It's funny how people get upset about the mileage when they buy a 5.3L vehicle. I have it on a 10,000 mile lease, so it's not a big deal to me. Saab dropped this car an inch to get a better road ride, so I'd be careful trying to go heavy off-road with this. If you get the DVD-player, you won't be able to use the rear-view mirror when it is playing. Also it is very hard to control the DVD from the front conole, you have to use the remote!?!? If you have small kids like I do, it is tough....read morehide

If you can get this vehicle for under $35k you would have a tough time beating the value if you are looking for a higher-end SUV. It looks great (inside and out), is roomy, and the ride is OUTSTANDING. Saab-GM have done a great job improving the suspension, lowering the floor one inch (makes for easy in and out), and soundproofing the vehicle. If you have small ones, you'll love the latch points for car seats - they are extremely easy to get to.
Now for the disappointments. After spending a day at the dealer test driving different vehicles we finally select the 9.7 and get all the paperwork done. Baby is screaming and we are eager to hit the road with our new vehicle. We plunk the car seat in, get all set to go and...the low beams don't work. Dealer gives us a loaner while the 9.7 is in the shop for 2 days waiting for parts/repairs. Finally the car is delivered, and of course we give it an inspection - the lumbar support on the driver side doesn't work. Next day, I have the car on "battery only" listening to the radio while reading the owners manual. I go to crank on the car - the battery drained enough (in just 10 minutes) that it couldn't turnover the engine. So I was able to test out roadside assistance, they showed up in 20 minutes, jumped the car and I was on my way. Great service, wish I didn't have to test it out though. We bought this 2006 car in Jan. 2007 so perhaps some of these "kinks" can be attributed to the fact the car has been sitting on the lot for 6 months without much movement, but it just shows the lack of attention paid to small details.
Other minor things - you sometimes can sense that the transmission only has 4 speeds but for most driving conditions it's not a factor. The 4.2 engine has plenty of horsepower. We live in high altitude and it takes the climbs well so I really don't know why anyone would want the larger engine/poorer gas mileage unless you are going to do a lot of uphill hauling with the vehicle. The key in the console may be a "cute" European feature, but personally I would trade that off for another cup holder/larger arm rest - give me function over form any day. Also, expect GM quality on the "fit". On one door I can slip my small finger in the gap. GM puts lots of cushion in the door frame, however, so noise is not an issue but you would think they could do a better job with fit.
The dealer to their credit has offered to take the vehicle back but its likely we will keep it because we got a great deal (under $30k). I love the look, comfort, and how it drives. Ive experienced this before with GM products- kinks during break in, a few years of great reliability, and then typical end of life issues. Hopefully that will be the reality here as well....read morehide

Kim's family got stranded. Obviously, this SUV is not built for the wilderness. Should only be driven in the city.

I leased the 9-7 because of the GM pull ahead program. I leased a Trailblazer which was a pleasure to own. A flawless car that was good to haul stuff and was getting 18MPG. Looked at the new Trailblazers and the 9-7. Same engine, looked the same from the rear, but much nicer than the trailblazer for the money. Nicer interior, firmer ride, more car for the money. And Saab pays for the maitenace and it was $100 less month on my lease, a no brainer....read morehide
