So, I've got a "woody" for this coupe. I traded in my '08 A5 on this incredible '09 S5. The A5 was a nice enough car, but add the muscle of the throaty V8, mucho sexy lines, and bilateral adjustable front seats; and, I was had! Got the Ibis White with sharp Tuscan Brown and brushed stainless interior, and every available option. The handling on city streets and freeway is erotic. The S5 coupe is NOT for the faint of heart... you'll get looks from the girls and the boys!...read morehide

I took delivery of my S5 (Phantom Black with NAV, TECH, B&O and manual transmission) on October 16, 2007 (first in the US) and have put over 19K on the car. Only issue so far was a fuel sensor replaced under warranty. I have brought this car skiing, on the track in Loudon, NH and Watkins Glen, NY and on vacation with three people. If I go to dinner it's commonly parked in front of restaurants in Boston. No matter what I ask of this car it does it very well, looking great all the time. It continues to get stares and thumbs up daily after 19 months of ownership. Interior ergonomics are great, as to be expected with Audi. Seats are supportive through corners and comfortable on the highway. At 6' I can even manage to sit in the back seat without discomfort.
Audi is currently building the best looking cars that perform well given their luxury and all wheel drive burden of weight. For an everyday car used for commuting or weekend trip to the beach or up a snow covered mountain pass, the S5 cannot be beat at any price. My only reason for trading in the S5 would be for an RS5 if they come stateside. If you're considering a 4 seat coupe look no further, this is it.
Other cars I considered at time of ordering/purchase were: Audi RS4, BMW 335xi Coupe. While both are good cars, they don't look nearly as good and interiors are lacking compared to the S5. Performance is too close to be a determining factor for me, even if the others may be slightly faster in some cases....read morehide

Exceptional looks, good preformance, nice riding. Great for long trips. After 13 months, I still get comments about how great it looks and you don't see many others on the road. All wheel drive is great in the winter.

This very fast Audi S5 is the best Audi that anyone with money can afford. It is an AWD sports car which needs a lot of gas. This Audi will grab a lot of attention. Maybe not so much like the R8 but the S5 will definitely get a lot of hot girls after it. The manual transmission really gives you the feel of the S5. The automatic will just be boring because you don't really know how this beauty drives. LED headlights and taillights just made Audi more famous ever since the R8 had them first. Now the A3, A4, A5, Q7, R8, S4, S5 and so many more Audis will have the LED lights. But Audi has advanced with their new looks and performance on the S-line models. Tons of people said that the 335i is better but I don't really think so because it is competing against an S model from Audi. But Audi S5 really can give you the comfort and speed when you are a passenger and behind the wheel. Tons of people said that the whole Audi console is bad because they have to press all these buttons which they don't feel like pressing. One day I will buy the S5 with magma red leather and in a nice silver or gray color with manual transmission. THANK YOU AUDI FOR BUILDING SUCH A BEAUTIFUL AND FAST CAR!...read morehide

I have owned my S5 for 15 months and, overall, I have been quite happy with it. The 4.2 V8, while heavy, provides more power than I will ever need for daily city and highway driving. As is the case with Audi's, the interior is well appointed, conveniently laid out and ergonomically correct. The back seats are suitable for small children but that is about it. In the road holding and handling department, the car is good but does feel "heavy" at slower speeds. A word of warning: despite the Quattro all wheel drive, be VERY cautious driving in the snow!!! The car is a handful in slippery conditions. Gas mileage, abysmal for the first 5,000 miles, improves as the car is run in, but do not expect anything over 14/16 mpg for city/highway driving. Add to that a very small gas tank, and you will be stopping at gas stations at an alarming rate. The brakes, in my opinion the best aspect of this car, are well balanced and provide good feedback. The car will stop on the proverbial dime.
While I have experienced a small number of niggly faults with the car, Audi service is exceptional and has been a great plus while owning this car. Small issues such as a burnt out running light, badly scuffed leather on the drivers seat after at less than 1,000 miles, cracking of the start/stop button and a couple of dash board rattles were quickly fixed....read morehide

The S5 is a great car. Outstanding looks, excellent interior, material quality and finishing; High tech, with everything to be expected from a Audi. When you enter this car, you just forget about the 335i/M3 series
The things that should be worked: A AWD sports cars is never as good as a RWD. The AWD makes the car heavier, compromising the balance due to heavier front; the acceleration and high speed performance besides increasing fuel consuption. Besides that, in my opinion, the big V8 could be replaced by a bi-turbo V6, lighter, with the same output or more, being lighter and faster, with better balance.
In general, when AUDI understands that the S and RS cars must be RWD, with compressed engines (compressor or bi-turbo), they will come to a position where BMW and MB will be out of question. This way, they will have lighter cars, with better balance, acceleration and high speed performance, with much fan to drive....read morehide
