I've had this car for about a year and a half, it's from the first bunch off the assembly line. Although I've not had any problems with it, I'm not certain that I'd by "first" again. I drive a great deal both in city traffic and on the highway....believe it or not, I get better milage on the highway 26-28mpg, I have YET to see 30mpg!...read morehide

I would recommend the Mercury Mariner to ANYONE. I have had my 2006 Mariner for over a year and am as happy with it now as I was the first day. I am most pleased with the AWD performance in snow/ice. I was concerned how quickly it would respond to the weather and change to the 4X4 modality, and it has yet to disappoint. We live in a cul de sac at the bottom of a steep hill and my Mariner has made it up the hill without a glitch through 2 severe ice storms. In fair weather it performs great, as well. To use a quote from Pretty Woman, it "corners like its on rails!" I am also pleased with the benefits of the Premier version from the leather heated seats to the 7 speaker/subwoofer stereo system. I love my Hybrid. What a great choice. I have only had it for 2 months however I have absolutely no complaints. And this is my first American car which was a tough choice however I really wanted a Hybrid and I liked this one better then the others on the market. So far you can't beat this car in price and fuel economy. Also, if you are at all concerned about the environment this car produces less harmful emissions than most cars out there. Do your part and go hybrid otherwise don't complain about the pollution in the air, water and earth because you are contributing to it by driving a "fuel only" car. And if big corporations are starting to do your part when is the consumer finally going to get on board and do their part. Something to think about, right?...read morehide

i drove over 1k miles and i like this car. i am geting 26.5 mpg acording to the built in display. all highway, most going above 70mph on 87 octane. I havent been in trafic but i am actualy looking forward to a trafic jam so i can get the most out of this car. Before i was frustrated now im thinking look at these saps that are burning their money. i didnt like the look of the ford and although the car is made of the same parts i put more trust in mercury because i have andother 7 year old one that runs great. The ford is cheaper and you could have gotten a front wheel drive which would have been is more fuel efficient but i chose this. but no one had the base in the area and i needed the o% for 5 years and the car now so far i dont regreat it...read morehide

Rough ride, brakes unpredictable, other than console, no driver arm rest

I love the looks and the way the car handles. The ride is a bit rough tho. I'm not crazy about the color pebble for the interior. I think a grey or 2 tone would have dressed it up more. Mine is silver with a green mist to it. I love that! The wheels also look great. Speed is a big factor with me and the Mariner has plenty of power. Most of all I'm getting twice the MPG than I did from my Jeep....read morehide

One lazy weekend I was watching TV and saw the one and the only commercial I’ve ever seen for the Mercury Mariner Hybrid. I thought to myself, “I’d drive that”. Being from a Ford Family and owning an Explorer, I always thought I’d graduate into an Expedition, but filling the tank on even a modest Ford Explorer Sport soon became painful in today’s market, so I set myself to go test drive one. That’s all it took, I was hooked. It’s so fun to drive and watch the electric motor kick in, watching the average fuel economy creep upwards, it soon becomes a game, while taming my wild driving habits. The interior is a bit smaller than I’m used to, however I’m a large person and fit just fine. Unlike the Toyota Prius, which saturates the PacNW roads, I’ve not seen another Mariner on the Hi-way so I’m feeling pretty unique. The price tag is a bit steep at 30K, but a new SUV will run you about that or more and there is some satisfaction in being part of the solution and not the problem, all-the-while not compromising room, 4x4 or style....read morehide

A little slow off the line, brakes take getting used to

I chose the Mercurey Mariner Hybrid because I still wanted an SUV, but could no longer tolerate the 13.8 MPG I was getting on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Mariner was also $9K less than a similarly equiped (fully loaded) Toyota Highlander Hybrid.
Although a little slow off the line, the Mariner is peppy, responsive and fun to drive. It drives more like a V6, given the electric boost. Passing is no problem. MPG does depend on how you drive - more conservatively gives you better MPG. I average between 28 and 30 MPG in mixed metro driving. Using the cool MPG graphic on the Nav/info screen helps you to tame your driving habits to achieve maximum MPG. I noticed it takes about 3500 miles to "brake it in" as I get much better fill up to fill up MPG averages lately since my 01/06 purchace.
The brakes have a little more slack then normal brakes, which takes some getting used to. This is because braking is what recharges the battery and why it gets better mileage in the city than on the highway.
Finally, to encourage confidence in the technology, it comes with an 8 year / 100k mile warrantee on the entire drive train including all Hybrid components, with 3/36 bumper to bumper on everything else. All in all, I'm very pleased with this vehicle....read morehide

We live out in the country and do very little city driving. We've been getting 37-38 mpg on the highway driving 60 mph. Absolutely incredible vehicle.

I owned a 100% electric car before and know how to drive an electric vehicle. If you need to mash your foot down on the throttle every time you pull away from a light and then race to the next light in time to mash down on the brake, this vehicle isn't for you.

If, however, you are willing to adjust the way you drive, this vehicle will reward you with style, comfort, room, 4x4 capability for snow covered roads and incredible mileage.

Nice tight ride, brakes are really very solid and learning to be a green driver is sort of fun watching your energy consumption go up and down. I went from a Durango to this, the I seem to drive smarter not too!!!

The Mariner is a truly impressive Hybrid. In my opinion, it is the best Hybrid on the road. Toyota has the Prius which may offer ALLEGEDLY higher mileage(people I have spoken with are still looking for the claims to be true) but, if you want to drive a Hybrid to be proud of then, you need to buy a Mariner.
