I have had the vehicle a little over a years and put on 3ok Miles, This is the plushest ford interior of any ford I have driven in the last 45 years, with the exception of the old LTD Brougham's. Easy entry and exit, first class fit and finish. Miles ahead of the previous generation of the model. Vehicle could easily sell for 35 to 40k with another nameplate on it (ie lexus), Can't go wrong for the money. No mechanical or any problems at all to date....read morehide

This is a 2005 XLT Sport, great price used, leaks on axles and window motors covered under warrant to 36k. Then as I'd read about, the gas gauge is slow to recover and Fords fix is somewhat expensive as in drop gas tank etc. Well I read about Techron synthetic gas treatment. One 20oz bottle and a tank of BP premium and the gauge problem is history. Plus the injectors got a good cleaning. 4.0 liter motor has plenty of power you just have to rev it up past 3,000 rpm and she'll scoot fine. Great headlights and spots at night really light up the road. I'll buy one of these again. I don't know how I lived w/o a 4x4 for so long. When it really snows it's the only way to travel. You can keep your 35mpg econo box imports. I feel safe and secure in this rig on slippery icy or wet roads. I call mine the UAV, Urban Assault Vehicle. Ford Motor Company delivers the goods. American cars for Americans....read morehide

looks like a new explorer, feels like the old one. Cheep leather seating, school bus ride and acceleration, many factory "fixes" for problems they won't tell you about until they break. buyer beware.....go japanese.....no flatbeds involved!

This is our second Explorer, and while overall pleased (that is why we remained with this vehicle), our greatest satisfaction is with the dealer service.
Occaisionally the computer defaults and the gear shift will not move from park, requiring me to restart the vehicle and in turn the brake pedal release to gear shift transition. Annoying but not insurmountable....read morehide

I purchased a new Ford Explorer XLT 4.0 and have had NOTHING but problems out of it. In fact, its in the shop now, as it has been for over a week. I was reluctant to purchase this vechile at first, but loved how it drove on the test drive. Too bad I din't try to pass someone during my test drive. If you stomp on the gas at highway speeds, the transmission has to "think" about shifting and you are left with NO power to pass. All the sensors are GARBAGE on this thing, as they have been replaced at least twice in my 44k of driving. I am extrememly POD at all of the so called "recommendations" the EXPLODER gets. Don't believe me, ask your neighbor where his/hers is. Its probably in for "service". The extended warranty should NOT be an option on this vechicle. Purchase the 100k warranty for $2,000. At least then you'll have a rental car to drive (thats not a ford.... imagine that). Thanks for your time....read morehide

This vehicle drives well and has a comfortable ride, it almost feels like you are driving a car instead of an SUV. The dash and gauge cluster have a nice plain design. The design of the exterior is very good looking. The interior door handles could be redesigned and there should be a tailgate release inside the cab. The fuel economy is aprox 13city/18hwy with the V6, this is considerably less than the dealer estimate. I got 18city/22hwy with my '94 Toyota 4x4 with a V6. The rear cargo area is nice sized, but it needs bigger compartments for jumper cables, first aid kit, etc. It is also a bit difficult to see out the furthest rear window on the drivers side when changing lanes....read morehide

This is Explorer number 4 for me and the best one yet. I bought the XLT 4X4 with the Ironman Edition package including the heated leather seats, etc. Also got the tow package, 3:73 axle, Sirius radio, third row seats and auxiliary AC, comfort group, etc. Very comfortable vehicle considering it is a 4x4 and not a luxury sedan. Handles well and has decent performance with the 4.0 litre V-6. I was actually surprised that it performs as well as the V-8 I drove in a 2WD Explorer. (I have had 2 other V-6's and a V-8 and this exceeds my performance expectations easily).
No problems with the automatic transmission or the shift lever and the factory stereo is awesome. In fact, people agree it sounds like a high line aftermarket stereo and not a standard factory unit. MP3 capability, satelllite capability and iPod jack are pluses.
Traction Control, ABS, Rollover Stability Control, Front and Side Airbags and Intelligent Safety Systems all help provide increased driver control and improve occupant safety in the vehicle. That's important especially with higher profile vehicles such as this.
I was hit broadside in 1993 by a one ton van going 55 mph. The Explorer I was driving was totalled and I survived, so I have an affinity for these vehicles. The paramedics couldn't believe I survived the wreck and I firmly believe in the structural integrity of the Explorer. In fact. I'd bet my life on it. Maybe that's more subjective than objective, but I'm living proof.......read morehide

Very impressed with my first Explorer. I never write in these review columns but felt compelled this time because I like this truck. We upgraded from an Escape because of family and need for additional space. We looked at Mountaineers and Durangos and felt for the space and cargo, engine size, and comfort options this was a best deal!...read morehide
