AWESOME PURCHASE

by CHRISTY from FONTANA, CA (8/14/08)
Pros:GREAT GAS MILAGE, SPORTY AND CUTE
Cons:I HONESTLY DON'T HAVE ANY

I LOVE MY 2008 CONVERTIBLE BEETLE. IT'S THE BEST CAR I'VE EVER OWNED. I HAVE A 2004 CHEVY TAHOE THAT JUST EATS UP THE GAS. SO WE DECIDED TO GET A SMALLER CAR AND ONLY DRIVE THE TAHOE WHEN WE HAVE TO. I CAN GO 2 WEEKS ON A FULL TANK IT'S GREAT. IT HAS GREAT POWER FOR SUCH A SMALL CAR. I LOVE ALL OF IT.

It makes her smile!

by lewisk5 from Louisiana (8/05/08)
Pros:It makes my wife happy!
Cons:Assorted Rattles

My wife and I traded in her 2000 Beetle Turbo for an 2008 Beetle Convertible. She loved the first car so much that she wanted a second one. We have 2 young boys and they love riding in the back with the top down.

The only thing that is bad about the car is that it has 300 miles on it and it has 2 rattles already. It is the curse of buying a VW.

Need Closed Compartments!

by Erma I. Bennett from Fort Lauderdale, Florida (5/22/08)
Pros:Excellent fuel economy, and beautiful!
Cons:Need extra compartments to stash away valuables and other items.

I recently purchased a VW Beetle Convertable. I previously leased a Mercedes Benz E320W and did not continue my lease for a few reasons. #1 Wanted to decrease my monthly payments, #2 Wanted a smaller vehicle, #3 Wanted to save on gas.

And with the VW I got all three.

However I find that I was accustomed to the many internal compartments that the Mercedes offered me as a woman. I like to have different compartments to stash away items that I may need to have accessible to me.

In the VW there is no place to put my spare change, that is out of sight. Also I was accustomed to compartments under my seat, however there is none in the VW. I know my "Gecko Green" VW is small, however I can see where allowances can be made for closed compartments.

I love my new VW but there is no place to stash my itmes out of view. I think it would benefit the company to consider this in the future and not overlook this area of necessity.

Makes us smile everyday!

by Richard Bernstein from La Habra, California (4/24/08)
Pros:Better then expect gas milage and now days--that's really important for us!
Cons:With top down--looks great, but can't hear the radio. Top up and the drivers side window rattles?

We purchased the 2.5 liter engine which has more zip then we ever expected. We took it on a cruise to Santa Barbara (California) wine country and drove over 375 miles and came back to fill it up with 12 gallons of gas! We ran out of room for wine boxes---but that kept us from buying too much! Everywhere we drove with the top down--people smiled at us and waved. Really a fun car and enjoyable and smooth driving at even 70 or 80 miles per hour.
Not much room in the truck--and back seat is ok for kids or young teenagers--but our 14 year old daughter --is already telling her friends that "this is her High School car". That is --if Mom give it up!
One problem with the top switch--it dropped into the control panel and it took VW 2 visits to fix and still makes me nervous. Oh well!
Our car is then '06 purchased with 11,000 miles--like brand new and we got the "certified warranty" which covers another 50,000 miles--so I'm feeling pretty comfortable that repairs will be reasonable for many years to come.

Ugly But Yet Good Gas Mileage.

by C. Montgomery Burns from Springfield, Illinios (4/19/08)

This car has great gas mileage, but the design is DISASTEROUS!!! I find the regular New Beetle was much better, and I hated that one!! Volkswagon should just go back to the old Beetle style that they used for nearly 50 years.

Beware the charms of a new beeetle

by tim from summerfield, nc (3/13/08)
Pros:pretty styling, roomy front seat
Cons:expensive maintenance, always in the shop

I owned a 73 VW super beeetle, 87 VW FOX....they were great cars!! but I bought a used 2002 new beetle for one daughter, and a 99 new beetle for my other daughter. the 99 has had 4 transmissions put in, the 2002 has had catalytic converter problems since we purchased. if it rains hard, the 2002 will not start, and the dealership doesn't even have a clue on how to fix it. these cars are designed for only dealership repair. lessons are learned hard when young kids are involved, but i will NEVER purchase another VW due to the expenses and unrelaibility of these two VW's. ANy body want to buy both of them??

Disgruntled Nazi's designed this car

by LJ from Long Beach, CA (3/13/08)
Pros:Good gas mileage, zippy, easy to park
Cons:Electrical problems, expensive repairs, shoddy workmanship, unreliable, worst car I've ever owned

My experience with my 2001 New Beetle

$125 to replace a front light bulb, muffler welds (muffler came loose) came apart 15 months after I purchased the car new and repair was not covered by warranty, interior started peeling, drivers side window fell into the door and could not be raised back up, interior lights wouldn't turn off, uncommon tire size meant expensive to replace tires, battery was placed under front fender flare meaning engine had to be partially removed to replace a battery.
Another friend that had a New Beetle had a sun roof that opened and closed on its own.

No car mechanics except VW dealers and shops that specialized in VW's would touch the car.

No wonder this car is always on the worst cars to own list.

I went back to owning a Japanese car after dealing with the horrible mess known as the New Beetle.

TDI Beetles are Great !!!

by Rod Collins, Bug Realty from Santa Cruz, Ca (3/13/08)
Pros:Great Fuel Economy, pickup, handling
Cons:It is somewhat small in the back seat but it is a Bug!

I have 2 TDI beetles (2006) for my Real Estate business. I get great mileage (avg 38 MPG) and have had very little problem with them. And the minor problems I have had the dealership has fixed with no questions asked. I am so far happy with mine.
