Write a ReviewPreviously owned the Boxster S and 911 Turbo Cab. This is so much more FUN to drive. Purists may object to the weight but the engineering makes it work and you just don't notice. There's something magical about that engine; makes me smile every time I fire it up. The exhaust note is reminiscent of Detroit muscle, but it's attached to a transmission and suspension that really lets you rocket around. And I'll tell you there's something special about the first time you mash the pedal on the entrance ramp while you're already going 40 and you STILL break the rear tires loose. Torque is your friend and has been sadly lacking for many years with the exception of the Viper.
I bought a used '07 with 6,000 miles on it, saved about $30k off sticker. The first year depreciation on these is killer so would recommend that route to others....read morehide

I own a 2004 SL 55, AMG. My wife left me, but I still have car. Good trade. I have had no problems with the car, ever. But,,, I am mechincally inclined. It has substantial horsepower and runs like a roadstar should. Not boring like a Porche. This machine runs like a monster on the road.
Gas milage? Who cars? I paid $125,000 for my car and $100 to drive on the weekend means nothing. Cheaper and more fun than any date (which cost more and makes headaches).
Brakes are soft, but work great. If you own an expensive car stop complaining about the cost associated with keeping it. Its a race car and needs attention.
I would buy a new one. Love it!!!...read morehide

Love the car when it is not in the shop - the brakes are over engineered for reality street driving in traffic. The brakes build a glaze that squeaks louder than any dump truck on the road. Wheels and tires are sensitive to road conditions and very expensive to replace. However, when it works, it works!! Fast and very sexy to drive! Talking to a lemon law attorney now - which saddens me, but the shop knows my car better than I do!...read morehide

This car is a barn burner and looks great. It's expensive but for the performance I believe you get what you pay for. The ride is tight and responsive but not so much so you feel every nickel you drive over. Corners well with the suspension and high tires. Drawback is taking the car on longer drives over 3 hours requires some stops to work the kinks out of your back. Trunk is small but can squeeze one set of golf clubs. Paddle shifting works well and gets you to 0 - 100 mph much faster than automatic....read morehide

If you want ONE car that does it all, at close to the top of each category, the SL55 is the car. It has great performance, looks, quality and fun as a coupe or convertible. There are faster and tighter handling cars but at a major price to comfort and practicality, not for everyday. Even the SL65 doesn't compare because it lacks balance, it is too fast for the chasis. The SL600 lacks the driver involvement of the SL55. Other brands are alternatives but not the total package. EVO car magazine has rated the SL55 as the top performance convertible for about 4-5 years and in the Mario Andretti review of top convertibles , SL55, Aston Martin, BMW and Ferrari in 2003?, 4 of 5 of the editorial staff voted the SL55 the unquestionable choice with one for the Ferrari. The SL 55 is a modern clasic....read morehide

I've had numerous cars before this one, my last a 2007 Corvette Z06.
The quality of the Mercedes, along with the very good increase in horsepower for 2007, have made me smile every time in drive this car. The AMG appearance package really adds to the already great looking exterior. The most outstanding feature, hands down, is the folding hardtop. You have to see it in person to believe it. The mechanism is so awesome and easy to operate that I find myself driving more and more with the top down. It took me sicne 2003 to decide on buying this car, and it was definitely worth the wait....read morehide

Effortless acceleration. Only a handful of cars in the world can match the acceleration. Make sure to get specially fitted tires to properly handle the full amount of torque. Beautiful exhaust sound, and instantaneous power even from as low as 2,000rpm. Wide power band. Interior is very luxurious as expected from Mercedes...with AMG detailings....read morehide

Looks amazing and extremely fun and comfortable to drive. Hesitates ever so slightly in low gear before taking off, but when it does it's like a rocket.
Cons: You're better off with a map or calling a friend than using the Navigation system. Set up, location of controls, voice activation: It's all bad. Tires and rims are also too sensitive. I know they are a low profile "sports car" tire, but you don't have to hit much of a pothole or bump to crack or bend a rim. Cracked 3 in 13k miles. Finally for price of close to 130k I was a little surprised when I found out the hardware for satellite radio was not an included option and they wanted another $1500 to install it....read morehide

This vehicle is the only one in it class i.e. you have the choice of a hard top, full convertable or with the wind deflector in place it is now a T.top coupled with the awsome performance, superb handling and safety features makes for the price a unique all in one vehicle. The only down side is the navigation system, the one in my wife's subaru is so much better...But who cares if you get lost.!!...read morehide
