AC will not work in hybrid mode

Purchased it back in May of 2006, wonderful vehicle except for two things. When it gets very hot outside the batteries weaken causing fuel economy in our SUV to drop down to 27 mpg city and highway. Temps below 90, our SUV will avg. 30-32 mpg city and highway. In hybird mode the AC doesn't work since the compressor is attached to the engine. Just switch the AC to max (this will turn the engine on). We have 46,000 miles on the vehicle and ZERO issues. Tons of power when you need it and causes many heads to turn with questions about its economy. When we follwed the program guide (don't be a lead foot) we got the fuel economy. Yes, this vehicle will teach you how to accelerate so if you need to "mash" the peddle down then you must be loaded with money and don't need this SUV. OH, we allowed it to run out of gas and guess what. We drove 1.5 miles on batteries to the local gas station.
