I love my GLI. The people who are posting(on other blog sights) all these negative comments about the GLI are like the people who sell their stock at the first news of something bad happening somewhere else in the world that has nothing to do with their stock. In other words they believe hear say and articles written by other people depending on corporate incentives. Listen I test drove many different cars in the sub 30k range and I was hard pressed to find a car I liked even better than my 97 Jetta GLX VR6. I narrowed it down to the Subaru WRX and the Acura TSX leaving out VW, Audi and BMW altogether. I left out German cars because I got caught up in the who smear campain on the German cars. I drove the WRX which on paper I thought was the greatest car in the world for the money. Wrong. Turbo lag, not so impressive handling and very cheap inside. I then set out last Thursday to buy an Acura TSX. I drove it and no matter how hard I tried to convince myself that the resale and reliability factors were enough to overcome its slowness and piggy stearing, I just could not do it. About to give up and just forgo getting in to a car payment my wife said "let's test drive a VW." So off to Camelback VW we went. First drove the Black 2.0T with DSG. I read alot about the DSG and it was one of those things that looked great on paper but you need to try to believe. It really was great but I have never driven a car without a stick and it just did not feel right to me. Then the red GLI caught my eye and of course the salesman noticed that and said "take her for a ride but be nice." Wow were we both surprised. We were laughing and smiling. This car was everything that I required for spending that kind of bread. Unbelievably large, tight, fast, quiet and actually more smooth on the Freeway than the 05 DeVille I rented on vacation last summer. The options are amazing too. This car has more considerate features than I knew were available in cars. I wake up earlier for work than I ever have in the past just because I am so excited to drive the car. I have already gone through a tank of gas and I got 25 mpg. I know this because the car will tell you on the display. 25 mpg not too bad for commuter traffic and the fact the car is not broken in yet. I found only one place on the web that lists the 0-60mph and they stated 6.7 secs but I really believe it is much quicker. That WRX still fresh in my mind is listed as 5.4 Secs in Road and Track and by feel this GLI seems every bit as fast. Not saying it is but it just feels so nice with no turbo lag. Did I mention rear AC. Not important to all but is in Arizona. I guess if I was going to say one last thing it would be that I am so comfortable in this car that I would rather be in it than even my own lazy boy. This car even relieves back pain.
