ok let me start with the fact i had very high expectations for this vehicle. I lusted after it and stalked it for a couple of years before I took the plunge. The only regret I have is not buying one sooner. It has met every expectation and suprised me with how nice a ride and how much fun it is to drive.
It is very economical compared to other SUV's in the same class as the FJ but this is a Toyota, so it should hold up better than the competition.
My FJ has 4 wheel drive, automatic, and off road package which included the rear lockers, blistine shocks, and BF goodrich tires. Mine also came with traction control which i would highly recomend especially if you live in a snowy climate like SLC Utah. No hill was to slick and I could stop anywhere I wanted to. I feel very safe.
The V6 has plenty of power to climb up some very impressive mountain passes with four good size adults and I still got 20 mpg no joke. Granted in town I only get 16-18 mpg but i need to keep my foot out of the pedal a little and that would help.
Parking can be tough with big doors that swing out and the suicide backdoors are not that user friendly unless you have plenty of room. Backing up is made a lot easier and safer with the back up sonar that starts beeping when you get close.
Inside features like cruise, heating and a/c controls are easy to use and read. The rubber floor board and the tough seats are meant to get beat up and clean easy. back seats dont fold down quite flat but it hasnt been a problem yet.
I say if you see someone with an FJ ask them if you can poke your head in, most would be happy to show off their pride and joy....read morehide

The clutch in the cold winter day sticks. after sitting for a few hours when I get in and start her, the clutch needs time to warm up before taking off. Or when I drive and push in the clutch it doesn't spring back nice unless warm.

I've have now had my all white TRD special edition for a year. I love the ride, this package has updated suspension so it actually is comfortable on long road trips. Since I'm only 5'4, the placement of the extra tire in the back made backup a little hard. I purchased a backup camera that plugs into the cigarette lighter. Works great!...read morehide

This is the best vehicle i ever driven even though its a used one...its a beast when required and a car for everyday trips... everyday it looks different for me, the design is simply astonishing. Great engine and the best 4x4 systems between all the offroaders. i dont think i will find a better truck at least for the next 50 yrs to come...read morehide

I bought this vehicle a year ago in SC for the beach. I have since moved to Vermont and found this vehicle very practical for both locations. The sand was no match nor is the snow. Its maneuverability is above average in both. My wife is actually thinking about trading her van so she too can move about in the winter snows!...read morehide

Seat armrests seem to be a little close in/tight to the body. Not bad, just noticeable. Sportier SUV that is very customizable. Love the ride. Gas mileage not too bad. Easy to do most basic maintenance yourself with super easy. Very roomy engine compartment. Very roomy interior. As stated earlier, some blind spots 45 degrees over each shoulder, but large side mirror makeup for some of that. In addition, rearview window view somewhat encumbered by rear mounted spare time. Rear backup sensors makeup for this if you get it. Well worth it for peace of mind because you basically backup blind in close spaces. Works well....read morehide

I would recommend this car to anyone who commands the heavy off-road needs when traveling to remote places but still maintain a great comfortable ride under normal driving conditions. This car is of great value and with it's beautiful styling, will catch the eyes of many for years to come.

This vehicle beats the Jeep in power, ride and all around looks. Put the steel plating for rock climbing on it and the Jeep Rubicon is suprassed in all areas. It has a load of passenger room, two adults can sit in it side by side comfortably. The pricing is reasonable, even after adding all the bells and whistles. It is a great vehicle!...read morehide

Bought the FJ for a work vehicle. I need to go off the main roads over rocks in the Colorado and AZ backcountry. Goes where I'm willing to drive. I've replaced the windshield four times (about a grand a pop), from highway rocks. Thank goodness for insurance.
Seems to get deep scratches easily.
The FJ is a real off road vehicle, not a glorified station wagon....read morehide
