This is my second P/U and I love it. Has the Deluxe interior with many functions mounted on the steering wheel. Do not get the GPS built in option as at trade in time you'll have a 4 year old liability. Get an aftermarket GPS of your choice instead. The money you'll save NOT puchasing OnStar's directions option will pay for most GPS Units in less than two years.OnStar is a total rip-off even the Safe and Sound plan that's free for a year isn't worth renewing. And they charge close to 30 cents a minute for phone minutes. Onstar also recently left it's analog customers (pre 2005) in the lurch when they switched to a Digital signal delivery. I've had the truck for close to a year now--the only problem being when you get the tires rotated you had better have it done at a dealership---not knowing this I had it done at an auto garage with my first oil change and the air pressure sensors worked backwards, very annoying....read morehide

Onstar cost too much for the price considering you can you can purchase aftermarket products that do the same thing. For example the navigation system. And you are in a contract.

As a long time F150 owner, I moved to the Silverado due to the media hype and availability of much standard equipment not available on the F150 in same price range. A LT1 is well-equipped with power windows, locks, etc. while the XLT is required to get the same in a Ford. The new design is much simplified throughout. The undercarriage is nicely done with all components well coated and painted. The wiring, cables, lines and plumbing are all compact and neat and have a quality look. Inside the engine bay resides a small block Chevy 5.3 that looks like an engine. The oil filter is starring you right in the face near the drain plug. The air filter is on top held by two easy to get to torx screws. There is a sheet steel air deflector underneath between the bumper and frontal engine area to cut down on wind resistance. Everything looks well designed and engineered. What can I say about the Active Mgt System - WOW!! Seamless and very economical at stretching out the gas. I am averaging 18.6 MPG and have not reached 500 miles on the odometer. What's not to love about the On Star and XM - awesome indeed!! Power seat is very comfortable and functional. I have the two-tone interior black and gray which is rather plush in the Buick tradition. HVAC controls are a bit awkward but system is super for cooling and heating. The 180 degree doors make this extended cab desirable. I think the pockets in the doors are pale compared to the F150 but a small price to pay for overall superior quality. I researched this Silverado long and thorough, and I believe I got much more for my money in the long haul. The GM employee discount along with the $5K rebate was irresistible. $21,632 for MSRP of $30,005 – WOW, what a deal!! Was back and forth between Toyota Tundra and Silverado. Went with the Chevy after the 2000 dollar owner loyalty rebate came out. Not one bit sorry I did! I love this truck. The Toyota I test drove with the 5.7 had more power, but the chevy does just fine with the 5.3. The active fuel management system is almost unnoticeable, and the truck rides pretty nice on the highway even without a load. I think the Toyota had more room inside, but how much is too much? There's plenty of room in the Chevy. My 2 kids fit in the back fine, although leg room can be a little tight. I've been getting around 18 mgh with about a 25/75 split city/highway. Just took a trip to the beach and averaged almost 21. Maybe it will do even better when broke in? Give this truck a look if buying!...read morehide

Recently traded in my '07 Ford F-150 after 6 months of hard work and the truck slowly loosining up with 175k miles on it for this new 2008 Chevrolet 1500 extended cab, 6.5' box, 4x2, 4.8L (294c.i.), automatic truck.

My trucks are on the road 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with two drivers, each working two 6 hour shifts per day and are only shut off for maintinance. I currently run a transport service transporting horses and cattle to private parties. I can say that this truck has held up better in the first 20k miles than my ford did in it's first 10k miles. Nothing inside the truck is broken yet.

The trucks 4.8L V8 (294c.i.) is a average motor with almost a non-existant low end torque and a super high pace upper range horsepower starting around 3750-4250rpms. If you can get it off the line with a load it'll be alright once you get her rolling at 10mph. The motor acheaves about 22mpg without a load durring break in process, 14-20 with a load in the bed, and 10-14 with a 4k lbs trailer.

The transmission is slow to go into gear, but doing alot of highway driving the issue hasn't really became a problem until there is a tight turn around on a hill and a dump truck coming around the cornor. The tow haul mode is great fixes what the automatic transmissions got a bad rep for. (downshifting, shifting to early and upshifting on a downhill grade).

The rear end is the posi-trac 3.73:1 rear in and is tight and trouble free and really helps out on slick tight cornors with a load.

The bed is cheaply built with just a few loads of dung, sand, mulch, a couple motors, etc it is scratched (normal), pebbled like it's been in a baseballed side hail storm and dented to the point of no fixing.

The suspention and brakes is what sold me. I was lucky enough to pull 4.2k lbs for 900miles in their demo truck. The suspention is lots tighter yet smoother than anything I have ever drove, and handles a REAL load nicely! The brakes fade is non-existant and stay firm no matter how hard they have been road. Another plus is these pads have already lasted me 23k miles (remember the only milage without a tailer or load in the bed was the 500 mile break in period). 23k is about 3k more than usual and the look to have another 8-10k miles left on them.

THe body is nice, paint looked good when it was new, road chips are minimal, the plastic in the wheel wells is cheap with both front wheel wells missing the plastic in them. The bed rails dented easily, the bumper is missing for lack of a better work "balls" and is alread dinted and the plastic is missing off the top.

The interior is extremely confortable, but for a work truck I have to recomend against the cloth... Especially the granit colored cloth. All controls are easily reached. The knobs and switches all feel quality built and tough. All 4 side windows roll down and the rear doors open almost 180*. Lots of pockets and storage for maps and personal items. No real factory cons on the interior except the trip odometer is hard to set sometimes and there is no trip B odometer. A Neat feature is there is a oil life remaining percental when in park, and a fuel milage computer when in drive.

All and all this truck deffinatly has the creature conforts for highway usage and the grunt for work, and it is safe to say this Chevrolet truck IS in fact built "Like a rock!"...read morehide
