I've had this car for a little less than 2yrs and I've already had to replace the electric power steering. I did buy it used with 28,000 miles and it has (roughly) 57,000 now [I drive a lot], but still...For a car this young, this problem shouldn't exist. I have a friend who is a certified GM mechanic and he says the problem is more and more typical, so watch out!...read morehide

wow ok complete noobs most of you who own this car have never even raced a vet also everyone who owns this car over rates it. I love the cars cheap upgrade parts ottp stage one is = to intense stage 4-6 depending on what mods you put on it that is about less then 500 and it chops off about 1.3-1.7 depending on mods of 1/4 mile time mine stomps vets however i put in about 1500 bucks in a parts including meth and 2.6 pulley with a larger idel pulley the stage 1-2 from gm im not sure even gm even still warrenties them also they are over priced you can get stage one for like 75-65 bucks vs 350-400 and stage 2 can get like 100-125 instead of 350-400
now the car handles good turns decent not as bad as everyone said when driving handles good but parking turning is sloppy \
looks its still a cobalt but they jaz it up nice. i like the high spoiler vs the low spoiler however i think it looks good with out one at all makes it have a vet back which looks nice in my opt
tires that come with are nice 2a
Get megan exhaust everyone says no but just chop off the muffler and put on a different one for a better sound saves tons of money on way more over priced stuff
never had any problems with the car what so ever
This car doesnt get as great a gas mileage as everyone who owns this says and they know it to in city your getting prolly about 23-27 highway is where you get the really great gas mileage 32-37 but have gotten as poor as 16-17 and as good as 41 highway
car is not built for 6ft+ people like most cars...read morehide

I purchased my Cobalt LS Sedan just over two years ago and the mere fact that I'm still driving it tells you a lot about my satisfaction with this car. In the past, I've had a habit of trading my cars on a fairly short cycle. (I think I was one of the people keeping GM in business.) Now, I'm actually looking forward to the day when this car will be paid off and I'll still be driving it.
First, let me talk about value. The vehicle I purchased was the actual AD CAR. (No Bait and Switch at the dealer I went to, but I've come to expect that from this dealer, they've always been fair with me.) It was Chevy's 2007 Memorial Day Sale, and at the time they were offering a conquest rebate, a bonus rebate and 0% financing...once we worked out a fair number for my trade (never accept the 1st offer). After putting my GM dollars to good use, I actually walked out of the dealer with a lower payment for my new Cobalt than the car I had traded, and the loan was set to end at the same time!
The first weekend I had the vehicle, we took it to a wedding in Upstate NY...It drove well on the highway (75MPH+ on the NY Thruway or you'll get run over like Wile E Coyote), and had plenty of room for our luggage and the unavoidable shopping that happens whenever you bring your wife along on a trip.
I've had a few minor hiccups with the car, as may happen with any vehicle. With appx 4k miles, the shift lever wouldn't move out of park...with road service assistance, I found a way defeat the shift interlock and make the vehicle driveable again. I brought the vehicle into Cerrone Chevrolet (not the selling dealer, by the way). They swapped out the lever with one from a vehicle they had on their lot and had me back on the road in less than 1 hour.
Later, a similar issue occured with the emergency brake which would not remain engaged (but worked if you manually applied it).
The dealer ordered the parts when I brought it in for an oil change, and replaced it while I waited.
The Cobalt handles well on the highway, can keep up with the traffic flow at the speed I like to travel, and had good on-ramp acceleration.
In a mix of urban, suburban and freeway driving, my 4 speed automatic's gas mileage is consistent at appx 24-28mpg in the spring and fall. It goes down slightly in the summer, due to a/c use, and more in the winter, when I pre-heat the interior if its cold out, as heavy coats are uncomfortable for driving. The Driver Info Center gives a pretty good estimate of mileage, and can be used to modify driving habits and increase gas mileage.
Maintenace is minimal, the car even tells you when to change its oil, which the dealer will reset for you as well. The tires were dissapointing, as they all needed replacement around 30k miles, due to lack of rotation and edge wear. I replaced the tires with Yokohama Avid TRZ's, which are superior to what came OE on the car, especially in wet weather driving.
Overall, its been an excellent ownership experience so far.The Cobalt is an excellent compromise between performance and ecomomy. A few trips into a dealership to fix minor items is not a bad trade off for saving literally thousands of dollars versus many of the other vehicles in its class. One added bonus is that my Cobalt is also a PZEV. This means that there are practically no emissions generated by these vehicles, so I feel l;ike I'm doing my part for the environment in a cost-effective manner.(PZEV Cobalts are generally available in California Emission States such as Massachusetts, and work with the reformulated gasolines sold in these areas)
Hopefully the new GM will be stronger and build more cars like this one. We can't afford to rely on imported cars, as this will eventually result in higher prices, fewer manufacturing jobs, and less choice for the consumer....read morehide

I have owned my 2007 SS/SC for over two years now. It is my daily driver and I love it! I have never had any problems with it except the parking brake stopped working at around 20'000 miles. I took it to the dealer, they fixed it no problem. But that is it. Ive driven the car from TX to WA and had no problems at all. It was actually a comfy ride the whole way (Stock seats non Recaro). Before I started to modify the car I would see an average of 33MPG highway. I now have a header, Gutted CAT, and a Magnaflow on it and now im seeing 36MPG.
I love how the after market world has such a broad rage of parts for this car. GM even offers up to a stage 2 kit that THEY will still cover under warranty!! This car is a great car for any one looking to get a good performance oriented economical car....read morehide

I bought this car brand new in July 07. Needless to say I was a bit skeptical about it since I've never owned a Chevy before. Overall this has been a wonderful little car so far. Granted at 6,000 miles it should be. The few minor things I don't care for on this car were the blind spots on the mirrors making it hard to see behind you, THE PLASTIC EVERYTHING inside the car for the price it could have been made with something else. This does make for easy cleaning though. Gas milage is about 27MPG which isn't bad. The biggest problem I've had with this car so far and it's been minor but annoying, is snow buildup in the wheel wells. When the snow builds up it shimmys until the snow clears up. I took it to the dealer about it he said it's common nothing to worry about but it's annoying trying to do the speed limit and your car shakes. Living where theres tons of snow and the roads are always covered this car handles great even on icy roads. Starts in below zero weather like a dream heats up quick, The AC is a bit weak but gets the job done. The sound system is decent, one of my favorite features is the oil change calculation my first oil change is today at 6900 miles. The digital information system is fantastic, and the temp is nice to know when traveling to spots where you need to dress accordingly. My hubby is 6'4 and he's comfy in this car but not for long distances. overall it's worth the money. We will see when it gets up in miles if i'm still saying this....read morehide
