I've had this suv for almost 3 years now and i love it. It rides really smooth and it can handle any kind of terrain with ease. The design is perfect. All the controls and gauges are right you would expect them to be. The cargo area is great, with hooks everywhere you would need them and a hidden storage compartment inside. I would definitely recommend this to anybody looking for a reliable, practical, and durable suv....read morehide

I bought the Xterra because it was the only real off-road SUV that I could afford as a student (27,000.00). Although I listed the cheap plastic interior as a con Im sure thats why I could afford it. But, I hate the overbearing VDC or rather that it cant be turned off completely. I took it off road in some deep snow and not being able to get the tires spinning the way I needed them to because of the VDC made me very nervous about getting stuck. Note to Nissan: the off button for the VDC means OFF!!!! Other than that I love it. I get an amazing 23+ mpg on the highway which I think is impressive for any 4x4 (excluding wanna-be's like the RAV4, CRV and the like)....read morehide

The 2006 Xterra was my first venture back into the world of SUV's since 1994. Having looked at a lot of competitors, I decided on the Xterra based on it's size (not too big nor too small), power, off-road capability and looks. The interior is on the spartan side, which can be a positive or negative depending on your preference. Personally I don't mind all the plastic surfaces since it makes cleaning a snap. Entry into the back seat can be tough, especially for children and people of short stature. The powerplant in the truck has been seriously upgraded from previous years, and gives you plenty of get-up-and-go. Shifting is crisp and the 4WD system is outstanding. Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) is standard and really comes in handy when driving on snowy/icy roads. My only complaints about this truck are the side mirrors, which don't allow for as much adjustment as I'd like; and the doors do not automatically lock once you reach a certain speed. The base sound system is adequate, but lacked iPod integration. Of course these shortcomings are trivial compared to all to Nissan goodness this truck has to offer. Oh yeah, and if you get one, get it in Solar Yellow- a very cool color!...read morehide

Okay, for those cry-babies that complain this Xterra rides too rough, it's a tough, off road, SUV - not an overpriced Lexus or BMW! An Xterra will smoke any luxory SUV out there. Done it several times.
I love this vehicle! Yes it is built on a truck frame and handles like it should. I love the cargo and seating in it. I have a 2005 Xterra SE with almost 24, 000 miles on it already and it has performed perfectly. Been to Vegas a few times, the desert and in the snow. No problems.
I recommend this vehicle who wants all the above but if you're looking for a smooth ride, waste your money and buy and overpriced Lexus or BMW....read morehide

I bought an 06 xterra 4X2 not a week later it snowed real heavy. My xterra made it up a steep hill that other trucks and front wheel drive cars could not. It did so well thanks to the anti slip controll which I did'nt even know it had. I don't know why there are complaints on the ride personally I think the ride is the best I've ever experienced. As a whole I am very pleased I just wished that I could of afforded a brand new one.....read morehide

There are several reviews that say the fuel mileage is not very good....well I check mine on just about every fill up and I get between 18.5 and 19.5 mpg during everyday driving. When I get on the highway, if I keep it under 70 mph, I will get 23 mpg. I consider that pretty darn good given the fact that it can tow my 19 foot bass boat or a 16 foot trailer loaded with 3 ATV's and not miss a beat. When towing my boat with the wife and kids and a gear for a weekend camping trip, I make roughly 12 mpg.I love my Xterra. I only have one complaint...the cargo area scratches very easily. I bought the Xterra carpet for the cargo area and that has helped a bunch....read morehide

I love this truck! My dogs love this truck! All the hard plastic inside is so easy to clean. No need to worry about stained carpet. Great handling off road and in San Francisco.
The first month driving was hard on me and anyone in the car. The smell was giving us a headache and making us drowsy. Even the dogs fell asleep in back which they never do.
Making a turn is smooth, very little lean. Anyone who wants a solid and fun ride needs to get one of these!...read morehide
