Surprised by how many people complain about the Matrix not getting mgp as advertised. I believe my '06 was advertised as getting 26/31. I generally get 28 mpg city, and can get 30 mpg when I make an effort to not accelerate hard at every light or intersection.
I love the utility of this vehicle! Its like a small SUV, but with out the SUV price or maintanance costs. It also beats an SUV any day for getting equipment on the roof - I kayak and bike frequently, and love that I can get the equipment on the roof without any assistance.
Adults can comfortably sit in the back seat. And the high roof line makes the cabin feel extra bright and roomy.
I have 30k on my car, and haven't had a single problem yet. I've had this car 2 years, and still love it...read morehide

I overall love my Matrix. It is a 2003. I have only one complaint and only one problem. Mine is a standard which for the most part I love but the foot pedal is too close to the dash of the car. I have large feet and have to press it with my toes as there is no room above it for my foot to move up and the foot pedal isn't longer. I have developed tarsel tunnel in my toes due to this. Also the hub caps are terrible. Mine started warping at 50,000 mls. I have lost two and of course the first one came off just as the warrenty expired. They are about 70.00 at the dealership and of course when I went to complain they were just soooo very sympathetic to my problem. I have cable tied the rest on. Other than that great car....read morehide

The car is very good for taller people. It has great head and leg room. I routinely get 30-32 MPG and my dealer tires are still strong at 35,000 miles. I like the cargo room and that it rides high like an SUV but gets small car MPG.

We purchased our 2005 Matrix XR to replace our 1997 Rodeo. This car actually feels like it has more then the Rodeo did. Seat are comfotable and car rides pretty smooth. Just like my 98 Stratus it could use a little more sound dampening material. This vehicle is a good choice over a small SUV. It doesn't handle or ride as smooth as my Status which i went up a size on tires. Hankook brand is a very good choice for a quiet, smooth ride and have excellent traction even in heavey rains. The Matrix is on it's second set of tires. Car has a little over 50,000 miles and they are showing a lot of wear already. Tires for this car are not cheap and I'm disappointed with that. Toyota has done an excellent job on improving the comfort since we owned our 89 Corolla.
The reason I put Engine noise is if I crank up my Stratus 2.0 and Matrix next to each other. At idle speeds the Toyota is slightly louder. This level of noise will not bother most drivers....read morehide

I bought this car because it advtz it is fuel economy, but in fact my car only runs an average of 22/23 MPG. I called my dealer, he told me that if my car over 5,000miles then the MPG will go up. Very saddly, now my car is about 6,000 miles, and it still runs 22-23 MPG.
So I'm very unsatisfy this car! Another thing is the price is so unconsistence between dealers, my friend has an exactly same car but hers is $1000 cheaper than mine!!! Sad about everything of this car....read morehide

I LOVE LOVE LOVE MY LITTLE RED MATRIX! I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY OF THE PROBLEMS OTHERS REFER TO. MY MATRIX GETS AMAZING GAS MILEAGE, HAS ROOM FOR MY 3 BOYS IN THE BACK SEAT WHO ARE 15, 12, AND 10 AND MY 6'1" HUSBAND IS COMFORTABLE DRIVING IT. WE OFTEN CHOOSE TO DRIVE IT INSTEAD OF HIS EXPEDITION.
FOR MY FAMILY THIS CAR IS FUN, GOOD LOOKING, AND FITS OUR LIFESTYLE VERY WELL. I COMMUTE TO AND FROM WORK 72 MILES 5 DAYS A WEEK AND REALLY ENJOY THIS CAR. PART OF MY COMMUTE IS ON THE INTERSTATE AND I FIND THAT THE MATRIX HAS PLENTY OF GET UP AND GO WHEN I NEED IT. I ALSO LOVE THE HATCH BACK. PERFECT FOR HAULING THINGS OR JUST GETTING GROCERIES.
THE MATRIX IS NOT A LUXURY CAR BUT IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN ECONOMICAL CAR THAT IS ATTRACTIVE AND PERFORMS WELL THIS IS A GREAT CAR!...read morehide

The most reliable and enjoyable car I've owned. Great gas mileage is offset some by poor low end torque. I've upgraded to tires that are 1% smaller, making low end acceleration a bit better.
Also added Hotchkiss sway bars which really stopped top-heavy leaning on mountain roads.
I have a five speed manual and love it. Engine is too small good performance with an automatic....read morehide

I got it about a year ago and the only thing that is wrong is that you have to get out of the car to pop the trunk.
