Write a ReviewThis car is a well balanced driving machine. I just bought my S4 in August of 07 and I have been nothing but pleased with this vehicle. It's subtle sporting looks keep the cops from noticing what it's really capable of. Most people don't even notice it until they hear it's exhaust note. It is a sharp looking car that is well engineered and well put together. You can tell just by driving it, or riding in it that they spared no expense in its design. I wish it had a little more low end torque but once I get past 3000 rpm, I'm comfortably in the power band and feel confident on the highway. I like to keep it between 2500rpm, and the upper limits of it's range because from inside, the exhaust note sounds incredible. I have long lusted after the S4 because it's different, sophisticated, powerful, practical (sedan/avant), FAST, yet great as a daily driver. It's snow performance is excellent with a good set of snow tires. I threw on Pirelli Winter 240 SnowSports and with quattro and traction control, I stay on track even in higher speeds. If I want to b reak loose and have a little fun, I turn traction control off and have controllable predictable powerslides in the snow. When it starts to snow around here, and all of my friends can't go anywhere because of it, I'm glad I got the S4. It's a 340hp Snowmobile in the winter, and a fast, surefooted sleeper in the Summer....read morehide

I've had this car since April '07 and it has been a blast to drive. Smooth engine, plenty of power and excellent comfort. I have had an M3 and WRX and the ride on the S4 beats both hands down. Holds the road better than any car I have ever driven. I don't understand people complaining about fuel economy - your buying a 340hp V8 sports car - what kind of fuel economy are you expecting to get - it's no worse than anything else in its class. My M3 average 18MPG, the WRX 19 and I have gotten 18MPG with the S4.
Interior trim is excellent. Phone controls on the bluetooth are a bit cumbersome but haven't seen anything better. Controls are light years ahead of the Idrive.
My only complaint is the position of the cupholders and the lighter. With all the cell phones, MP3's etc. you actually use the lighter jack and it is stuck behind the cupholder which is underneath the armrest. A minor annoyance for a car that is otherwise engineered so well....read morehide

Took delivery in March...fun to drive, can't wait to take on ski trip. However, don't like taking acceleration back seat to Evo's & WRX's. Couldn't wait 6 months for RS4.

I have had my S4 Sedan since March '07 and have thoroughly enjoyed the drive. My other car is a Corvette (2002) and the performance is comparable, albeit the Audi is definitely heavier, it is highly responsive and solid in the "twisties" thanks to the active handling, traction control and all-wheel drive. Obviously, I did not purchase the car for its fuel economy, but that is the only serious detraction I have noted thus far, and considering what my friends get in their sport utilities, with less performance, I think I made a wise choice....read morehide

8/4/07 - Just purchased a 2007 S4 auto with deep sea blue pearl effect exterior & ebony silver leather interior. The exterior and interior of this vehicle is absolutely gorgeous!!Now for the performance and handling: the S4 has the appearance to be subtle until you step on the gas and the performance is everytrhing you want in a V8, including the beautiful sound of the double dual exhaust pipes.
I have previouslu owned an E55 AMG, 740IL, SL400 and most recently an SLK55 AMG. The S4 is in a class of its own and overall has better performance than any car I have driven!
This by far, is the ultimate driving machine!...read morehide

Don't get me wrong-love the total package.Solid everyday sports sedan.Great interior;handles well and looks much better than the competition. The Audi engineers got the exaust sound just right-but I wish they spent more time on the engine itself. My 2.7 was just plain quicker with 80 less HP.Car needs less weight and more torque. But overall the car is a blast to drive and it does it in style....read morehide

This car is too much fun. A true sports car disguised as a humble, compact four door family sedan. The quad exhaust pipes and sweet sound of the V8 at 7,000 RPM reveal its' true character. People really don't pay it much attention until they hear it accelerate, then they are baffled.
It has huge, effective brakes and traction that will challenge your testosterone.
The manual transmission is a must. It allows you to drive the car instead of the car driving you. Steering feel is 9 of ten with 10 of 10 going to a Boxster or an M3. But these are different cars.
It has all the latest electronics and luxury amenities, nav, Sirius, bluetooth, MP3 card compatibility, glovebox 6 cd changer, memory seats and mirrors, brakes that keep the rotors dry when raining by intermittently cleaning the rotors based on rain sensors that also control the wipers. Recaro seats FRONT and REAR! Adaptive xenons headlights that rotate into turns.
True, it lloks a lot like a nice A4, but the V8 (and suspension, brakes etc...) puts the red "S" cape on the Clark Kent A4 and changes this car significantly.
I have owned 5 Audi quattros in a row. This is my first "S". You cannot go back. I suspect I will either own a future "S" or and "RS"....read morehide

I drove a 335i, S4 and RS4 back-to-back on the same roads. The 335i is nice, and not a bad ride even with the sport pack, but you can still feel the turbo lag no matter what they claim, especially at take-off. The S4 just moves forward linearly. It's very deceptive off the line because there is no fuss, no fury, just great power delivery. The RS4 was edgier, and while it has power, the torque isn't that much higher compared with the S4. So for a daily driver, on real roads, the slush-boxed S4 won out for me.
The interior and exterior styling is typical conservative rock solid Audi. No big rear wing to rattle the ricers, no big vents or insane rims, no "Hey Officer, please give me a ticket" badging.
Performance and handling are a blast, but you'd better set the constant electronic speed warning at something sensible, because it's very easy to overtake on the freeway and blow past 80 before you even really realize it. Put it in Drive and trundle along without a care in the world. Sport mode is surprisingly good. It keeps in the torque band, does a little engine braking when you ease up, and really is quite sporty indeed. Paddle Shifters are nice on the freeway (you can manually shift even in D), but stick with the Tiptronic shifter for reliable control when you go around corners!
You pay for this fun at the pump, but if you're going to whine about gas prices, buy yourself two Camry Hybrids for similar money and use the spare change to pay for your first year of gas.
An excellent car so far with great capabilities as a daily driver for the Pacific NW. Oh, and that V8 is a very special engine indeed....read morehide

Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this car. Lots of fun, great handling (minimal body roll), V8 gives a powerful growl and very attractive. Not to mention you don't see many around which is a plus in my book. However when I try and push the V8, I have a hard time believing there are 340 ponies under there. It is in those moments I wish I went with the M3 (or even 335i) or that my car would magically lose 300 lbs. The rest of the time, I feel I made a great choice....read morehide

My third Audi S and they just keep getting better. At stop lights I usually let other cars get the jump on me just so I can see their faces as I pass them!
