The car is very good on gas but not good on a take off. It is slow. Be careful on passing some one. Make sure you have enough time to get around them, not much of a pick up. Good amount of space for people and luggage. It rides nice and is very quiet. When the gas gage gets down to 2 squares on the gage get gas, It seems to get used up faster when you are down to the bottom of the gas tank and it shows you have 2 squares left on the gas gage. I think the squares have less amount of gas in them then the top of the tank squares. . . All in all it is a good smaller car. I never worry about the price of gas any more since i had this car.I took the car on several trips from Greensboro NC to NJ (over 550 miles 1 way) and it was a very enjoyable ride. I was driving 70 mph when possible. No trouble traveling at a higher rate of speed. Only take offs are slow. I was on a waiting list when I brought the car new for full price of $25,000. I called all over the usa and no one had one. Every dealer had a waiting list. I had to put up $500. to be on the list. The reason I gave reliability a 4 was because of the slow pick up for passing. Other wise very good....read morehide

After 15,000 miles I really don't understand why all cars do not use this technology. We have room, comfort, cool features (back-up camera, smart key, etc.), and 46 to 48 mpg commuting on Los Angeles area freeways. Even with a 60 mile daily commute, we only have to fill the tank once every 7 to 10 days! This is not just a great "green" car. It's a great car....read morehide

I paid more than I should have paid but the vehicle worth it. I bought it fully loaded, but it does not have the IPOD support. Aftermarket installation is rather expensive. I would like to be able to override the navigation system and the blue tooth because my shot-gun driver should be able to manage the system. Even with these unpleasantries, The ride is so quiet and smooth that it brings out all the little squeaky noises. Toyota was very quick and responsive in resolving the noise problem, but the rest ......read morehide

This car converted my husband to the "green" side of life. We are very pleased with our purchase and get almost 60mpg in summer, 53mpg winter. I love how the engine shuts off at stop lights and RR tracks -- my husband loves the pickup it has for passing. It's fun to watch how long you can get it to drive on 99.9mpg (it's like a game). I was sad to sell my 1991 Honda CRXsi, but this car made the transition less painful. We can't recommend this car highly enough....read morehide

When we first got the car, we went on a 3800 mile trip from Reno to east of Dallas-we averaged about 75mile an hour and for the entire trip we got 50.2 miles per gallon of gas. The thing that we were most pleased with was the comfort of the ride, it rides like a much bigger car and handles the freeway speeds like a champ.

Well it looks like i don't like the car but really i love it. After wanting a Lexus 350 RX well i seattled for a Pruis. -hum step down eh?- but the leg room in the back is great to haul elder and handicapped around which is a plus. Even the front has nice leg space and i don't feel like i am riding the ground like my other car. Lets not talk about the funny steering wheel but yes you get use to it quickly. The head room is nice as i am long waisted. Love the rear viewer. the sound of the radio , blue tooth is wonderful as it is the law in our state if we drive and talk. From the first ride i did 49 miles to gallon and i do travel alot.
Remember i said i loved the Lexus? well i bet i can put the lexus side molding on to protect it from other cars rude careless door openers -the doors are long so lots of room of in and out with ease. Oh yes a Bra will be bought as the hood is at a angle i bet i will get rock flys from the street.
One does have to have a honest mechanic i suspect to not try and charge you for this and that i do believe. Our newspaper warned us . Other then that I see many goverment and city cars turning to them for thier work cars. This in itself must say something!
I got no discount as they are to popular and it was the full MSRP but i didn't have to pay state taxes as it is a GREEN car. Yippie! and with all the safety things it is cheaper in insurance.
I have researched and the only times i have heard of battery being replaced is when it has been in a acident. I asked my insurance and they said they had one that some idiot took up in the mountains and it rolled. -i am the one one whom called that client a idiot FYI-
I rank it just good in value as it is spendy and about ten more thousand more then a car without hybred but then i am a Lexus fan so i am willing to spend.
Well I bought the cloth seats and i can see later they will have to be covered as i have seen thicker cloth...hum there is the Lexus thing again...and the faux suede on the door sides i have seen in other cars wear.
One might buy a cargo supporter as well. I see a good thing in them.
Over all i love the car and I don't care if i look like the rest.
The sound or lack of it is calming...the drive is great...the push on the button to turn the car on is odd but fun and i feel like i am in a space age car, Watch out world hear i come!
Honest i never thought i would settle for anything less then my beloved Lexus!...read morehide

After specifically asking for one, I got a Prius from the car rental agency on our recent vacation. The first thing I noticed is that this is a car you actually have to read the manual for....there is a bit of a learning curve involved in just getting it going (the agency thoughtfully left the manual in the glovebox). Once rolling, Toyota has done a good job of providing the "feel" of a conventional car, but occasional discontinuities in the power as the electric and gasoline motors do their thing, together with the absence of shifting with the continuously variable transmission, give it away as something not conventional. The first time you stop at a red light and the engine shuts off, you get a little nervous.
Overall, I found the 600+ miles I drove it to be a pleasant experience. I am a conservative driver, and was most impressed with the 48+ mpg we obtained both in city driving and on the South Florida freeways. Ours was pretty much a base model and looked it - there are not a lot of frills here. The front seats are comfortable, and there is more room in the back than there appears thanks to the theater seating. You won't win any drag races beyond 20 feet, but we did not get blown away on the freeways either and had adequate power to merge. You either love the body styling or you hate it.
My favorite feature was the multi-function touch screen display, which displays either the powerplant operation or fuel economy information, alternating with climate and radio controls. Our base model sound system was pretty minimal on broadcast radio; we did not have the chance to try it with a CD.
Oh, and did I mention you can get close to 50 MPG? Imagine going 600 miles on a 12 gallon tankful of gas! Why don't we have more cars than this?...read morehide

Love the gas mileage. I deliver newspapers on house delivery route and average between 52.5 and 58.7 MPG. I managed to get 60.4 MPG on two of my recent days when babying it. Big, big difference from the 15-17 MPG in my mini-van. On the newspaper route I can make u-turns almost anywhere I want.
At nearly 50 years old, this is my first brand new car and love it. Prior to making the big decision, we rented a Prius while on vacation and found we loved it.
Back seat area has enough leg room for my 6 ft tall son.
I could go on and on....read morehide

I never owned a new car before but this one meets all expectations for a new car. It looks good, it is fun to drive, it is great on gas, the sound system is excellent. I have driven through blizzards, down gravel roads, cross half the country and through a monsoon. Never, yet ever, a problem handling it or feeling confident that it could do what it needs to do. The brakes are a miracle and the hatchback, which I thought I would hate, has proven to be a miracle. Easier to get luggage in and out, more space to pack things in and the secret compartments are a gas. I have not learned how to use everything on the car, not yet ready for the voice-activated commands. But other than that, it is just the most fun car to drive....read morehide
