Purchased As New
BOUGHT PRE LEASED S TYPE AND FELL IN LOVE. HAD VALVE TROUBLE AFTER WARRENTY EXP AND TRADED IT IN FOR 2005 AND NEVER LOOKED BACK. IT LOOKS GOOD, AND IS A PLEASURE TO DRIVE. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY TROUBLE WITH SERVICE PEOPLE WHEN I BRING HER IN FOR YEARLY CHECK UPS. THE RIDE IS UNBELIEVIBLE. SMOOTH AND QUIET AND FAST. THE EXTRAS ARE COSTLY. WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE OF THESE INCLUDED. SO MANY OTHER MAKES ARE CHANGING OPTIONS TO INCLUDED UPGRADES AS STANDARD, ALONG WITH LONGER COVERED WARRANTIES ON THERE VECHICLES. WHICH JAGUAR DOES NOT. THIS CAR IS NOT CHEAP....read morehide

We bought a 2003 S-type 3.0 with very low milage. We were looking for a sporty sedan for my wife. I had some concerns about maintenance issues I read about. However, my sister had purchased a 2000 S type new and has had minimal problems, now having 80,000 miles, so I decided to take the complaints with the grain of salt. I'm a retired used car dealer and learned in that business that, with the exception of an occasional lemon in any brand, most car problems are determined by the quality of care by the owners. If buying used, take care to check more than a carfax. The forgoing not withstanding, We wanted all the things that appeal to any luxury car buyer without the new car depreciation hit. I have been a MB owner for many years and have enjoyed the MB quaility but, the Jag has always had that special look that set it appart. I thought with the changes ford brought to the electrial systems it was time to give one a try. A few thousand miles later I'm now a Jaguar fan. Sorry MB, the Jag just feels and looks better than anything else in the class. Great value in a used car, thanks to the bad rap (my opinion) the Jag can be had for thousands less than the competition for same year and catagory. I wish our S-type had a little more rear leg room but the size is what my wife liked best. After trying the others she said this one just fits me. What could I say to that. Besides I have a Tahoe so I can streach out all I want and she loves her Jag....read morehide

I bought a 2001 S Class from a used car dealer with 75,000 miles on it May 2007. The car had been leased by the first owner then sold to a dealer and then leased (you can lease a used car) to a second. I am in love. No problems. On long trips, NY to D.C. at 70 mph I average 28mpg.
It looks like the 2008 (dash has less electronics) and people stare, give me a thumbs up, etc.
The pick up (and i have a 3.0) is great. I will buy another as a second car but will look at a 2003 8 cyl for fun. he power !
I am lusting for the XF but will wait until the depreciation brings it down. Jag was sold to TATA Motors in India and I am very concerned about the future. Ford did a lot for the company. The transaction is to finalize 2nd quarter of 2008.
I love this car. Even though she is 7 years old. I want another and another and another and another......read morehide

I purchased a certified, pre-owned 2003 S-type from a Jag dealership in 2005. In the 3 years I have had the car: the remotes died; the engine light comes on and off on any given day; the headlights turn on by themselves in the middle of the night, draining the battery; the headlights flicker while driving (the dealership could find nothing wrong with the connection); the entire instrument panel had to be replaced, which took nearly 3 months. All of these problems were covered by the extended warrenty which I would STRONGLY recommend purchasing. For the sake of convenience, I had to put the dealership on speed dial. I would not recommend purchasing this car with all of the trouble I have had. It is definitley a car you would have to LOVE to drive, otherwise avoid it....read morehide

I love cars and probably should stay away from auto shows. I recently went to see the new XF in person and had the good fortune of sitting in one. This is going to be a great car. Yesterday I walked on to the Jaguar dealer and left with the '08 S type. WHY? Well, it's more comfortable first of all. The power is great and the fit and finish was better in my opinion than that of its competitors.
Great power for a 300 hp V8. That was one of my concerns going in, but this cat can run and is very efficient with those ponies.
I'd have to say, I'd be lying if I didn't get a great deal on the car. Jag's ARE overpriced as are Audis. The price is now right for the SType and the fit and finish are finally where they need to be as well.
This is a GREAT car.!...read morehide

I just bought an 03 of the S-Type 3.0 and it has been wonderful. I was looking at infinity, Audi and others when the dealer suggested I test drive it. Fell in love and bought it on the spot at a fantastic price. It's got very good power and handling. Couldn't be more satisfied!

As a Jaguar 2005 s-type r owner I have finally felt it necessary to point out all the issues I have had with my vehicle over these last 2.5 years. I will mention that have remained mostly quiet as I have had faith that my problems were isolated and that my experience was out of the ordinary. I also did not wish to devalue my purchase with complaints or revealing of the problems I have had. I write this note a service to all those who are looking at buying a jaguar or perhaps wondering if the new jaguars are more reliable than those of the past. These are only my experiences and I have not embelished them nor do I wish to slander Jaguar or my dealership (Jaguar Calgary) these are merely the facts. I purchased the S-type R new from Jaguar Calgary in 2005 as a 2005 Model Year vehicle. I signed on a 4 year lease term at .9 percent interest rate after comparing the operating costs with the AMG E55 and the BMW M5 both of which cost more. I chose the Jaguar based not on performance but interior comfort and style. I have enjoyed the car for the most part when it is running properly and I feel it is a better balance between luxury and performance than the BMW M5 or the E55.
In the interestes of time, I will mention that my car has been in the shop no less than a dozen times with a couple occasions lasting over 2 weeks all in the last 2.5 years. My issues have included (in no particular order):
1. Broken trunk regulator (This issue was present when the car was delivered and I identified it after a couple of months of my trunk "popping" open.
2. Squealing supercharger belt (this was looked at 3 times before it was rectified)
3. Tire blew out in normal runnning on the first week of driving the car ($450 for a tire from the dealer as it was not covered under warranty).
4. Broken switch on passenger seat control
5. Power steering fluid mysteriously low (I was told it had likely evaporated)
6. Loose bolt in the gear shift assembly caused the car not to start - car had to be towed to dealership.
