Less power and yippee factor than I was used to (previously having a Mustang GT w/260 hp), but still OK, and much better mileage (25 mpg around town/32 freeway). Cruises comfortably and quietly at 85 mph. Fit and finish seems good. No problems in the 13K/9 months I have had the car.

Downside: I paid too much ($16,500), and if I had waited for a 2009 I would have gotten more power and better mileage....read morehide

The GLS is a very nice car, with all the bells and whistles anyone would want (heated leather seats, climate control (very quiet fan) sattelite radio, 6-CD changer, sunroof). It handles beatifully on the highway - almost like riding a magic carpet. Very solid feel, and very quiet at speed. The trunk is the largest in its class. The side and rear visibility when changing lanes are also the best in its class. We test-drove the 2008 malibu, and did not like the restricted rear and side view, nor did we like the shape - we are probably the only people on the planet who don't like it!

Our only complaint is the mileage, (we have the I4 engine) but we have only driven it fully loaded and in cold weather so far, and it may still be running itself in. The transmission seems to labour at about 70 km/hr when shifting gears - do other people have this "problem". Could there be an adjustment which would obviate this and perhaps increase mileage?

I had orginally a 1999 Hyundai Sonata. It was a great car, extremely reliable. I ran it up to 153k. The previous owner had ran it up to 140k. This car is one of the best values on the market. The base GLS comes loaded and is priced far below the Camry or Accord. It rides quiet and smooth, the 4 cylinder engine is much stronger and more responsive than I expected, it is very spacious, and looks great. I even had 32 mpg on the highway on a recent trip. The warranty is great, it has near perfect safety ratings because of its airbags and ESC and ETC, and its reliability is promising as Hyundai is making much better cars now. The only cons I see are the loud seatbelt alarm if you don't buckle up right away and I think the cloth driver's seat is too firm, but perhaps that is just because it is new.
