Bought a 08 a week ago and am very impressed with the autodrive, handling and comfort. This is a substantial vehicle but worth the occasional squeeze through traffic. The LTZ has every conceivable componant and roomy rear seats fold down to be anything you want...a futon mattress makes it a place to lie down or an indestructible dog carrier. Huge bed with folding trunk for tall things can be accessed through rear cab. My die hard foreign car son looked in vain for something to critcize and finally admitted it looked good. You can track your fuel use with the fuel economy component and it's actually better than our Honda Pilot. I heard 09's had the 6 speed the 08 is lacking. No regrets....read morehide

I own a 2002 Chevy Avalanche and in 76,000 miles I haven't had any serious problems with it. Their very nice vehicles that will work well for the SUV consumer that needs more utility. The folding mid-gate is an innovative feature that pays for itself. Driving with the windows down and the rear window pulled is refreshing and is a reminder of the old K5 Blazer of the 1980's.
There are a couple of things I'm not happy about with the design. The Avalanche is not really a truck, but is an SUV designed to look like a truck. The bed covers do a great job at keeping the contents underneath dry, but are known to leak on occasion. I myself have found water inside the bed after heavy rain and when the first snowstorms of the year hit, but I never encountered a problem with getting things wet back there. However, I do recommend using a rubbermaid bin for storing items intended to reside in the bed permanently. Pulling up the rubber mat to wipe up moisture occasionally is also reccomended because I encountered problems with water absorbing into bubbles in the bed's clear coat after years of neglect.
One thing I wish they had done is give the vehicle an actual truck tailgate. Instead, the avalanche uses two "nader pin" closures on the side of the tailgate that tend to develop a mind of their own after the vehicle ages. Basically, you need to slam the tailgate with both hands and pull back on the top lip to ensure that it actually closed. Nothing is quite as irritating as hearing that bang-bang-bang of a loose tailgate that just fell open while driving. The tailgate latch is also made of plastic, which has caused a breakage problem for some users.
The Avalanche is a good vehicle, I love mine. However, it should not be confused with a pickup truck. It does well as a commuter vehicle for people that need to haul boats or the occasional sofa. However, people that need to utilize the bed on a regular basis should consider buying a Silverado or Sierra with a tonneau cover or a camper top to keep their gear dry....read morehide

If you have problems with the gas prices, take heed 30 gallon tanks are expensive but the flex fuel and price of ethanol at 30 cents below the cheapest unleaded you can adjust. Women love this car to ride in it and drive it. It is a guys ride, rough but not as rough as the former avalanches from 2005 and 06, 07 and 08 are better cosmetics but most avalanche owners love their trucks, regardless of cosmetics. The tire sensors are expensive, thats a fact, the service people treat this car well since Onstar checks the car and emails a status every month. I can rate this vehicle as good as a Honda/Acura vehicle, I was a devoted Honda guy and still am, but this truck is beautiful to ride, I know you can't love an automobile but it is so comfortable and smart, everything has a sensor. I hope my next girlfriend treats me as good as this truck does. I drove 9000 miles before my first oil change, 25% is my scare point but dealer recommends 20% or 15%, I am old school so I still think 3000 is oil change time. Oil change every 10,000 miles is the standard. Nice A/C, xm radio, power seats, if you have the LT, LT1 to 3 and LTZ packages, you may get spoiled and not want to leave the vehicle....read morehide
