This vehicle is so underpowered it has trouble getting out of its own way. Gas mileage is just sad. You have to plant the gas to the floor to go anywhere and this just sucks the gas up. It is small, compact car like. The nets on the back of the seats are barely big enough to hold a tissue, let alone anything of substance. To call this car a hybrid is a joke, the only time the car engine shuts down is when I turn the car off. There have been no reliability issues, yet. And what is up with NO Spare Tire? Cost cutting? Give me a break....read morehide

The Malibu hybrid seemed like a solid choice on the lot and test drive, but since I bought it we've had one problem after another - some quickly fixed and some still not fixed many months later. The quality of the interior does not wear well, and we've had some annoying rattling develop that the deal has been unable to solve. The intermittent wipers work only intermittently - maybe once every three or four rainy trips it'll work, otherwise we have to set it on low or high continuous. The automatic transmission began shifting oddly and the dealer oddly enough found that the ignition control computer was fried and the engine was not running correctly as a result and that caused the shifting problem. This car has been a series of little and sometimes big problems, and with only 14,000 miles under our belt, I am worried because things seem to be getting worse. Some of the interior controls are developing stickiness or in one case slack, and we're getting a dead spot in the steering - you can turn the wheel 1/4 to 1/3 of a turn (effortlessly!) before it actually starts to change the steering and you notice a little road feel coming back. The dealer has been great and tried to solve the rattling several times without success, but not for lack of trying. Love the dealer - hate the car....read morehide

Following a 30 minute test drive I was sold on this car. Long wheel base, 4-disc brakes and responsive suspension make this car fun to drive. At cruising speeds I can get 38+ mpg (more if I stay within 'sweetspot' speeds). City mpg 25 and up depending on habits. Auto stop feature makes for zen moments in traffic. A class apart from the prius, the malibu hybrid is a safe economical family car....read morehide

City mpg is a bit low campared to non-hyrid and hybrid competitors. Needs a bit more HP for hill climbs.

I had a near new Honda and previous cars Hondas and Toyota. I congradulate GM on a very fine job with the Malibu; I should point out the the 009 version has imporved baterry to up milage more; So far in local area driving I am gettin around 32 MPG and on Highway one shoud be able to get 40 (no joke). You have a certain amount of control with the instant fuel consumtion monitorl. Start at 60 mph and see how your milage is, if you want to bump it to 70 see how that goes. The handling and brakes are excellent, and the styling is very nice too. Richard...read morehide

26 city/34 hwy is awesome for a car of this size and practicality. The interior is super comfortable and reflective of a car this much more expensive. GM has hit a homerun with this vehicle.
