I bought the car new and love it. I put almost 50000 Miles on it. I carried cargo when I had construction work and people were amazed how much I can fit in this little vehicle.
I don't trust driving it when it rains in SOCAL freeways. In general I get only 35 miles per gallon. I calculate my MPG using the old rule of how much gas you put into the car and how many miles you drive with it. The instrumentation gives me a higher MPG than actual and I think most of the people go by that. The dealer couldn't give me a good reason and Toyota didn't want to prove it.
Overall, I think there is a lot of room for improvement in the car but for the time it was introduced it was the best car for the MPG....read morehide

I've put a ton of miles on the car commuting up & down hills everyday - one of the best things about the Prius outside of fuel economy is that low level of wear on the brakes.

I did a review right after I bought this car new in November of 2007. I rated it as an exceptional buy. Now after 16 months I'm writing another review and I've only gotten to love the car even more!
I still feel it's roomier than it looks, has great cargo space, good leg room for the front and rear passengers.
Overall I rate a car on the basis if I'd buy another...here is a definate YES!
It does have a few creaks and rattles after 35,000 miles. Nothing in comparison to my other car with the same milage.
I love practically everything about this car with one exception...it looks like a pregnant guppy. To add some flair, I tinted the windows and added really cool graphics. Now it looks longer, sleeker, and not as bubbly.
I would highly recommend this car to anyone, fact is, I know I've helped sell two of these to family members/friends that would have never considered them until they drove mine.
This was the very first "foriegn" car I've ever owned and Toyota hit it out of the park as far as I'm concerned.
If you are looking for a great fuel economy car, not too worried about the styling or the ribbing you might get from friends, this is the car for you....read morehide

Just got an 08 Prius with the #2 package. Switched from an F150. Great little car, little bit of a learning curve but that makes it fun to drive. Owner's manual is confusing and sometimes gives conflicting information but there is so much info available on the web about the car that makes up for it. Technology in this car at this price is amazing....shows how far ahead Toyota is in this market and puts everyone else to shame. It does get blown around a little on the highway but not enough to be annoying. If you're looking for a sports car, go somewhere else, but if you want the most efficient, cleanest, most fun car for the $$, do yourself a favor and at least test drive a Prius!...read morehide

The first week in Janurary I hit a chuck hole and ruined the right front tire. The Bridgestone Turanza 195/55/R16 is not avaiable from Honda or Bridgestone. I'm starting my 3rd month on a donut tire. In januray the Bridgestone distribution area in chicago had 196 tires on Bo. Yesterday 3/14/2008 the local Toyato and Bridgestone dealers called again, no luck....read morehide

My wife and I have owned the Prius for about 3/4 of year and love it. It is reliable and has good gas mileage. In the spring, summer, and fall ( 50 *F), the Prius usually gets 52-48 MPG on the highway and better on lower state roads. In the winter (snow and ~ 10 *F), we see a drop in fuel economy to 40 MPG.
It is slightly underpowered and unresponsive for aggressive highway driving, but overall fits the bill. Rear visibility is a problem on this car so a back-up camera is a must. The camera helps but is not as effective as we would like. Also when the gas engine stops, it can slightly vibrate the car. It is annoying or surprising at first but we get adjusted to it. (We thought that the Civic hybrid was far worse) The cars style is definitely unique. The keyless ignition and entry is awesome, particularly on a cold or rainy day. This feature also prevents you from locking your keys in the car. My wife and I have tried different ways but it doesn't work as long as your battery in the transmitter has some power. There is an emergency mechanical key in case of any problems.
Ultimately with gas prices over $3.00, this car can save you some money....read morehide

Overall, its one of the best cars I got, not the best, except for milage, but one of them. Its pretty smooth, and for a small car, it sure picks up speed in a beat.

It's fun to drive this car; it's like a toy. Guess that's why they call it a "Toy"-ota. I never have to dig for my keys in the bottom of my purse with the smart-key and I can't lock my keys in the car. I get an average of 48 MPG. The engine is very quiet; the ride is smooth and it handles very well. It has sufficient get-up-and-go if you're not looking to triumph in a NASCAR race. I'm very pleased with my experiences with the dealership. A lot of little extras were included with the sale price.
A back pillow alleviated the driver's seat problem. The horn is kind of puny. It "peeps" as to not offend inconsiderate drivers, but I suppose that keeps the road rage occurrences low.
I wasn't sure I liked the look of the Prius when I set out to buy one, but the longer I have it, the more I like it. Tinting the windows gave it a sleek look. Now if only people would stop dinging it with their careless doors.......read morehide
