I traded in my 5 series BMW for this because of the need for a third row and a place to carry a bike. I love the look of the car and how it handles. Per other reviews, if you don't like a firm ride thats very responsive, you probably should consider another vehicle. Also, the idrive takes a little getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, you will love it. You can control every function of the vehicle with your fingers withou moving your arm from the rest position. One last note, the third row seat is designed for small children and for an adult only in a crunch. This would not be a car for a cross country trip utilizing the third row for seating. Hope this helps....read morehide

Most x5 reviews here are too mediocre. People are not really doing a good job reviewing. So here it is.
1. Useless third row seat, not even children like them. All car magazines confirmed this.
2. The transmission slams into Park if a door is opened when the vehicle is in motion. I hope the sensor doesn't fail on the freeway. Otherwise, good luck.
3. Computer based shift stick can't operate in high humidity and cold weather.
4. Windows have opened several times when parked. I was fortunate it was in my drive way and not at a shopping mall. My dealer cant fix it until somthing is completely broken. So it is a mystery now. This tells me I have to sell it before the warranty expires. BMW computer is expensive....you know.
5. Again, when humidity is high or the temp. is cold enough, the everthing-is-based-on the-computer acts funny. The music player switches from CD to MP3 by itself. AC comes on by itself when the temperture is set at 78C. Tailgate pops open when it wants to..... you get the idea.
6. I almost forgot to mention, this thing weighs 5000 pounds.
I will be back with more in a few months.
thanks,...read morehide

I recently leased the 2009 X5 with a larger engine that most mentioned is a must when driving such a heavy car, and that makes it a lot of fun to drive. Like all BMWs, this X5 handles beautifully and looks sharp. The gadgets I am still in the process of learning how to use--make sure the dealer shows you how all the bells and whistles work! We considered the Range Rover, but the handling and sportiness of the X5 swayed us and we are overall very happy with our new ride. The four year complementary servicing also makes driving this car over others more affordable....read morehide

I love my brand new X5 3.0, from the space, to the sunroof that extends to the back seat, to the heated front seats, to the nav.. it is awesome.. and gorgeous... It's the perfect car for a young baseball mom...

I love the Navigation, rear camera, heated steering wheel, xenon headlights, running boards, smooth transmission. But about the "BMW gizmos" that someone said-- are you sure you aren't talking about the Acura MDX dashboard that looks like an old Aiwa boombox? This car is a dream to drive, it is not too heavy, try hitting the gas pedal! The appearance, handling, comfort and value of this car are superb. It has the same fuel economy as other mid-sized SUVs, if that is what you care about then get a Civic but don't be angry about the X5. People only drive the MDX, Volvo, or Audi because they're cheaper than the X5, let's be honest....read morehide

after driving my x5 for the first time to Las Vegas I was so amaze, the drive, the smoothness, the comfort, etc. I drove all the way to Vegas and did'nt even get tired. I've driven my friends SUV (Pilot,NSX,Denali and Toyota SR5) this suv has no comparison, some might be cheaper but some are more expensive too. I give this SAV a 5 star review...read morehide

BMW is full of annyoing gizmos and yet it ignores the basic equipment.
* With the headlighs on, if you tried to drive it off and didnt close a door properly, the tranmission would jam into Park and gives you a big jolt. With the headlights off, it just gives you a Message "Secure the vehicle against rolling" and it doesnt tell you which door is not close. If a passenger didnt close a door properly, left and you are alone, you have to get out to check all the doors. If it was raning or snowing....... Well, so much for BMW as a luxury brand.
This is just one of the many advanced silly feature in the X5 3.0.
Speaking of being overweight, I removed everything that I can from the car, like the spare/tools, both front and rear passanger seats, all door panels, cargo screen, headliner...you get the idea. Well, the car is still overweight. I only drive myself and nothing else. I planned a trip from L.A. to Las Vegas but cancelled it. I didnt want to be overun by little CRVs or RAV 4s. They are X5 killers.
If you like the X5, that's because you want to be seen in it and show it off. That's all. Nothing else. This X5 is a loser in all major car magazines. I am selling it and wont even look at another gizmo crazy BMW. By the way, there is no oil dip stick. You have to turn on the engine and drive about two miles before the i-screen tells you how much engine oil you have. If you have to add more, you have to shut it off, add oil, turn it on, drive two miles. But then, if you say, it has 4 year free maintenace. Well, what do you do after the four years? A BMW is only good for leasing and not anything else. I'll be back....read morehide

I just bought this car and it is absolutely gorgeous! I live in Germany and have driven it on the autoban several times and cant say that it doesnt keep up. It may be heavy but it drives beautifully in the snow. I love it and would recomend it to anyone. 3rd row seats may be a little tight so if you dont plan on putting kids back there dont even bother....read morehide
