I've owned this car for 2 years now, and just love it. It's my second VW and certainly my pride and joy. She's never seen the shop for anything but her routine service, and she's actually on her road to being a show car! Such a cute lil bugger if you have the dub love :)

I'm not sure where the low reliability rating is coming from because this car has been excellent since I bought it in 2006 as an 07 model. The only MINOR issue is that one of my running lamps in the back keeps blowing the same bulb. I'm on my 3rd one in 45K miles. I'm not sure why anybody would pay $6K for a turbo.
Name another car that gives you power windows, cruise control, sport seats and a seriously solid ride for under $15,000. There isn't one....read morehide

I absolutely LOVE my Rabbit! I have owned it for about a year now, and it has got to be one of the best, lesser known vehicles out there. The ride is smooth, and the car is very zippy. My husband drives a Hummer H3x, and whenever we take road trips, we take the Rabbit not only because of the excellent gas mileage (I average about 25 MPG here in Hawaii) but also because we can FIT MORE IN IT. The car looks small from the outside and can fit into those tiny parking spaces, but we can fit more stuff in it than we can in the Hummer! Our model came with features galore, heated seats, 6 disc in dash CD changer, upgraded sound system, the works! I have had tons of people ask me about my car and for your money, there isn't a better deal out there! You MUST check this car out!...read morehide

This is a great car, Ive owned for a year now and it has had no problems at all. The old MK4 Reliability issues are a thing of the past with these cars. It has safety, comfort, reliability and great fuel economy for a 5 cylinder. My car has the 6 speed auto which is a great transmission with Sport mode and Tiptronic. The car also has a solid feel which is what made it so different from the Mazda 3 and Honda Civic. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a great car for a low price. The safety is also outstanding compared to other cars in its class. This car also offers tons of torque when you need it making acceleration impressive. Good Car, best bang for your buck under 20k....read morehide

I have only had my 4 door Rabbit for a little over a month but it is by far the best car I've owned(its my 5th car). It is my 3rd VW and it has the most features and best quality out of all 3 for sure. I would have gotten the 2 door but it doesnt come with the features I really wanted like a sunroof, satellite radio, premium sound and heated seats. I love the way it handles and it is much faster than my previous 4 cylinder Jettas. Granted the gas mileage isnt the greatest, but its not supposed to be some economical 4 cylinder...its a 5 cylinder with 170hp :)
I do wish they had optional leather seats. A name brand sound system like Bose or something would be nice rather than just a "premium" sound system, although it does sound good for factory.
Overall this is the best car I have ever owned and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun-to-drive great value car!...read morehide

After over a year and 20K miles, the rabbit still makes me smile. The sport setting on the 6sp automatic is uses gas, but downshifts well for navigating between yellow cabs on the FDR Drive or on a twisty road in Vermont. The suspension is exceptional for a car in this price range even over NYC potholes. The rabbit is holding up well so far. The negatives are 1) controls (it is too easy to bump the windshield wipers into action in the middle of a turn because the stalk is too close to the steering wheel); 2) the doors "spring" open so are easily dented. These are small gripes.
I'd buy another one, maybe a diesel....read morehide

170 torque for a five cylinder is not a bad deal. I've seen V6 engines with much less torque. I've put 15,000miles on the vehicle and two accidents. Not once did the car break down on me. The only thing that I found inconvenient is the arm rest. When you position it how you want it, it tends to slide back. But if you drive a manual like me, you will find yourself shifting 95% of the time and you won't need an arm rest.
Back seat is designed for everything basically. I've had sex on it, slept at a truck stop on it, caried basically anything that can be carried. My passengers reported it to be comfortable to sit on and gives them visibility up front. I do complain that it's called a "Rabbit" instead of a regular Golf. But if you are picky about it, you still can take off the rabbit badge and put a Golf badge on it to make yourself happy....read morehide

I've had my Rabbit for a little over a year now, and it is definitely my dream car. It doesn't look like much, but once you're in it it's hard not to fall in love with it. It handles unbelievably well, especially on windy mountain roads, and makes for an unbelievably fun ride.

Overall I am very happy with this car. The look and feel are sporty, yet it has a ton of convenience and safety. Very roomy. I recently moved my son to college in it with no problems. Great for city and highway driving, and handles winter driving conditions great. We find we drive it everywhere now as our kids are mostly grown. It's just so much fun and so convenient and practical. The 2.5L 5 cylinder give it great performace and acceleration. You won't be afraid to pass in the Rabbit!
When you compare it to other cars in this price range, you get a lot more for your money. The base model is comparable to second or third tier models from other manufacturers. If you are looking strictly for fuel economy, you may want to spend more money and get a Honda or Toyota. The lack of a center armrest is a minor inconveience that I can live with.
If you want a small car at a great price with great standard features, then this is for you....read morehide
