I have been driving my 5.3i for eight months and love it. The fact that almost all of the accessories available are standard on the 5.3i made it very easy to order/buy. There are a lot of Saabs in my area but have so far only run into one other 9-7X on the road. If you drive this car you'll find people checking your vehicle out both on the road and in the parking lot and will get used to people asking you, "Saab makes an SUV?" Bottomline, you will stand out from the rest of the SUV crowd.
The only major negative aspect I have experienced so far is the fuel economy. I'm averaging around 12 mpg around town and haven't gotten more than 14-15 mpg on the highway. I don't know if this is true only for the V-8 trim, but if you're in an area with higher gas prices and have a limited budget, I would not recommend this vehicle.
One other minor gripe is that the rubber seal/packing that attaches the center part of the tailgate housing the license plate to the larger tailgate is not quite solid but very sticky and messy like tar or tree sap. Evidently this has been found on a number of similar GM-made vehicles and although there hasn't been a recall, your local Saab dealearship will replace the part free of charge....read morehide

I bought my 97X ARC in 2005 when they first came out and loved the sleek look and all of the extras inside. I have driven 43,000 miles and have no complaints. I have more than enough power! The seats are comfortable. I wish there was an optionable 3rd row, but the back has plenty of room for a strollor and many shopping bags. I waited to put rims on to see if there was anything else out there that I might want to trade her in for in 2008, but I am not impressed with any other SUV for the value, so I just got my 22s and wow she's a he now! The 265 40 22 fit and do not rub!...read morehide

Bought this vehicle in Feb,. 2007, drove home in an icestorm, had no idea how bad the roads were until I got out of the car. Great in foul weather. I live on a mountain, commute about 100 miles a day to work, this car fits the bill!
It's not a rough and tumble "Humvee", but a vehicle that can get you through a snow storm. to the city and back again in comfort and stlye!...read morehide

Compared Saab to all other vehicles in general class and this came ou on top. This includes BMW, Lexis, Volvo etc. Comfortable to drive longer distances, good for grocery store type shopping, convenient and sufficient space for needs. Fairly large vehicle that feels solid and handles well. Handling is tighter than expected (a good thing) and overall performance is very good. Swithched fro Saab Vector 93, an outstandinng performer in itself, for space needs and am not at all disappointed. Highly recommended....read morehide

My wife choose the 9-7x, I had choosen the Volvo XC90, she won. I tried to explain to her that this vehicle is a GMC Envoy/ Chevy Trailblazer but she was not buying it. Beware, this SUV is a ENVOY/ TRAILBLAZER and that means it comes with the all the cheap interior trimmings, low hanging exhaust and the worst part is the terrible AWD. This system is NOT, I repeat NOT on all the time, it simply cannot seem to engage until slipping and spinning is well underway. That means that you will sit at the stoplight and spin the rear wheels for what seems like an eternity before you feel the AWD engage. I dont know what this kind of system is suppose to accomplish other than not preforming like AWD is suppose to work! So, after 20,700 miles we are giving the 9-7X to our local Volvo dealer and driving home an XC-90 V8. Spend 10 minutes driving the XC90 and you will feel that this is a very different vehicle, much more solid and composed. BEWARE!...read morehide

I saw this car at an Auto Show and liked it from the beginning. The 9-7x comes fully loaded with all features ; the only options are a navigation system and a dvd player for the 2nd seat. Buying this car meant no picking and choosing feature packages with items you don't want in order to get those that you do. The dash and controls are simplified--no large dials and no pushing of various buttons to get the info you are looking for. The only drawback is the 2nd seating area as it is somewhat cramped for adults. Plus, in order to put down the 2nd row seats to full maximum for cargo you will have to move the front row seats forward. This is an awkward step that can be further exacerbated if the "Easy Exit" feature is on. Your driver seat automatically goes all the way back when the key is removed and then tries forces itself into the back of the downed 2nd seat. That being said, I am enjoying this vehicle and am very happy with my purchase....read morehide

This is a great value SUV. The ride is great. The equipment level is excellent. The only problem is that the automotive press wants to compare it to Trailblazer because it's based on that model. It is very interesting that this comparison is made for some models, (Infiniti and GM), while Toyota always "gets a break." The press never complains that the Lexus models are "Optioned out" versions of the Toyotas, but when it comes to Nissan and GM, the comparisons are always an issue.
Other than the press issues, which really are only image problems, this SUV is an exceptional value. Performance is very good. Acceleration is excellent. It is a beautiful vehicle that dererves consideration of anyone in the market for a premium SUV....read morehide

It was mentioned by the person who wrote the above review stating the all wheel drive is slow to react. Read the manual and find the full time all wheel drive button on the shift handle. I would like to see some GM badging on the car and more advertising indicating it's made in America.

I like the SUV a lot, however the Automatic AWD system is no good. You never know when it is in AWD. In the snow ,around a corner, I can spin the SUV like a top. By the time the AWD kicks in it is way to late. Might as well be rear wheel drive. I would rather have the option( a button) of 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel dive....read morehide

I have had the 9-7 for a few months now and I really enjoy driving it. I have two children who comfortably fit in the back seat. The added extras like the nav system and the DVD player are wonderful. Overall, I am very happy with this SUV and would definitely drive another SAAB. The only complaint I have is the amount of leg room, which I feel was compromised, especially in the second row. Thankfully we have two small children who are not in need of a lot of backseat leg room, but it can be somewhat cramped for an adult in the back. However, as the issue of leg room is my only complaint, I think that I've come out ahead with a really great SUV that is relatively comfortable, drives incredibly well, and looks nice inside and out. In addition, everyone that we have dealt with at SAAB has been extremely helpful....read morehide
