ford will not fix...and the 2006 now is so much lighter like driving the Continental. It is no longer a sport sedan....Two engines went inot the 2003 over a bad ring problem....Ford really destroyed a classic and rolled off technoligy it doesnot have the expertise to fix or want to fix. The help line is merely a sad sorry but the employ great listeners...no take the ball and present real issues to the BIG BOYS who screwed up the car...read morehide

I have had the large Mercedes and just turned in a new Audi A8 for this car. There is no comparison. The performance of the R model is incredible. I think that few people have noticed how fast this car is because it is so smooth. Let's not forget this car does 0-60 in about 5 seconds and the quarter mile in 13+ seconds! The handling is very tight but the CATS system keeps the ride quiet and smooth. in fact, so quiet and smooth, that it's easy to miss the fact that this is a full-blown performance car. Only the driver really will realize how strong the car is. Since it never intrudes, it's easy to underestimate. Also, at 17,500 miles, the car has had only one problem (the windshield wiper motor was replaced under warranty). It's been the most trouble-free car that I have ever had. Since Jaguar chose to use evolutionary, rather than revolutionary, styling, I don't believe that people realize that this is an entirely new car. The new aluminum body is a fantastic platform for a fantastic new car. It's too bad that nobody is noticing. Fuel economy is best in class. Real world fuel economy for this car is 22 mpg if you drive it gently and 17 mpg if you are aggressive....read morehide

Bought the car new in 04 and 40 000 mi. later it is still the best, not a peep out of it,its quick and smooth and nothing on the road looks as good.it was hard to give up my mb S500 but it was a great move. a 07 XJ8L will be mine soon. The new dealership in town is much improved.

This is my third xj and it is amazing. I love the lack of tech junk.

Sheer sophistication, leather, wood, tunes with no outside noise & fast.

Some of new model cars have attracted me, but I am turned off by the nintendo mentality of these cars. Jaguar may be a tad more remedial in the cockpit, but there is no discounting the quality of everything else making up for it. It is a luscious car, that is quick and fast. No Lexus needed here.

This car is a pleasure to drive,controls are well placed and straightforward..Interior wood and leather are beautiful.Beats the competition in most areas and is at least equal in the rest. I traded a 2006 Mercedes E350 on this xj8 and could not br happier with this move---no comparison.

This is the ultimate car. There's nothing that says "class" like an XJ8 - fluid, classic lines, exquisite trim - it can't be mistaken for anything but a Jag.

But beyond distinctive looks, there is breath-taking performance. This CAT is fast and agile. Breaks are responsive, the car corners like a dream.
