Recent developments require an updated review, You can also see what I wrote on 06/09/06. At just under 36k miles, but just over 3 years (just out of warranty), my check engine light went on. The charcoal canister located under the rear of the car needs to be replaced. Almost $500! I've learned from other auto forums and a quick google search that this is a common problem with this model, which tells me it's likely to eventually reoccur if I repair it. I'm lucky there is no emissions testing in my area, so I don't have to repair it. This problem has no impact on tailpipe emissions, but I believe a check engine light is an automatic failure anywhere that does do emissions testing. This may not be a safety issue, but it can render a car not street legal, and is thus a very big deal! At this point Toyota is doing nothing about it. At the very least they could provide new charcoal canisters at cost, not the 1000% mark-up typical of OEM parts. This will be the first car I've ever owned with a check engine light always on. That, to me, just screams P.O.S.! It's really too bad, because in every other aspect, this has been and still is a great car....read morehide

I love my used Scion. It's fun to drive. I get great gas mileage. I always wanted a station wagon. My little blue Scion is fully loaded. This car has better pick-up, than my 11 year Corrolla. Great car. You should buy one.

You dont even need to use the A/C the fan alone is freezing!!!!!!! The car cannot hold 3 adults at the back comfortably unless your short pencil people. My average mpg is approx. 28 mpg and im on the highway alot and downtown. Good for city driving and small parking spots.

This was my first car and I absolutely love it, the only problem I have ever had is getting up steep hills. It takes some effort! Very weak A/C! Speakers almost completely blown after 5 months, no remote access

I bought this car the day after Christmas and was thrilled. No matter how heavy one side of the car is, the car does not tilt and stays balanced. The car is so small from the outside, but inside it feels so much bigger! The car also runs smoothly and is very easy to drive. Overall I am pleased with this car, but I was told that I would have remote access when I was buying the car and found out when I was about to drive out of the dealership that the xA doesn't come with it. I live in Las Vegas and now that Summer is here the A/C barely works. I've taken it to the dealership and they've said that the A/C was over charged and they had to recharge it and now the car runs more smoothly, but the air is still very weak. I've got to keep it on 2 or usually 3 during the day just to have some cool air in the car. The dealership said that the engine is small so that is why the air is not strong. Also, the dealership gave me a no haggle price of $14, 160 but it seems that they are supposed to be cheaper....read morehide

Stiff choppy ride on uneven pavement and on highways

I have owned this car for a few months now and I have been happy with it. The ride is alittle choppy and stiff but, I am unsure if that is due to the crappy stock tires or if that is how the car handles. The car has been great on gas i went 2 weeks on 1 tank of gas, I noticed when i used the A/C it guzzled it on another fill up. The pioneer cd player is great that was a great standard feature and helps with road noise when your driving down the highway at 70mph. The car is great for my needs I don't need a big car anyway but, i will admit that even though its a small car inside it feels like its alot bigger than it is. I say that because i can't believe i hit a curb with my back tire and i still dont know how long the front of my car is! For a small car the car offers alot of room inside. I think this is a great little car, i paid well under all the sales prices ive seen listed in car sale ads. I feel comfortable and happy that its a toyota under scion badging and i think it will last me for many many years I just think they need to make more scion models to choose from - way to go SCION/TOYOTA!...read morehide

No drink holders in the back.

I smile everytime I fill up the tank. It's great to commute back and forth to work.
Cons: Looking back, I feel I paid too much. The dealer offered me a "no haggle" price set by Scion of $14,800. Now I see they are listing at $12,000. I'm a little disappointed about that, but other than price, I love my little car and would highly recommend it....read morehide

I looked at the 2006XA and the 2007 Yaris. The Yaris was going to take 2 months to deliver; the XA came in within a week.
I love my little car; the mileage is very good, and it does perform well in city driving.
Although it's small, I'm able to pack a LOT in it. Even though I got rid of the mini van, I'm still stuck moving people in and out of apartments......read morehide

We brought this car to replace another car that we had for almost 7 years. We could not believe the reasonable price and it's comfortable features and its wonder appearance that was available in a small car.These features drew us to purchases this car. I would recommend that you purchase the cruise control and arm rest before you leave that car lot. You will discover that driving down the street or on long trip that you have no place put your arm or rest your foot while driving long distances. We really enjoy owning this car....read morehide
