good car but not the best in class. Rough riding, sluggish with the 3.0 engine, feels heavy and it is heavy

I purchased the X5 fully loaded in 03 and absolutely loved the vehicle. When I test drove the 09' I was amazed at how much they have improved on it. I purchased the fully loaded 3.0 with third row seating and this vehicle is the best drive out of all the cars I own. I currently own a 08 E350, 09 Porsche Boxster and a 2000 Toyota Solara. I am very meticulous about my purchases so I test drove the X5 about 12 times, the Range Rover Sport 12 times and the Porsche Cayenne 10 times. I also test drove the Mercedes GLK and Lexus SUV's but they are not in the class of the ladder three. The Range Rover is very nice but you cant flip the rear seats down and still drive comfortably unless your under 5'2". The City driving is above average and Highway is good. There are too many transmission problems reported on the car so that was an eye opener. The Cayenne is over priced. The acceleration is without equal but the city drive was not comfortable. In fact it made my 16 year old car sick while sitting in the back seat after only a 15 minute cruise. The interior design is nice in all three but I would have to give the edge to the BMW. The BMW drive is without equal although its not a Porsche when it comes to acceleration its drive is so smooth and handling really lives up to its "ultimate driving machine" image. The car is very easy to use even with all of its technological gadgets. For those who say the Navigation is hard to use I must say, if this is hard don't buy an ipod or blackberry. Nonetheless, after research and comparing the warranties (BMW's is obviously far better) the BMW is hands down the best SUV for the money. If you are solely based on looks then go Range Rover and if you just want to drive really really fast go with the Porsche....read morehide

I have done some research, comparison and test drive before I purchase this baby I knew then right away that this is the one I like It is a SAV so I won't expect this baby to be as agressive as the other BMW, 335, the M series or the 6 series, you got my point, and this is not light either its a truck! I drove 320 miles every Saturday at 80 mph and still have 100 more miles to go. the manual mode is pretty agressive so I hardly use that but I use the sport mode for passing. this vehicle is great in cornering and very smooth, you won't even know that you reach 100 mph. The i-drive once you get the hang of it, it'll serve like another knob on your dash board. This car is so amazing it gives me satisfaction me on the autobahn, narrow back road and traffic here in Germany. I love this vehicle....read morehide

This is my third one 2002, 2006 and 2008, 10.000 miles on it, not a single bug or problem, I love the stylish looks of it, remarkable stable on wet roads,
comfortable ride, on long trips, if you don`t push to hard, can do over 30 miles per gallon...

I love my brand new X5 3.0, from the space, to the sunroof that extends to the back seat, to the heated front seats, to the nav.. it is awesome.. and gorgeous... It's the perfect car for a young baseball mom...

I love the Navigation, rear camera, heated steering wheel, xenon headlights, running boards, smooth transmission. But about the "BMW gizmos" that someone said-- are you sure you aren't talking about the Acura MDX dashboard that looks like an old Aiwa boombox? This car is a dream to drive, it is not too heavy, try hitting the gas pedal! The appearance, handling, comfort and value of this car are superb. It has the same fuel economy as other mid-sized SUVs, if that is what you care about then get a Civic but don't be angry about the X5. People only drive the MDX, Volvo, or Audi because they're cheaper than the X5, let's be honest....read morehide

after driving my x5 for the first time to Las Vegas I was so amaze, the drive, the smoothness, the comfort, etc. I drove all the way to Vegas and did'nt even get tired. I've driven my friends SUV (Pilot,NSX,Denali and Toyota SR5) this suv has no comparison, some might be cheaper but some are more expensive too. I give this SAV a 5 star review...read morehide

I actually rely a lot on this SUV and it has proved its worth. I've driven the thing about 7 or 8 times from the Bay Area to Los Angeles in a 6 week time-span and for so much punishment I've dealt the car, maintaining it has actually been simple, a oil change here, a tune-up there. Besides the mileage, the car is able to maintain its performance remarkably well no matter how hard you push it and I-% isn't exactly the smoothest freeway to drive on. It may be a little heavy, but a full tank can get you close to 500 miles using a range meter. The complaints I've been hearing from other owners such as sluggishness, weight, lack of horsepower hasn't really been an issue with me. Of course my driving conditions differ from them. Holds up great in bad weather too....read morehide
