Purchased As Used
I bought my '07 used with only a few thousand miles and saved a bundle. It handles great and drives good. Nice ride. Tight turning radius. I've been averaging about 16.5 mpg combo city/hwy which is about the same as my Silverado with a V8. I expect gas mileage to improve after I've put on about 10-15K miles. I also added a K&N filter which seems to help mpg and performance. I skipped the Monsoon sound system and added an Infinity Basslink powered sub. It sounds better for about a 1/4 of the price.
I was hoping the MPG would be better but considering that it's an SUV with full-time FWD it's not bad. It's better than a Jeep or Dodge and gets about the same as a Colorado or TrailBlazer. Despite what some people say, it's much more than just an SUV body on a Colorado frame and powerplant.
My biggest complaint is that visibility is poor. It has a huge blind spot....read morehide

The H3 has been amazing... This year has been among the 5 harshest winters in Chicago of all time, but the H3 gets me everywhere I need to go with ease.
I have all the power I need. I wonder sometimes if people just want to bolt from a stoplight like a teenager or something. If that's your thing, great, but any SUV might not be your best option there.
All of the 5 cyl. haters might reconsider when gas rises to over $4/gallon this summer.
Most capable SUV? No.
Roomiest? No.
Best mileage? Probably not.
Least expensive? No.
Best combination of the above? Yes!...read morehide

I have owned Jeeps in the past. No one ever approached me (as they do with my Hummer) asking if it would be ok to take a quick look inside. It's a great ride.
The mileage could be a little better, but if you need a SUV this is the way to go.

I was very excited about getting my new yellow H3. That lasted about 3 months. It handles poorly in the snow and my heated seats no longer work and need to be repaired. I do not enjoy backing up due to the poor visibility and am considering a rear view camera. Pharmacy and ATM drive thru

Overall I love the h3 it is very comfortable and is very smooth on and off road. The turning radius is very tight compared to other vehicles. It is easier to drive and park than the H2 and better on gas. The interior very nice. Having an easy to access spare tire is convienant but if you try to open it on a side slope the gas strut won't hold and it will try to shut on you.
There are some minor issues with the vehicle. There isn't much storage compared to other vehicles. The cupholders up front are cheap and don't work very well. The gas pedal and brake pedal are kind of close but you get used to it. The rear seats fold down but not flat because the head rest are built into the seat. The rear window wiper only does a 90 degree turn when it could easily do 180 degree turn on the rear window for increased visibility.
The first thing everyone will ask you is whats the gas mileage. The gas mileage is comparable to most midsize suv's; not terrible like everyone assumes. The Hummer H3 is an offroad beast and still refined on road. I love mine and can't imagine buying anything else....read morehide

I received my Hummer as a gift from my Husband. It was a running joke in our house when my van (2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette) would break down, I would call my husband and tell him "I want my Hummer Now!" He would proceed to ask me where I was stranded at. So one day I was in the back yard & a man was honking the horn on the Hummer coming up the driveway. It was him.... I love my Hummer. I have never been stranded in it, but I was warned by Onstar to return home, when I just pulled my SUV out of the driveway. A part in the Transfer Case was broken. Kind of freaked me out that they called & told me to turn around & go back home.....Literally I was in front of my property still. I took it to the dealer in Indianapolis, and I was giving a loner for 2 days (Cadillac) which was not the same. I loved my Hummer, although the Cadillac had a V8 with lots of power and I was glad to get rid of. My family feels safe in the Hummer when going on trips. I kind of like not having the power of a V8 engine, because I know that I would be sailing faster 70 MPH. Which when your driving the Hummer you really have to watch your speed because you always feel like your doing 50 when your doing 70. The only con that I had was I am only 5'4". My chin barely clears the bottom of the window, so I look like a little kid driving. It is definately a conversation piece, with the younger generation. I have alot of teenagers around in the town I live, and everyone of them wants my Hummer....read morehide

When driving an h3 I get sense of safety and security awesome stereo system experience, large moon roof and comfort zone. however Acceleration and maintains of speed on high way is poor , I get 10-12 city ( no joke!) miles per gallon, Back seat is room only for 2 people not 3. If you live in country or go off road every weekend this is a car for you. If you live in the valley and spend most of your time in the city like me think very carefully. I had fun driving for about a year and now I feel like getting a large sedan. Overall it is a fun car to drive for a year or two....read morehide

Would have been nice if Hummer would have put a handle on the drives side, to aid with getting in and out, that way one would not have to use the steering wheel. I am getting 18 to 20 mpg. It handles the ice and snow up here in North Pole Alaska. I have had other SUV's and this one is by far the best all round SUV....read morehide
