Just how far will our Aveo Go?

by Rob Lee from Saratoga Springs, Utah (10/10/08)
Pros:For a small car, great ride with minimal road noise. Much better fuel economy than rated. Parking!
Cons:Low on power to pull hills.

I bought this car mainly for the wife to run around in. Drives 75 miles each day to work. She also does a lot of running around for the family. Put 17,000 miles on it in 9 months. She loves it. I'll 6'6" tall and enjoy driving it too. Tall guys need cruise control like ours. Very glad we bought it. Haven't had any trouble with it except the tire pressure sensors in the wheels. Every car on earth has problems with them too. Gas mileage did improve after break in. We get anywhere from 35 to 45 mpg with an automatic trans. For what we bought the car for, we are very satisfied. Took it on a 1,200 trip and didn't have a problem at all with comfort. Ours is a sedan and has a roomy trunk with the fold down seat backs. People with the over priced Honda's and Toyota's can keep them. We are going to see just how far this little car will go.

Fun car and a Great Value

by Ret from Seattle, Washington (7/05/08)
Pros:Inexpensive to purchase and maintain. Fun to drive.
Cons:I hope it gets a bit better mileage when it gets broken in.

I am a car nut and read many of the car magazines, so I know a little about cars. I chose the Aveo because I thought it was a decent car for a great price. And, it is an American name plate. I wish we could make cars like this in America though, instead of Korea.
In three months I have a put a little over 6000 miles on my Aveo 5. Much of my driving is on highways, and over a mountain pass every weekend.

The car has enough power to take me over Snoqualmie Pass in 5th gear. Eastern Washington can be windy, and the car tracks pretty well in gusty conditions. The ride is fine for a little car and the seat is comfortable. I am 6 feet tall and legroom is adequate.
I hope the car gets better mileage with more miles. My car was a loss leader at the local dealership for $9495. Chevrolet had an owner loyalty program and knocked another $1000 off because I also have a 2006 Chevrolet. How do you get a car this good for a price like that? Even with out the loyalty program, this is a great value.

I LOVE IT!!!!

by Randy from Milwaukee, WI (6/08/08)
Pros:Great gas mileage, small size makes it easy to maneuver, nice high seating position.
Cons:Noisy rattle from rear hatch.

I've got about 3000 miles on my Aveo and I absolutely love it. It gets better gas mileage than its rated for; and for such a small car it has an amazing cargo capacity.

Disposable income? Get a disposable car!

by Brian Clark from Houston, TX (5/31/08)
Pros:Small disposable car with less environmental impact to do so than a large SUV.
Cons:Made by Daewoo and branded by Chevy. Aveos are well-known to self-destruct around 50-60k miles.

After pouring a couple thousand dollars into repairing my 2004 Aveo, my mechanic at Midas told me to give up, because he still couldn't identify the problem. This was at 52,000 miles. I towed my car to Carmax, and they gave me $2,000 for it. Read all about the timing chain, valve problems, seatbelt malfunctions yourself. It's all over the internet for your reading pleasure. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Decent

by Phil from Chicago, IL (4/23/08)
Pros:Solid construction. Easy to park, handling ok.
Cons:Door hinges look weak, MPG not very good.

I'm happy with the car. 08, manual trans. Very basic inside and out. Decent cargo area with the back seats down. Just put 10.5 gals in tank and averaged 19.62 mpg with heavy city traffic. Not the best mpg...kind of disapointed in that fact. Overall, I do not regret the puchase.

I like my 2006 Aveo LS

by Rick from Wis (2/19/08)
Pros:Price of course is a plus. Try any find a less expensive car that is as well made as the Aveo.
Cons:Needs better wipers front and rear.Alloy wheels would be nice.

Mine is a 2006 ex rental car with almost 50k miles on it now. Got it when it had about 20k and havent had one problem with it so far. Fuel economy is excellent for a 4 cylinder automatic trans at 34mpg on the highway. I did replace the AM/FM radio with an OEM AM/FM/MP3 player purchased from ebay and it works very good in a car this size. Plenty of power and acceleration on the freeway is not a problem, it really scoots along. This car replaced my trusty yet very rusty GEO Metro and for the price I am a very happy customer. Only thing I would recommend is replacing the OEM tires with some good aftermarket all weather tires if you live in a area where you get snow.
Great little car.

Best in Class

by Tom from Fairfax, VA (2/08/08)
Pros:Fuel Economy, Fun to Drive, Lower Impact, Maneuverability
Cons:Not an SUV

I'm 6'6" and fit into this car better than my Jeep Commander which I am going to trade in for another Aveo. My wife loves the Aveo as well. It also has great safety ratings which makes me feel great about transporting my children in this car. I recently took the car on a road trip to Vermont skiing and it handled extremely well in the snow. Granted, I have a lot of experience driving in snow and ice as I grew up in NE Pennsylvania, but I was still very impressed. The roads never had more than an inch or two at any point; I'm not advocating off-roading in this vehichle but I do thoroughly enjoy it and feel good about the cost and impact on the environment. Chevorlet seems to be leading the market when it comes to hybrid / alt fuel development. GM will probably have the first true hybrid on the road in 2010 / 2011 when they introduce the Chevy Volt. At that point, I may have to part ways with the Aveo....we'll see! Go Chevy!

Fun to drive

by Kevin from Marion, IA (2/04/08)
Pros:Great economy, Good Price, Fun to Drive
Cons:Basic package is basic. Radio could use a MP3 hookup.

With gas at $3.00, I needed something that got better than 19mpg.
The 1.6 with a manual is a great engine that gives performance on demand. The low profile and small wheels grip the road for quick turns. The car has a modern design that catches the eye and gives the statement of fun with value.
