Steve McQueen would have a tear in his eye

by 853 OKG from San Francisco (7/11/08)
Pros:Raw power refined to perfection
Cons:Has wheel hop and the gas mileage is horrendous

This car belongs on the race track, but has the luxury appointments and comfort that make it suitable for daily commuting. It's a thrill to drive something with so much power that is also so surefooted when changing lanes and rounding corners. And it looks like a classic Shelby. People stop in traffic to compliment me. Valets fight each other to see who parks it. Married middle age men curse their overbearing wives from behind the wheels of their minvans when I pass them on the street. The only issues are the wheel hop and gas mileage. And you can learn to avoid causing the wheel hop, but the gas mileage is the choice you make when you own a performance car with this kind of muscle.

Buy one while you can

by Shaker281 from Illinois (6/26/08)
Pros:Awesome looks and power. Can be daily driven with comfort AND power.
Cons:Needs a few rear end mods to eliminate traction and wheel hop issues.

Fantastic car that can make your everyday commute a thrill. Don't underestimate the power. What those who promote buying a 60's muscle car never say is that those cars are generally finicky, uncomfortable vehicles they hesitate to take out of the garage except for cruise night and to air out the stanky interiors. Hopefully, they don't need to stop quickly.

What makes a car like the GT500 so great is muscle car power combined with state of the art tech, safety and comfort.

I am appalled that Chevy Guy cannot spell "intellect". HaHa!

Super car!!

by CIMC Member from Des Moiones, Iowa (6/07/08)
Pros:Super set up for upgrades in power and handling
Cons:Needs to go on a 700lb diet.

Go for the charger upgrade with cold air intake, flash tune and Roush offroad exhaust before 1000 miles and you can hit over 600 hp and retain your warrenty. Also must go with one of the suspension upgrades to lower the front and rear for handling. Definately needed due to the extra weight the cast bock adds.

Overall a super performer that is hard to beat on the street. With the power and suspension upgrades, this car hits supercar status.

Down side. 1. Needs better seats. Not near as comfortabl;e as my 03 COBRA. The head rests are not adjustable. 2. Ford needs to do a better job with the overall interior. It doesn't have the cool dash and billet aluminum the Roush cars or the dash plate the Shelby GT's have.

Sexy but Powerful

by Sol from Hawaii (5/30/08)
Pros:Looks sharp and lots of power underneath the hood
Cons:Stiff suspension and annoying speaker noice

Love the car and the overall performance. Only thing that bothers me is the stiff suspension. The speakers on the passenger side makes this annoying noice like something is rubbing the plastic cover. Ford would probably do better if they use a better speaker system. Overall, I would only trade this car for a GT500KR. My convertible is a keeper. She's definitely a head-turner and eye-catcher.

Not Carroll's original car

by Tarkenton10 from Cedar Rapids, IA (5/27/08)
Pros:Excellent appearance and dash. vehicle is responsive and tight on corners
Cons:Not the horsepower I would like for rural roads. Carbops. Top could be better too.

Nice try in the age of the pre green car. This is not like my 68 350GT convertible that snaps your head on the shift and unbelievable good differential. It is a nice looking car, more solid looking body wise than the older, far MORE AFFORDABLE model that Carroll Shelby composed. Would like to see a more pronounced roll bar and sleeker lines on the GT500 like the KR's of old. This vehicle has great brakes and is fairly responsive and certainly a good purchase if you don't argue about the purchase price. I am afraid the muscle car era is drawing quickly to a close though so enjoy this model while it lasts.

AWESOME!!!!

by MYGT500 from NJ (5/19/08)
Pros:FAST!
Cons:NONE!

I own one & love it!! I get head turns every where I go. It has the handling & response that one would expect with Carroll Shelby's name on it. I can not find 1 flaw in the car. Where can you get an AMERICAN made car with 500HP for around 55k?? Plus it has a back seat so my teenager can ride with us. All I can say is see if you can test drive it... If you can, you will be hooked... And to all of the haters, unless you drove 1 you can not even give your opinion, because this car is all that and more! You think you are on rails the car is so fast & steady! Anyone who bad mouths this car I have 1 word for them, JEALOUS!!

The greatest mustang built.

by Redwithsilver08snake from Oak Harbor, Ohio (4/23/08)
Pros:Awesome power in every gear, 14" Brakes stop this heavy car very well.
Cons:Terrible wheelhop

With the exception of the horrific wheelhop this car has at the track, it is flawless in every other category. The seats are great and really offer good support for spirited driving. A lot of people on here complain about the dealer markups, but if your willing to do some looking you can find one for sticker as I did. This car draws attention everywhere it goes. As for performance, I have about $1000 in upgrades done to my car and I wouldnt be afraid to race anything out there.

Max Shelby

by rbawdo from Saltillo tx (4/04/08)
Pros:overall performance is teriffic.... it's response is different than my 03 Mach 1, t
Cons:road noise from agressive tires

This car with it's all out performance takes time to learn to drive, the 1, 2 shift will put you out of control with the massive torque if you are not on top of it.

Nice if you have a deep wallet

by Donavon from Denham Springs,LA (3/25/08)
Pros:IT isa ford, design is great, curves are smooth,
Cons:NEEDS LARGER BREAK CALIBERS TO HANDLE THE EXTRA WEIGHT ... AND SO ON...

Dealer market up vehicle to 57k, not to include a gas guzzler tax of 1300.00 ,( All Star Ford) in denham springs,LA)) . Went out of state to get it cheaper. car is heavy and rear slips in turns, exceleration is semi delayed, bearly hear the super charger. But over all a great gas guzzler if you have the extra money to spend on gas alone....
