This is the most bargain used luxury car to get. Ford had a great idea to borrow Jaguar's image to create an affordable entry level Jaguar to compete with entry levels BMW, Mercedes and Audi since all of Ford's versions were too far from being qualified. The X type was the cheapest car Jaguar ever created that was way too far from Jag's luxury standard. This hurt the Jaguar luxury image and as a result, it has got many bad criticizes. But regardless of all, it's still a good car. Most users of the X-type have been very happy with it. My 2002 X-type just turned 200k miles last month and I had not a single problem since I got it new. With all standard options like heated seats, power seats, all wheel drive, leather interior, burwood trims, climate controle, one touch up and down for all four windows, CD player, sunroof, backup sensors, alloy wheels, ... it's obviously an excellent entry level luxury cars. The build quality and performance are pretty impressive, good handling, good acceleration, very smooth ride. The engine has cold air intake as standard design, and it's quite agressive on the road and does get many head turns. I tested drive some new Japanese cars, C class Benz, 3 series BMW, and Audi and still went back for another used 2007 X-type. It's the best deal car for the money in its range, an excellent backup for my Jaguar Super V8....read morehide

I have had this car for 3 years and never had a single problem with it. The ride is comfort and responding is quite good. The road noise is a little higher than my Mercedes E320 but still quite good, also the E is an upper class. 4 wheel drive is standard while at extra cost with others. The only draw back is the center console design which looks a bit under for a car at its class. Other than the center console, it's still loved for the distinct European classy look....read morehide

Having this car for about two months now, I realize that the only thing really like about it, is it's interior. It is so comfortable to drive in and it feels like your gliding on a magic carpet. but i kind of expected it to be more sporty-both the looks and how it drives. Oh well, its still a very good car that specializes in luxery so i'm still happy....read morehide

Under-rated by auto journalists, this car is agile, more than meets my needs for acceleration and braking, and the AWD makes sloppy winter driving easy. It is elegant and comfortable and has been trouble free. It's not a new design, and is going out to pasture soon, but it really gives a jaguar experience for the price of a camry or accord. Dealer attention and service is first-rate, you are really treated with care. If you are looking at cars in this size and price category, get one while they last....read morehide

This car's 3.0 liter engine is the smallest of any car I've ever owned, yet it makes more horsepower than any of the V-8's I've driven over the years. This car is absolutely beautiful, as well, and quite the attention-getter (Do not buy a Jag if you're shy & introverted!) This car made me fall in love with small cars. Ford fixed everything that was wrong with Jag as far as reliability & dependibility go. The only downsides are the 17" low-profile tires are vunerable to pothole & curb damage, and I really wish the car was RWD instead of AWD-simpler, less weight, and probably more durable. That being said, even without traction control, you cannot squeal the tires on takeoff. It has that much traction....read morehide

I've owned just about every sports car known to man from 9 Corvettes, 3 Nissan Z cars, two Porsches, a Ferrari and several American made muscle cars but now being in my mid-50's, I decided that it was time to find something more civilized. Doing about 3 months of research, looking at awd cars like the Mercedes 4matic, Audi, BMW, Volvo, Acura and Infinity, I happened on a review of the Jaguar X type. I decided to go test drive one, thinking that it would be a waste of time but was I ever surprised! The car handled well, was well appointed and my motorhead was very pleased with the responsiveness of the 3.0 engine. I ended up with the car, have 30k miles on it now and am happy with the purchase. The only thing that I have to complain about is road noise seems to be higher than it should for a car like this but for $35k, I can live with it. The Continental tires could also be contributing. Overall, quite pleased....read morehide

This is one of the most overlooked and under rated cars on the road today. It is a beautifully designed car - not a box on wheels. I have owned Camrys and Accords. They are very over rated, especially in terms of mpg and comfort and design compared to this car. Did you ever notice how you do not sit exactly in front of the steering wheel in your "roomy" Accord? - Bad for your posture and body alignment! The design and appearance of the instrument cluster on the Jag is much more appealing and is easily readable. Conrol knobs/buttons are un-obtrusive and convenient to use while driving. The cost of maintnance on these cars is also in line with what I have experienced with Hondas and Toyotas. If you follow the scheduied maintenance on any make of car, it may seem expensive. However, your car will last longer and you will avoid serious problems later on. My experience with the Jag service department has been excellent - courteous and professional. e.g. - I have never felt that I have been "taken in" by a service department that seemed to find the exact same "severe need for a transmission flush" on every car that came into the shop that day. This type of service trick is still used frequently by many Honda and Toyota service departments. My X-type is a 3.0. The car gets 28mpg the highway and 19 mpg in town....read morehide

Interior is very nicely finished, with two- tone leather and burled walnut accents on the dash and door panels. The car is really fun to drive, hold corners with virtually no body roll, and has peppy accelaration.
Overall quality, appearance, performance and ride are better than comparably (and higher) priced cars we tested....read morehide
