I have had my base model 5-speed for 6 months now, 10,000 miles, and have averaged approx. 40.6 miles a gallon (42.8 the most/37.6 the worst).
I was concerned that a small 4-cylinder car would be slow and cumbersome going up hills and mountains, but the FIT moves up the mountains here in NC with NO problem whatsoever - I've even had to take my foot off the gas pedal to slow down when going up a hill.
As for snow, I have had no problems driving in the snow this winter, Good traction and front wheel drive kept me going, although the low clearance of the FIT kept me only on light snow or plowed roads. Knowing the FIT had ABS and safety airbags was of great comfort - should I have needed them.
With the great gas milage, good responsiveness, loads of room in the back and great safety features, I look forward to the summer!...read morehide

The Fit is a fun, enjoyable drive and a great value. On dry roads, it handles responsively. I have averaged 37 mpg, with a low of 28 mpg using winter gas formulations in the city, and a high of 45 mpg in summer with the wind at my back on the interstate.
It has great head room, and outstanding visibility all the way around. Also, for a small car, it is very roomy inside. The sound system is also pretty good - easily overcoming the road noise.
On the down side, it has no driver's side right arm rest. The standard wipers are cheap and don't clean the windows well. With the short distance between the back of the car and rear wheals, the back window never stays clean in wet or snowy weather. Because of its narrow profile, it handles poorly on wet or snowy roads. On low beams, the headlights don't provide enough forward-looking light to read road signs or provide any advance warning of upcoming problems. Also, the standard tires have a hard time holding air....read morehide

I've had my Sport Fit for more than a year now and overall, I love this car! It's roomy, it's fast when need to be and it's cool looking, I added some accesories, but even without them, it's a eyecatcher.
I bought for MSRP price and the value of it is surperb. If I would reccomend a car thats economic for work and have fun on the weekends, then the Honda Fit is the Car for you!...read morehide

OK,
here's my second review of the FIT after 4 months of usage.
1) This car is great for fuel economy on the road. I drove Montreal-Long Island on one tank. This is 700km with 42 liters. I did fill it to the rim at the gas station.
2) This car is cheap and currently have no mechanical problem.
3) The fuel economy decrease sharply in the city. With the same tank I can barely make 450km. I am a bit stunt by the difference.
4) I live in Montreal Canada and we got a lot of snow this year. The narrow body of the Fit is a bit an issue on icy road. The fact that the direction is very responsive and with a bit of snowy road, you really have to correct direction all the time.
5) High wind is also an issue. The high profile (which make the seating comfy for a 6 footer that I am) makes the car sensitive to wind. However nice handling in the traffic, very responsive. Parking is a breeze.
6) Rooooooooooomy. This car has a lot of space inside. So if you need a car with room and different config, this is the one. The rear seats in the flat floor position, I was able to put my snowboard with an ease not even equal to my previous VW Golf 2001.
7) Difficult to find a roof racking systems if you are looking for one. You need to make it come from England or France (Honda Jazz).
Improvement:
1) Body should be a bit wider for the North American market(they did that for the smart). Would have a better road handling.
2) Please, mirror in the sun visor of the passenger.
3) Check that engine. Gas consumption seams wacky in the city.
4) A better seat for the driver...
Recommendation:
If you live south of the border and there is not much snow in your neighbourdhood, this is a very nice car. It is even better if you do some major commuting without the heavy traffic. Because it seems as you do stop and go, it kills the gas economy.
I will stick to it for 5 years (I bought it). I am a cheapo by nature and this car is exactly what I was expecting. I am this kind of person who wants to go from A to B with a car. Not showing off....read morehide

I've had my 2007 FIT, Vivian (from the Vivid Blue color) since April 2007-7000miles. I liked that it was the 8th model year in Europa and Asia so all the kinks were worked out long ago and there are lots of aftermarket stuff available , especially if you buy overseas. This car can FIT in tiny parking spaces and When that big behemoth is in front of you, blocking most cars' ability to turn right, I can squeeze right past 'em! The seats and storage amazing, good sound system, especially with my XM radio added. I love Vivian and plan to run her into the ground! Only slight negative is that it takes a bit of time to cool down w/ A/C when it's over 110F outside........read morehide

I have had this car for about two weeks and so far I have about two thousand miles already on it. For the most part I think this car is the most bang for the buck, especially with the amount of standard options that you get for a Fit Sport model. So far, I'm averaging b/w 30-32 miles/gal mixed city/hwy and I don't have to shop around to save a few cents here and there for gas because it only costs about $28 to fill up. I have bought many new cars before and it is the first car that I always find excuses to drive just because it's so fun drive. I researched this car for about 3 months before buying it and I was very lucky to buy it for $200 above invoice especially being a 2008. I would recommend definately paying the extra $1200 or so and get a sport model mainly because of the amount of extra standard features that comes with it, again (most bang for the buck). It has the highest rating by Consumer Reports in it's class and won best small car of the year by Car and Driver for 2007....read morehide

So many pros that I will write all the cons first.
Cons: Great crash test results made me feel really good when I purchased it but after I purchased it the rear end collision results came in and was rated poor. I think the main reason for this is the poorly designed head rests. Honda needs to correct this problem because now I don't feel as safe for my wife because she is the one who drives it in rush hour traffic morning and afternoon in crazy South Florida. One other con I can think of is about the steering wheel mounted sport mode shifters. I love it and use it more than I use auto drive but the smoothness of the upshifts in this manual sport mode are not always smooth. When I shift during certain RPM's it is not so smooth so that annoys me a little. Also this technology concerns me as to the long term reliability of the transmission since I am planning to keep it long after the warranty. I expect 200,000 or more miles from modern automatic transmissions and will be really disappointed if I don't get it.
I like the grip shifters because of the greater control. It prevents unnecessary up shifts and downshifts and I use it all the time unless I don't want to think about it and in certain situations.
Pros: Standard ABS, airbags, cruise control, oil life monitor, fuel economy (33mpg overall), and smoothest four cylinder engine I've ever driven. After first oil change the power also increased significantly. (Maybe since I used full synthetic?) I love this car and look forward to driving it and I am 6'3, 215 lbs. We took a couple road trips and once recorded a stunning 44mpg. I suggest taking it easy during break-in like the manual suggests and you will have a long life of great fuel economy....read morehide

Averaging 32mpg overall and I'll drive quick but I don't dog it. Love everything about it. I can't think of really anything negative about it in my mind. Will look into someones suggestion of putting a 3M cover on the front because the plastic bumper does get little chips of the paint from the rocks. Absolutely great car so far and that's after 7000 miles....read morehide

My mom uses either a wheelchair or a motorized cart when we go shopping. The Fit is perfect for hauling either. I am especially impressed with the ease with which I can load and unload her wheelchair (upright) through the side doors with the car seats up. Much less lifting required than when laying the chair flat through the hatchback.
The Fit is also great for her cart. Many of the other manufacturers' hatchbacks have rear seats that do not fold completely flat. That was a major plus for me in favor of the Fit.
My compliments to the designers of the Fit's amazing seats. The configurations and possibilities are almost endless....read morehide

I got this car for my wife and she loves it. On the highway with limited traffic we get 33-36 mpg and in the city its 28-30. A little lower than listed but I like to drive fast. Lots of room inside and the fact that the seats fold flat is great for us.
