It's a CLK...

by Karloz of Sacramento from Sacramento, CA (9/10/08)
Pros:Lifetime Roadside assistance, seatbelt presenter, handles and looks very nice
Cons:GPS needs a little getting used to.

I love everything about the car. Just get as much options that suites you and you will see that it has a better value than most of it's competitors. Shop around and make them compete with each other, this will counter the effects of the reported depreciation. Mercedes comes with lifetime roadside assistance comes with just a push of a button.

Very good, but no BMW

by Zvi from Forest Hills, NY (8/18/08)
Pros:looks, ride on smooth roads, structural solidity, power,
Cons:a bit rough with sport suspension, horrible gps, shifting and transmission, tire traction

On test drives, appears better than true driving usage. Suspension and tire traction doesnt hold road as great as its competitor. Steering could be a touch sharper, shifting from start could be more seamless.
Overall, though a luxurious mercedes ride.

Great car~~~

by Mickey from California (12/04/07)
Pros:Comfortable, Accurate GPS, Power, Great handling, Barely any blindspots
Cons:Minor ones mentioned below

This car has amazing power and it feels very heavy on the road. I love everything about this car with only a few minor cons. First and most important, the glove compartment doesn't lock. I normally leave important things in there when I valet so this is very inconvenient. Also, with the ipod hookup in the glove box, I don't understand why there is no lock. Secondly, the interior room is very small. With someone in the passenger seat, I have to put my purse in the backseat. Thirdly, the floor mats are so fine that they pick up "all" dirt. I have stone interior and the next day, it was already very dirty. I got used to these flaws and I'm loving it.

Fun!!! Great handling and interior design. Bigger trunk than comparable models. The Ipod hook-up is a must have!

The Silver Wolf

by RLarryT from Marietta, GA (10/20/07)
Pros:Extremely refined and powerful engine - responsive handling -fit and finish is superb.
Cons:Can not manually shift - but what an auto transmission it has

I owned a G35 coupe before and thought it was quite quick and handled as if on rails. This clk550 is certainly quicker and faster with it's 5.4 liter V8. It does not handle as well but the refinement of the drive train and the fit and finish of the clk550 more than compensates for the lack of "rails". I have had the coupe for 2 months and have logged 4700 miles, about 40% of which is due to 2 380 mile one way trips and a 250 mile trip. It is an awesome car to drive around town or on the highway. The mileage counter was reset at pick up and the MPG is 21.6. Far beyond what I anticipated - generally 18-19 MPG for my reguilar commutes (25.5 MPG on the highway). I'm HAPPY!

I was unhappy that you can not really shift as with the G35 triptronic. The shift only sets the gear range until redline (or near redline). The auto tranny takes over and shifts to optimize acceleration; Wow! It does this better than I could do it manually. The engine revs so fast, and coupled with the smoothness of the tranny, a heads up display would be required if the gears could be shifted manually. (I do not think the AMG has this option, and it can be shifted manually).

The styling is very good and a 58 year old can be seen driving it and not get too many "mid life crisis" comments.

The seats are comfortable and accommodating. The side bolsters are excellent for me (6'1" 185lbs) and headroom and leg room are very good. The seat position range and the steering wheel/column adjstments are more than enough to have me fit like a hand in glove.

I bought the clk550 with everything except keyless go, phone, and electric trunk closer. The Nav unit is ok, as is satelitte radio. What is better than ok is the command/control setup and the operation of the steering wheel controls. Very nice.

I have noticed a large difference in the mileage with different brands of fuel. Exxon is awful (22 highway), Racetrac (25 highway) and Shell is the best so far at 26 Highway.

With previously owned cars, I can generally detect wear/oil breakdown after 3K miiles when rubbing oil from the dipstick between my fingers. At 4700 miles, I can detect NOTHING with the clk550. Had considered using Amsoil; I will stay with the MB recommendation and use Mobil1 oil for oil changes.

No rattles; No electrical problems; No leaks; No conplaints..... Just a lot of smiles and driving pleasure.
