We got out 06 Jetta in Jan06, 36000km on it now. The noise when starting the car is very very odd and is not acceptable in today's standards, it seriously sounds broken. Burns oil, although not as much as our 2002, 2.0LGolf did. It's been in the garage quite a few times. Warning lights come on fairly often. Catalytic converter was changed. Car also had a fuse missing for some unknown reason which was only discovered recently. Static in the radio/cd player once in a while. Brakes sometime have a horrible sound as if they were filled with sand. They're also very sensitive to water, mostly when parked and I nearly had an accident coming out of our parking lot as the brake pedal went to the floor and no braking occurred for the first few seconds, luckily the car in front pulled out just in time and I stopped exactly where he had been so now I make sure to test the brakes often when its raining. Rust is starting to show between the front and rear doors close to where the seals are. VW, along with some other manufacturers need to get their quality control and standards up. Seems every brand has defects, maybe some more tolerable than others.
Next car will probably not be another VW, we'll shop a lot more thats for sure....read morehide

I had a 2.5 Jetta brand new that I put almost 10,000 miles on it. I wanted to keep it but after it got the poorest rating in Consumer Reports and my constant trips to the dealer, I decided to trade it in while it was still worth something...and running! I bought a 07 Subaru Legacy and will never buy another VW again...esp. the German cars made in Mexico which every dealer told me is a very bad place to have a car made!...read morehide

I had taken my car to the dealer since the first week I bought it. From the static CD/radio to the rattling of my exhaust during start up, my biggest problem is with the headlights. They would turn off as if my bulb had blown out, and the next day, it would be like nothing happened. I've had "three service updates" done for that already.
I had asked why I burn so much oil, service guys told me its normal to burn a litre of oil in every 16K kilometres, which I found odd since my other cars didn't. It says somewhere in the manual they say. This is my first VW, and with the accummulation of problems since day 1, I have thought about trading it for another make numerous times. I like the '06 2.5, the comfort on the road and the big trunk, but these problems are getting annoying and its a waste of time having to go to the nearest VW service center for a check up every month or so. I had complained about rattling in my front end while driving on the highway. It only happens when I drive in high speeds, the noise sounds like my left tire is gonna pop out. No noise though in city or rural driving. Like before, I was told it was nothing. Wind noise also occurs when driving on the highway. Could it because it was made in Mexico?...read morehide

I LOVE MY JETTA! I had one back in 1997, I loved it! But it was a lease, so I turned it in for an SUV - NO COMPARISON! The big difference between my two Jettas are the overall appearance. I have always loved the looks of the BMW 3 series, and I have never seen a car come closer to appearance than the Jetta. Since my income could not justify paying the price for a BMW 3 series, I choice another Jetta.
I have had the car since January of 2007, and I have NOTHING negative to say about this car. It has incredible handling. The fuel economy was much better than the SUV. I took this car to Big Bear, started with a full tank of gas, and with all uphill mountain driving, I used only 1/2 a tank of gas. With the SUV I had before, I would of had to stop and fill up before starting up the mountain.
Like I said, I have nothing negative to say about this car - it is FANTASTIC and well worth what I paid for it. It is fully loaded and I absolutely LOVE THE CAR!...read morehide

I have always driven VW! I am a loyal VW Driver! I love the VW JEtta! It drives well and It is very comfortable, If you dont plan to have more than 1 child! The only down fall is that it only uses synthetic oil, each oil change is about $80 and then to change the filter is another amount of money! You can only chage the filter at VW locations and Its kind of a hassel to find time to drive to a dealer! Since it is German make it cost an arm and a Leg to replace parts! It is a Great buy and I love my VWS but, now that Im expecting my second child there really isnt any room in it for 2 car seats!...read morehide

Bought my 2007 about 5 monts ago. Bought the basic 2.5 (5 speed - love stick) and it came standard with ABS, Side Airbags, Traction Control and a bunch of other features that you have to buy the top (most expensive) competitors model to get the same features. My decision was between the Altima and the Jetta and the Altima would have been about 7k more for the same features/options. Took the hubcaps off and put on 19" TSW wheels, clear VW OEM tailights and had a in-dash Kenwood Nav unit (with Alpine speakers) installed and my little 17k ride looks like a GLI (just not as fast). Fun to drive, love the feel of the car. Sorta wish I got the 2.0T as the 2.5 is a little sluggish and not getting very good gas mileage. Only have 3k miles on it so far, but only averaging about 22mpg mixed hwy and city. Overall love this Jetta. Its my second one, has the previous generation and this is a HUGE improvement in all areas....read morehide

I love my v-dub. The handling is fantastic, in all types of weather, and its a lot of fun to drive. Very comfortable. Got a rear spoiler, 17" rims and in-dash 6-CD changer for under $20,000. A whole lot of car for a fair price. And the VW dealer in Stamford, CT gave me a great deal.

I bought my jetta in dec. 2006. The trim fell off, but I have not had any problems since it was fixed. Seats are really uncomfortable compared to my mothers toyota. Gas seems to go a little fast. There is a clicking that I can hear and other people have complained on here about it. I love the car though, it is sturdy and feels safe. No mechanical problems and I like how the oil changes are not done so frequently. Good buy for the money I got alot of options...read morehide

The 2006 Jetta 2.5 is one of the most comfortable cars I ever owned. All I have to say if you can not afford a Mercedes, think of a VW Jetta because believe me, it's fast and the look of it, feels like you're driving a luxurious automobile for the right amount of money.

This car is ok but I have always been a truck man but I recently took a job in Houston and had to start commuting so I bought something I thought looked good. Little did I know that I would have so many prob's with radio and the high cost of maintenance which is ridiculous. I never take my Jetta back to the dealership anymore cause they always try to get oyu on something that is not covered by warranty. I finally started changing my own oil and other things that would help me not go back to the dealership for work. I love the MPG and handling but that is about all....read morehide
