Better review other mid-sized cars/SUVs before buying this one. Clutch already needs to be replaced on mine. I plan to trade it in soon for a better built, better gas mileage, more roomy interior vehicle.

This is a follow-up post to my previous review dated 7/11/07: "OFF ROAD XTERRA 2007 - Very, very pleased!"
I have now had my Xterra for just over a year and have almost 18,000 miles on the clock. My previous review was very positive and I thought potential buyers might be interested in an update now that the honeymoon period can definitely be said to be over.
The bottom line is that I am still as satisfied and pleased with the vehicle as I was when I originally bought it. Gas mileage is averaging around what the window sticker said - I think it was 17-22mpg, the ride is good, and everything still works well - typical Japanese design, but you can also feel good about the fact that it's assembled in the USA. Additionally, I have found the multiple power outlets to be invaluable, given the proliferation of gadgets we have in our cars these days: cellphone charger, sat-nav, radar detector etc...not to mention charging the kids' games consoles and powering the dvd player! 3 outlets in front, and one in the rear.
So far the Xterra has been totally reliable and has been driven for daily commute as well as numerous longer trips of several hundred miles each. It just cruises the interstate all day long with no bother at all. My reflection on the Xterra experience so far is all very positive.
During my research prior to buying, I also test drove the Toyota FJ Cruiser, and a Ford F-150. The FJ was cool looking but with retrospect I am too tall for that chopped retro roof line and would have been peering out with difficulty at overhead traffic lights - as I have since seen other tall drivers doing. The F-150 (XLT) is a very nice vehicle, but on reflection it was better for me to have the storage inside the vehicle rather than in the pickup bed - would have had extra cost of bedliner and cover too.
So overall, even though I liked the competition, I know I made the right choice for me and I am STILL very pleased with my Xterra....read morehide

this car imported to canada with out any serious problems. the "oh god" panic handel failed but was replaced under the warrenty which transvered as it was a used vehical The acceleration is good. The back seat is at stadium nose bleed level but it does give a great view . The rear acess door is challenging to open with you arms full . the rear window does get dirty quickley so the rear wipper is used a lot. must have tie down staps for stuff in the rear...read morehide

This is a amazing vechicle. i have had nothing but average cars in my life. Everytime i get in my xterra its a blast. I just put sirius in so its even better. For a SUV this thing has some pick up. 0-60mph in 7 seconds. The only complaint is the gas milage. SUV's are notorious for bad gas milage but you feel it everytime you fill up. If the gas prices were much lower this would be my dream car. So much fun to take offroad. If your looking for a fun ride that looks great, look no further....read morehide

I absolutely love my 2006 Nissan Xterra Off-Road. I did research for three and a half months before I bought this one. I knew that I always wanted one ever since I saw the commercials on tv. That was seven years ago, I'm glad I bought this one. I really don't have any complaints with this SUV. I knew what I was getting into when I did the research on what it did and didn't have. For me, I knew I wanted a stripped down version of a Pathfinder with some rugged, sporty performance flair. This SUV succeeds on all levels...a year later and I'm still amazed, especially with the power it gives to the driver....read morehide

This is my daughters 2nd Xterra she had a green 2000 SE which we bought at the auction for her in 02 with 35,000 miles on it.She drove that vehicle with no problems until this summer the air conditioning was acting up so we got it fixed and was working fine car had 100,000 on it. We later bought her the 2007 Xterra the end of August and she loves it.It is grey with the grey interior and she loves everything about it.I drove it and must say that Nissan has improved this vehicle over the original model it has more room and the engine finally has enough horsepower as compared to her 2000.I like Nissans they make great cars that hold their value I drove an altima for 4 years and we still have it an 02 3.5 SE.I would not hesitate to buy another Nissan.I am driving a mustang GT convertible but I still drive the Nissan sometimes....read morehide

This is the sportiest looking SUV out there. The comfort and performance is outstanding. I really love it.
The only thing lacking is a good stereo system. I wish they had an auxillary input for my iPod. But considering that I got a brand new car for only 20K, I don't mind the stereo at all.

Only had it for a few days but hands down the best value out there for an SUV. I can pull a boat with it, trailer, whatever. Engine is awesome, not too big, not too small. Stereo is great. Very roomy. I really can't believe how over priced the other options are out there.
Very very happy....read morehide
